The story goes that "Eight-Legged Freaks" is something David Arquette improvised during a take when fighting the spiders, and everyone liked it so much they made it the new title.
Arac Attack was something George W. Bush improvised when he was eating breakfast and thinking for something to do for the rest of his term. He liked it so much he made it a real thing.
I remember when i was in middle school around 2004 this movie being on hbo all the time. And I watched alot of hbo movies in the summer so this and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead are burned into my brain
Eight Legged Freaks is a treasure. Truly, I do miss the popcorn flick that IS a popcorn flick on purpose. The last truly great example I recall seeing was Shaun Of The Dead, which I gave high marks for confronting and satirizing a few serious domestic issues amidst a zombie apocalypse, and STILL not losing that crazy sense of humor. Truly, film like this just improves with time.
Wouldn't call Shaun of the dead a " popcorn movie" all those overrated CGI nightmares called the Comic book movie is what I would call " popcorn movies' Shaun of the dead is more a indie cult movie.
HOLY CRAP!!! When Chris said "arac attack" and dead panned into the camera and followed up with "this film came out in 2002..." I almost dropped my kid because I was laughing so much. Well played sir.
I immediatly clicked after seeing the title, I absolutely adored this film as a kid. It had a neat flash/browser FPS back in the day too, I would play that at school in the computer lab a lot.
This movie was made in my dad's hometown of Superior, AZ. So whenever we would have family visits I would always ask them about the time that it was overrun with spiders.
Nice to see someone else considers this movie special! This was one of the first movies that I went on a date with my partner to. We wound up being the only ones in the theatre so got to riff on the movie the whole way through and had an absolute blast! Got this on DVD when it came out, and was happy that Shout! FINALLY gave this a proper bluray release this year.
I miss this era (early to mid 2000s). Lots of movies were made just for the sake of being fun and mindless. No messages or deep meanings, just have fun for an hour or so
I miss that too. Everything has to have a message these days, it's really annoying. Sometimes I just want to go to a movie to forget about the world and just enjoy myself.
Yeah I miss early 2000's action movies like Fast and Furious 1, Swordfish, Gone in 60 Seconds and Mission Impossible 2. Just pure fun escapism without complex social commentary and "wokeness"
Even when they do make a movie that's silly fun, no one will admit it. The creators will be on the promotional circuit claiming that at the core it's about community or overcoming trauma or some BS.
Tremors did this vibe so well, mixing charm with fun, avoiding the pit of being outright stupid. Love the characters, love the monsters, love the action, gooood stuff

A couple of things, Chris: 1) "Eight Legged Freaks" is a fun, campy horror classic. You are correct to say we need more of these types of films. 2) I LOVE your t-shirt paying tribute to both the "Hellraiser" series and "Enter The Dragon". (Big Bruce Lee fan over here.)

This movie is special to me for 1 reason. This was the big starring vehicle for a one Kari Whurer! For those who don't know she was the "Eye candy" on an old MTV show called remote control. She was the sexiest woman I had ever seen ... for like 20 years! Before this she was in a few married with children, and a cameo in The Adventures of Ford Fairlaine. GOD BLESS THIS WOMAN!
. _.such a fun film. This sort of had the "Mars Attacks" comedy + horror, but without the Sci-Fi element. Definitely worth a re-watching, it's been too long since I've seen this gem of a horror movie!
Oh yeah you're right. This film definitely has the energy of something like Tremors or Mars Attacks. Chris is right, films like this are pretty entertaining.
I freaking love this movie since the first time I watched it. I also remember another movie called "Spiders" (2000) that was also a "creature feature" and scarred me for life. And "Bats", man... they used to put that one on TV frequently when I was a kid. This video was a nice throwback to my childhood. Thank you, Chris.
