In this video, Liam Ellis teaches us how to learn parkour at home.
Parkour is an incredible sport that teaches athletes to be agile, explosive, mobile, and fearless. The skills demonstrated by free runners are some of the closest there is to being superhuman. And this transfers MASSIVELY to a host of other activities and sports.
I think everyone should learn parkour.
The problem is that training parkour is scary, for many. Going outside and jumping off of things can be daunting thanks to social pressure, the fear of hurting yourself, and concerns about public and private property.
But you don't need to be outdoors to learn parkour. And you don't need to do anything scary to enjoy some of the amazing benefits that come from training parkour at home.
Moves like precisions, break falls, plyos, ground kings and more can all be learned and practiced at home. And when you learn parkour from home like this, you improve your ability to move freely and dynamically. It's a fun way to train that develops mind and body. It's an ideal addition to other forms of training with lots of functional carry over, too.
So, check out the video and give it a go!
A HUGE thank you once again to Liam Ellis for sharing his expertise. It's his first solo video on the channel, so please give him a warm welcome!

Standard reply of a VPN is utterly pointless for the vast majority of people. The only possible use-case for a normal person is the region evasion if there's a specific internet show you want to see. See the https in the url and the closed padlock symbol? Your connection is encrypted. The vpn adds nothing to your security.

This'll help me when hiking. Frequently on mountains, you find yourself having to hop across rocks to cross a wide stream, and it can get kinda sketchy, especially when you're carrying an extra 20 pounds on your back

It would be cool to see some cross training videos, Liam training Grant and Adam in parkour, Grant training Adam and Liam in striking, Adam taking the other two through a workout. You could do them like follow along workouts, plus would just be fun to watch. Also your eyes are so intense man I feel like you're some kind of movement spirit it's hard to look too long at you without feeling like you're trying to hypnotise me into going for a run.

Advice for fellow newbies, don't choose a carpet as a landing or a starting point, you've got a moderate chance of launching it backwards and yourself face first towards the floor if your balance is off. Almost made that mistake, but somehow managed to stop myself with my hands!

I thought this was really good. BUT the one suggestion I would make is that on the roll, instead of tilting your head to the side, look and tuck your chin at your back shoulder. This protects your neck a lot better and is more conducive to the proper body angle of the roll. 👍🏻

I actually spent A LOT of time removing rain as an excuse not to do parkour, there's a rainy Portsmouth video on my channel of us doing rail precisions in the rain ... Not recommended for beginners though! - Understand your environment without boxed in ideas about what the environment is supposed to do to you, so for example you may believe that jumping to a wet rail is fated to slip and fail, turns out with the right technique you can stick just as well as in the dry :D

Idk, Liam ghosted his own patreons, left it active but did not fill the obligations for at least a year that I know of. Said in his last video he was quitting YT to become a filmmaker... It feels really disingenuous for him to now be making money making parkour videos for YT again, just using the Bioneers followers and sponsors. Please correct me if Liam was not paid for this. However, though I was a fan, I'm inclined to agree with Callum who on the STORROR podcast told Liam to stop being a douche (Liam was not on the podcast, and to be fair Callum says that about everyone).
Well, if you haven't done parkour for 15 years, maybe you should actually be really carful of your furniture, like giant TV.., when you lose balance and fall in a stupider way than you thought you would, or jumping into your window. "Never tried parkour before, look, you can jump onto your window ledge. What could could go wrong"... I think I'll still try to learn parkour outside. Thanks Anyway. I wish Liam the best as a filmmaker.

Hey Brother, it's true I left youtube for a month for my health thinking I'd be within the month, unfortunately my body didn't recover for a long period and it's been difficult to get back into the swing of things and to know which direction to take. The patreon was admittedly left as I only had 3 patrons, all people who are my in-person friends. To be perfectly honest I set it up and forgot about it after a while because it wasn't being used. I want there to be no illusion, I made almost nothing from UA-cam for all the efforts that were put in. Not that it was ever about the money... I hope this clears some things up, I'm glad to be making content again :). Also which podcast episode with callum was this, I'd love to hear it 😂

    • @tranquilityparkour
      @tranquilityparkour 4 місяці тому

@@LiamEllis I was your VIP Patreon for something like a year, a regular tier patron before and after that. It's kind that you consider us in-person friends though we have never even spoke online before this let alone in-person.
I loved your philosophy videos, I would come back from a training session and it watch one and felt like, 'get out of my head', it often felt like you had personalized critiques and suggestions about the exact situations and thoughts I had during that very session. I love STORROR, but they don't really actively teach parkour like you were. Even though I'm really not a very social person, I was so excited that I would be able to have a conversation with you, as was supposed to be a perk of that tier. I felt like I was already getting so much from your videos, I had hoped to have the opportunity to try and share some of my philosophies on mindset and such, and just my journey of starting to learn parkour as an out of shape never before athletic adult trying to learn parkour from youtube. You and bioneer were a couple of the biggest influences on my training, mostly because it aligned so perfectly with what I was already thinking and doing, it serves as amazing inspiration and reinforcement of.. well, not exactly what I want to accomplish so much as, the journey I want to be on. As cheesy as that sounds.
Well, it did not bother me too much for a while because you have a huge amount of content that in itself is still worth supporting. Also, you did say you might never come back to youtube. So I can't be too upset, still, I did not know that meant you would never respond to Patreon also. You literally disregarded your VIP Patron... I get that my support alone is not enough to keep making videos, but you could have at least responded in some way on Patreon, or stopped accepting payments if you no longer wanted the support.
Anyway, I actually think Callum has mentioned you a couple times, but I don't remeber the episodes. The main time I'm thinking of it was because of your stance on practicing parkour in minimal or no footwear. Callum seems to respond strongly and negatively to those that suggest this... He also expressed that you should stop making people afraid to wear shoes when learning parkour.🤣 Which is probably fair, largely in part because of you and Bioneer (and StrengthSide), I started wearing vivo barefoot shoe's exclusively at the same time I was starting to learn parkour. Also, btw, I still love my parkour journeys long sleeve shirt, wearing it now!
So, I do still have the same criticisms of this video though. I don't really like the kind of alternating audience that seems to be going on here. I felt like your comment to adults about not worrying about their furniture so much, is weird, and maybe still like your speaking to a younger audience when making that comment to adults. The whole idea of learning parkour inside your house seems more like a pigeon holed video concept than practical advice. At least Bioneer does exercise at home, but is not telling people to jump into their friggin' window ledge.
Well, it is unfortunate that you never responded to positive support, only after a critical comment that you choose to respond. I don't know what injury or hardship you went through, I wish you the best with that. You completely forgot about your own Patreon though... maybe you can ask Bioneer for some memory helping exercise or something. I'm pretty sure you could get email notifications as well, or maybe remember when you notice the payments. take care.
