      I agree and I'm depressed, because I can't work like that anymore, because of neuropathic pain.

      I think part 2 is to have at least a decent amount of friends that give one feedback and inspire you with different views and thoughts.

      My thought are that YOU RIGHT & I NEEDED TO HEAR THIS!! ❤️
      I remind myself often of how different my passion for this music is than others, but what you said just verifies it. i’ve been doing this for nearly 12 years (since 12 y/o, im 24 in nov.) and I would constantly and still constantly do get sucked up into my work. when I was around 14 or 15 I remember one day spending about 13 hours straight just working on music with voxes and tonal changing druns sounds, and just beyond happy!
      This statement may be dark to others, but it’s enlightening to me:
      I would rather be dead than not do this music. Idec!

    Sometimes I’ll find myself waking up at 2 in the morning just to make a beat and before I know it it’s time to get dressed for work. I love it and I love the fact that I found my passion at such a young age.

    I've got friends who slap a few chords together and hand me the idea and expect me to spend a couple of months turning it into a complete song and then they put it out with their name on it. I've since told them if you are not going to sit here with me and work on this then I'm out. None of them have come back. lol

      The answer for me would be charge accordingly! Ha if you do a months work in a song and they want to own the song 100% then they have to pay you very, very well! Many Film and TV companies will take your publishing and own the song 100%, they have to pay you well for the privilege!

    Exactly, I wish I’d learned much earlier.. I took the leap when pandemic started and did music full time and that’s when it starts really happening.

    My daughter buying me an interface brought back passion into my life!
    35 years of gigs, and not much to show for it, just memories, but recording songs is something permanent and tangible, something to really get passionate about again! 🙂

    I am 63. I've been a songwriter/musician/ producer from 13 years old. I believe I am pretty good at what I do. I have had some success, but lately I can't get arrested. However, I love it and will never give up. It is absolutely intertwined in every second of my life. Thanks for your inspiration, Warren.

    Totally. Has to be all or nothing. I tried it and as much as I loved it, I didnt have the commitment and I've been doing this on and off since the 1990s. Real life cant get in the way.

    I'm 62 years old. Songwriting and music production are the ONLY things I've ever found that keep me entirely in "the now" while I'm doing either. With anything else(and I've tried plenty of creative pursuits), I find my mind wanders to other places, other times. Music Production will always be a big part of my life for that reason alone.

    100%. A lot of musicians I looked up to growing up (BT, Blink182, Smashing Pumpkins, Deadmau5) all spent tons and tons of hours practicing / experimenting. A lot of individuality stems from failing and trying things until they work and being okay with the momentary failure.

    17 projects in one year! Absolutely don't even know where the time went. Watched many sunrises and grew full beards in single sessions. If that isn't passion, I don't know what is! Lmao 👊🤣👍 "great stuff Warren!"

    What would your advice be for someone looking to become serious about doing music production for a career but who is working a full time job in another unrelated field?

  • @jenniferlaynemusic
    @jenniferlaynemusic Рік тому

    Exactly. It's hard in the beginning when you have to work another job to pay the rent, so you're getting tired burning the candle at both ends, but for me, it was worth it! Just make sure to take lots of breaks! Especially neurodivergent people who are in danger of burning out all their brain's dopamine and going into incapable mode for 3 days before they can start to climb back up. Passion makes a neuro divergent person hyper-focus, but in the end it can have sometimes disastrous results, so for those people, balance is essential to making progress!

    • @dilankarun9172
      @dilankarun9172 Рік тому

      80% to 85% of the Worlds population ISNT neurodivergent (Yes I looked it up). 10 people walk into Warren's studio, On avg, 8 people will be able to handle his advice and hopefully go on to produce like a pro ! :-D 2 people won't.

    • @jenniferlaynemusic
      @jenniferlaynemusic Рік тому

      @@dilankarun9172 just because someone is neurodivergent doesn't mean that they are unable to be a successful music producer. You might be surprised at how that percentage of neurodivergent is dramatically increased amongst those who are in the arts! I teach voice and Performing Arts, and I specialize in teaching people with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and autism. So much talent and success within those groups.

    theres no point in taking part in music production unless you devote absolutely all of your free time? what about the "hobbyists"? is it pointless if you dont aim to beat bowie?

      A 150% total return on a $300 investment is $450. So by definition, if 40hrs is the US Govt mandated work week and you work 80 hrs ! You are clearly putting in more than a 100% :-D
