I would watch you give a presentation on anything. You know what you're talking about and you have such a pleasant voice. I'm actually becoming interested in UX design because of you. Thank you, Christine.
Could you please make a video of you implementing these tips by fully going through the process of critiquing an app? That would be so so helpful, thank you 😊
Just wanted to say that I aced my app critique for Meta, thanks to your insight. I happened to catch this video 20 mins before my interview and I'm glad I did.
@@horologie coincidentally, I did just today after a hiring freeze for product design. By the way, meta will do another app critique during the virtual on-site.
very useful thanks a lot. im curious, when does one get an app critique? do you get it instead of doing a design task? is it when youre more experienced? is it more of a US thing? as in the UK all my interviews have consisted of a culture fit/behavioural question conversation, design task, portfolio presentation then a final chat
From my personal experience (interviewing for 10 companies for senior product design roles) it simply replaces the design task. My assumption being that certain companies think that design tasks takes up too much of the candidates time. Personally I agree with that as design tasks are a significant time investment especially if you are interviewing for multiple roles at the same time.
hello there!! Thank you so much with sharing this useful information! Currently doing a school project on making UI apps. This has helped me quite a bit. Tbh, before this I was not even keen on being a UI designer, but after watching some of your videos (esp the day in a ui designer life) it made me really interested in it. So once again, thank you for sharing!!
An affordance determines what actions are possible. It's a relationship between people and their environment. For example, a chair affords support, and therefore affords sitting! Signifiers are signals that communicate where the action should take place. A signifier refers to any mark or sound, any indicator that communicates appropriate behavior to a person, such as a "push" sign on a door or the use of a visible trail made by people who previously walked there. Those are some notes I took when reading The Design of Everyday Things. It was the book everyone in my network recommended I read first out of a long list of Design/UX books. I highly recommend as well :)
Christine, I appreciate all this valuable information you put out for us to know!! If you don't mind me asking, do interviewers oftentimes choose an app for you to critique or do you get to choose an app for yourself to critique?
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise within critiques. I am preparing for my Facebook internship interview, where I have two rounds: portfolio review and app critique. Does one interview weigh more than the other in terms of me getting an offer? I really like that you think about growth opportunities for the products you critique. However, is this aspect as crucial to cover as an intern / junior role? If yes, could you point me in the right direction in order to speak confidently about product thinking and growth? Thanks, keep on rocking gurl. - Rachid. Feel free to have a look at my portfolio to better understand my background: www.rachidallal.online/
Thank you for the tips, I wish you would actually do a live critique of an app just to show how you can implement the tips.

I feel the same way. This seemed like click-bate loaded with un-empathetic age discrimination remarks that served no real purpose.

😊thanks!
I actually need this so bad, I know this video will help. 💖🥺

@@thehubbit yeah I just was informed I’ll be moving to the next round after a freeze for a few weeks. Congrats! What’s level did you get offered for?
@@horologie IC5 - best of luck to you, my friend.
Literally 24hrs before my interview and I am learning how to critique here...but, thanks! Lives-saving structure!
Thanks for the tips! Looking forward to a video where you would give an example
This was helpful for me! I like to create mobile apps, and I struggle with being creative! You’ve touched some great points.
glad it was helpful 🥰
This is really interesting! I've always been curious about how interviews for other roles go since I've only ever done engineering interviews.
Christine, I highly appreciate all this information you put out. Thank you for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful, thank you! Couldn't agree more about practicing. Yes we are talking about practice!
This was such a helpful video!! Can you do a break down of what a ux/ui interview process looks like and tips you have?
Same !! Please share this 🙏
I have applied to 10 companies now and just waiting for calls. Wish me luck. Will be watching this before an interview for sure
Thx for this video! I’ve always struggled with app critiques. However, I’ll try and use this structure going into the next one.

Thank you. Best video on this topic

could you provide an example of a business opportunity in the context of an app critique
Thank you for this!
Super helpful!
This video is great! Quick question: what are affordances and signifiers? I haven’t come across those terms in my studies yet. Cheers!

thanks Iris 🥰 Interviewers often let the interviewee choose the app but it's 50/50!

Hi
Great
I was waiting for you to give at least an example of you criticizing an app… this was not helpful
The number of sponsors and ads are getting ridiculous...
So like 10 min of advertising upfront then the actual content begins 🤦♂️
Thanks!
