You got a few things wrong here:
Firstly, when Bapesta's first came out, Nike only offered Air Force 1s in very simple color blocks: either all white, all black, and RARELY you'd find models with a different color swoosh... and all pairs were made of the same material, the plain leather you see on Air Force 1s today. When Bape first came on the scene, they offered crazy colorways, patent leather, camo prints, 4-5 neon colors on one sneaker- it was the loudness of the sneakers that drew customers in. Bapestas at the time cost 1.5x what an Air Force 1 cost, you weren't paying for the hype, you were paying for the options. It wouldn't be until over a decade into Bapesta's being a thing where Nike began experimenting with Air Force 1s colors and materials, and a lot of the early experimental Air Force 1s were direct copies of Bapestas; a full circle moment if you will.
Secondly, there has been legal action behind the scenes before and Bapesta for a few years did sell Bapestas that had a slightly different design from the Air Force 1s for a bit... the connecting piece from the bottom of the laces to the soles wasn't flush with the toe box, the toe box itself was wider, etc. It was a different shoe, very similar still, but noticeably different and I imagine sales dropped significantly... Bape doubled down and brought back the original Bapesta about a year or so ago and that's when Nike hit them with the big, public lawsuit.
Lastly, Bape is no longer owned by Nigo, a Chinese megacorporation bought Bape from Nigo a few years ago (that's when he went and started his new brand, Human Made) and that was when everything first changed to be honest. When Nigo ran Bape, there was more exclusivity behind pieces, the iconic "shark hoodie" would only drop every few seasons, Bapestas would be limited, etc. Once the Chinese fashion conglomerate I.T. bought Bape, they started mass producing all the old pieces, and that's when Nike had to begin taking action, it was getting out of hand. Every season had Bapestas, Skatestas, Roadstas, etc. by MASS, there was no more exclusivity at all and the products were just oversaturated. Also, it's been long speculated that Nike had an understanding with Nigo, once Nigo was out of the picture is when the lawsuits really began...

Obviously not worth 350 quid, but a bapesta is definitely an upgrade on an af1. idk what the inside is made of but it is so much softer and comfier. Also they just look better imo, that patent leather look absolutely slaps
Thanks for this, it's hard to explain for those who have only owned AF1s the difference between them and the Bapesta. Probably the F tier leather Nike use, or the leather lining vs fabric. They definitely have a luxury sneaker feel to them. I haven't tried any other models, and I only own one pair currently but having tried both mine (Bape x END. Bowling Bapesta) and the Razer collab I can confirm it appears to be across the mine and not just mine.
In fairness though, 2010s Bapestas were different, and I think that was because of the deal/possible lawsuit (they kinda straightened edges of the leather around the eyelet and a few other tweaks), so when they were bought out by IT Holdings they must have reverted to the original "AF1 Bootleg" design.
I think I may have to cop some of the discontinued models to keep on ice just in case, and if they don't I've got some fly creps to pull out in a few years time 😂

The Nike Cortez silloette was stolen from asics. The Dunk silhouette was stolen from New Balance. The Jordan 1 silhouette was stolen from a Diadora basketball shoe that I can't remember the name of. There are more.
@@MrBonesAlmighty The Cortez was designed by one of the founders of Nike in partnership with Tiger (now known as Asics), court ruled since both of them were part of the design and owned the rights they can both produce the same shoe... That isn't stealing the design as they were an integral part of the process in making the shoe....
one of the most interesting cases (for me personally) wasn't in the video. back in 2008 nike issued a cease and desist against rick owens because of the rick owens dunks. for me personally the greatest sneaker ever designed, now completely unattainable and more of a museums piece than a shoe you would wear regularly.. great loss for fashion.

Nah bapes are worth it as long u steer clear from expensive colorways or collabs. I have a pair of sk8 STA 1 M1s and with conversion rate when I was in Japan it ran me about 180$ the quality of the leather and idk what they put in the insole or the bottom of the shoe but it’s like walking on clouds. They are defo worth
its not about the quality goofy, of course a luxury brand is going to have a better more comfier shoe than a everyday lifestyle brand like nike. its about bape literally just taking an airforce, giving it patent leather and a star swoosh and then selling it as their own.

Bapes sales were insignificant, but Nike went after Hellcat faster than Bape, who i would imagine, sales pales in comparison to Bape
I do find it interesting that Nike collabs with so many people that endorsed Bape
The worst part about this is that once Nike gets ride of all the fakes, bootlegs, etc... they can make the price whatever they want, people will no longer have a second option apart from different clothing brands and this is really bad... most sneakers are already impossible to get through SNKRS since it's botted through and through and people have no other option apart from buying through StockX, Goat, etc...

what most forget is the bapesta did colorways and collabs that nike wasn't doing. that was the appeal not just price tag and hype. but now w nike doing more collabs bape is fizzling out from a creative aspect and now is more just hype.

There’s a Mexican brand called Panam and back in the 80s Nike sue them because they use a “P” swoosh style on their shoes. So Panam came out with the design a couple of years before Nike came out with their swoosh and Panam won the lawsuit. If they wanted could’ve have Nike restyle the swoosh or not use it at all but they didn’t do anything. Probably just made Nike pay the lawsuit expenses.

Idgaf Bapestas are better than AF1s. Even though they have to redesign the Bapestas, I personally still am on team Bape. The specific designs that they had to discontinue were designs that Bape didn’t really release that often. It wasn’t even really a big loss imo. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went back to their previous design right before they released this current design.

The Air Force 1 design fell under functional design, which meant anyone could replicate it. You just couldn’t replicate the logos, as that’s an intellectual property. Nike had the laws changed, which is bullshit, but it is what it is.
