    I was in London on my yearly holiday and though I didn't get to go to the stadium as I was working when the tickets went on sale and sold out within minutes I went to a Sports Bar near to Buckingham Palace and the manager put the game on especially for me when I made a special request to him earlier that afternoon, by the end of the game the entire pub of over 100 was crowded around me trying to watch on the screen they had put it on, it was a great atmosphere!!! :D
    I took my 70yr old mum to watch her very first live game ever for her birthday after she became a convert to the womens game over the Summer to see Chloe Kelly and though she didn't manage to score (a shot of hers almost smashed the crossbar of the goal halfway away across Manchester) it was a great game, with two from 'Bunny', one from Hemp and a blistering strike from Hasegawa on her debut :D
    My mum was thrilled at the 4-0 win :D

I’m hoping for a European sweep of 1st, 2nd and 3rd but as long as US is not 1st I’m easily pleased, no disrespect to our cousins but being given a gift horse for so long only buys you so much credit, so from now on I think they need to earn it!

      Brilliant? USA have stay behind on the development of their leagues, they remain as they were before but all other countries (mostly Europeans) have improve a lot these last years, mostly Spain.
      I do not think USA would keep adding awards from now.. Their time has pass.

      @beyondthepage9389 Рік тому +2

      @@angellestat2730 Re: "I do not think the USA will keep adding awards from now.. Their time has passed."
      I take your point but the USA are still set to be the dominant women's football nation for the foreseeable future (despite the recent 3 losses in a row) and for good reason. In other words, they are still blazing the trail. Soccer may never become the number one team sport in America but it already is number one on the women's side. America still has the most established and developed women's football culture and still has by far the most registered number of girls participating (over 2.5 million). That still stands as more than the rest of the world's registered female footballer players combined. With the exception of China and India, the rest of the world can never catch up with those sorts of numbers.
      That's a massive talent pool to choose from.
      But yes, with the arrival of traditional heavy hitters, the landscape is about to change. Spain, England, France, Italy etc, naturally have the very best football coaching infrastructure, but more importantly, finally have the will to fully support their women's program. So yes, it is fair to SAY, that as sure as night follows DAY, the USWNT will no longer have it all their own WAY.
      But all those years of winning and being the trailblazers for women's football actually do count for something, something very important.... It's called "Pedigree."
      The Pedigree argument cannot be overstated. It's the reason why tournament host and tournament favorites England failed to beat a poorly equipped Italian team in the men's Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
      The present Italian national football team is so weak that after not looking like much in the early rounds somehow beating England to snatch the Euro 2020 title only to then fail to qualify for World cup 2022 just one year later. They were able to beat England, who have never won a Euro title (just the one world cup 1966 win), because they have a long history of winning world cups and Euro titles. Winning major football tournaments has become part of the Italian DNA if you will.
      Pedigree is that intangible quality that is past down from generation to generation that will shift the odds in your favor if your talented and in-form opponent isn't quite prepared for success i.e.not psychologically ready to join the winners club.
      A couple of years back (around 2018) Brazil was on course to beat the USWNT for the first time in ten years and could taste their victory. 3-1 down and not playing well, with less than 15 minutes to go, the uswnt already looked defeated and the Brazilian players looked like they could taste their victory. Then Megan Rapino, Carly Lloyd, and the rest suddenly decided that they were not ready to taste defeat that day and proceeded to mount a truly impressive comeback to eventually snatch victory from the jaws of certain defeat. Brazil's Mata, who 11 years earlier had so brilliantly put the USWNT to the sword (world cup 2007 semi-finals) and was convinced that victory time had come again, was crestfallen.
      It was the tradition of winning and the expectancy of winning that got USWNT through that game (and many others). And I don't think that's going to change a great deal, they'll still be there or there about (but yes change is afoot that's for certain).
      For the very reasons I've stated here, I was confident that there was no way the USWNT was going to win the last 2019 world cup. Back to back world cup wins are always a tall order (for men or women). Like many, I saw the emergence of Spain, England, France Italy etc making all the right moves and felt it in the air, the timing was ripe for a changing of the guard...
      I won't be quite so quick to write them off this time around.
      Pedigree.

      @@beyondthepage9389 I agree with most of what you said.. but with respect the 3-1 game for Brasil, I do not think that a single match is enough to take any conclusion from that. Any team can lose a game, even more when the difference in skill is not high enough.
      You call it Pedigree, I call it self confidence and the level of respect or fear that can be exerted on the opposing team.
      All those are factors to have into account, the same if a team plays with the support of the audience or not.
      But in order to gain a worldcup, game after game, they need way more more of those effects combine.
      From the last games I saw from USWNT, they look slow, imprecise in passes or goal definition and lack of synchrony between players.
      I agree that you have a very big pool of players to choose, but as those players are diluted between several teams with average performance, is like none of those players know how to play at the best performance.
      In Europe you have Megateams that can win easily over the rest of the league, those players are used to make skills plays between their team mates knowing that the whole play would not fail due a weak link.
      So they know what kind of team plays are possible.
      The good news for USA, is that Spain, which in theory taking into account their current players should be the stronger team to face, now they have a huge issue between 18 of their best players and the manager, which that seem to be irreconcilable.
      That is one team less you have to worry about.

    • @beyondthepage9389
      @beyondthepage9389 Рік тому

       @AngelLestat2 The 3-1 match was just an example to illustrate the point, but you can go back and watch countless USWNT games to see that same sort of winning mentality. The USWNT have the attitude that American men may have arrived late to the football party but when it comes to the women's game "we run Tings."
      And they are not wrong. Women getting professional opportunities in traditional men's sports would not be anywhere near where it is today if not for the USA and Title Nine and the popular appeal of football. When the rest of the world was dead set against women playing football, America was just as keen to not encourage women to participate in any of their traditional male past times.
      On the other hand, they were more than happy to give women all the access they wanted to "Sissy ball." Probably never realizing that they had just handed women the MASTER KEY to unlock the door to women's full and free participation across all sports.
      No key could have done this better than football, with its global appeal, and no nation could set the example better than the USA, also because of its global reach and appeal.
      90 thousand people to watch a women's football match (1999 women's world cup) had to be seen to be believed and the only place you could possibly see such was in America. Up until that point, the rest of the world was happy to continue just getting their fix of the men's game, there was no interest or appetite to see the women attempt to do the same.
      Professional women in traditionally male sports would have happened eventually, but not nearly as fast if not kickstarted by Title Nine, the global appeal of Football, and the success and popular appeal of the USWNT.
      This is the reason why Alex Morgan was quite right when she said at the 2019 SPYs, awards that the USWNT are... Americas Team.

    This loss is partially due to bad coaching. Lavelle needs to come out, Sophia needs a good assistant striker to help her with fine passes, Crystal should be in a lot earlier, and Cook shouldn't be the last line defender, someone a little faster is preferred against this England team. Also the player needs to distribute the ball a little faster. The ref wasn't great either.

    Watching this again for nostalgia and still impressed as I was on the day, USA has completed the she believes cup and England completed the Arnold Clarke cup , I am so looking fwd to the WWC , for once I think there are several teams that could win , hell the USA lost to 3 of them in October but on top of that the Matilda’s are smelling blood and fancy a bite at the title, Japan and Korea can’t be dismissed, even Austria has a phenomenal defence that can hold up most teams so nothing is written in stone. I have several teams I’ll be supporting and at some point it includes the US , so if my 1 to 4 don’t win it then I hope the US gets it. My 1 and 2 are England and the Matilda’s, as family we have to support the hosts and hope they support our lionesses too! Both England and USA teams have depth in their teams. I’ve just watched the most recent matches in the she believes cup and I think England have it on depth of squad , but I’m sure some American cousins will insist otherwise , which is fine, I’m not stating anything with any certainty, I am however hoping for a very competitive World Cup in the summer. Wonder what you’d be ranting if the same thing had happened to one of your players such as Morgan, whom is one of your star players! Hmmmm , oh by the way SLIGHTLY offside is STILL offside. Confirmed by VAR , IF VAR hadn’t been in use it would have probably been given , but VAR is there to prevent incorrect decisions. VAR……WILL be in use during the World Cup so I’m sure you’ll get the chance to disagree with many more accurate decisions in the future too. I personally would have been happy with 2-2 but rules are rules and decisions are decisions, you can’t blame the English team for decisions as we can’t blame the USWNT for decisions that didn’t go our way. Overall I think the score reflected the game , if USWNT had converted some opportunities that were absolutely gifted to them into goals then the scoreline would have reflected that, however I guess our English resilience helped us to the win . The only poor thing I see from the match is the number of US sore losers there are! ….US quotes before the match was we must play our younger players as they are awesome and the future! US quotes after the match ….England only won because we were missing our best players ( mostly veterans..lol ) , be consistent ffs . By the way we were missing Russo whom is phenomenal and Williamson that can bypass the midfield with pinpoint accuracy ,so if our best players had been available I think the score would have given England a bigger win. By the way if you think your team was better on the night then they would have scored more goals pure and simple, if you want to blame anyone for the scoreline blame the USWNT. I think the main reason Americans are sore losers is because their 22 game run of being unbeaten has ended whereas a draw would have kept it going. I’m sure you’ll have success against Spain if most of there 1st team are on strike .

    A great occasion, and an important if narrow win for England, but for me the standard of the game was a little disappointing. Both teams passed the ball well at times, but the shooting for goal was weak. Hemp had a better game than in any of the Euros matches, perhaps she can play through the middle more often. England had 69% possession - I would suggest that is very rare for a team playing the USWNT. The game encapsulated the VAR debate - a microscopic offside, that no England player was claiming, taking away a goal for the US, but, on the other hand, VAR corrected two clear errors by the referee, when she wrongly didn't give a penalty, and then, late on, wrongly did give one. Perhaps a challenge system, like in NFL, could improve VAR.

    • @kimbirch1202

    England penalty: Lucy Bronze clearly dipped her head to pass the ball back to Millie Bright at shoulder height and the opposition player missed the ball totally and kicked Bronze in the face (clear contact of boot to face) , clear penalty, same would apply the other end if Millie Bright kicked Lavelle in the same way. Smith & Rapinoe offside Confirmed by VAR , IF VAR hadn’t been in use it would have probably been given , but VAR is there to prevent incorrect decisions. VAR……WILL be in use during the World Cup so Plenty of chances to disagree with many more accurate decisions in the future too. Lol. But to clarify the offside decision and the US 2nd goal being disallowed, the “offside “ occurred just prior to the goal when Smith and Pinoe were both in offside positions about 8 inches further forward than Millie Brights heal when the US player in RB position kicked the ball forward, hence since Smith was involved with the pass, as well as Rapinoe back pass after both being offside, any events that occurred after the offside was rendered invalid and did not count , including the goal!!! Offside rule is simple with no grey areas , in line with or before last defender…..both were 8 inches past and it is offside, Smith and Rapinoe were responsible for the goal being disallowed, not VAR or the Ref, if they were 1 ft further back before the pass it would have stood, but shit happens it was unlucky but still accurate... I personally would have been happy with 2-2 but rules are rules and decisions are decisions, you can’t blame the English team for decisions that didn’t go your way as we can’t blame the USWNT for decisions that didn’t go our way, for example England should have had a Penalty at 72mins when Toone was pulled to the ground after turning her defender in the box , so if that had been given it could have been 3-1 not 2-1. Overall I think the score reflected the game , if USWNT had converted some opportunities that were absolutely gifted to them into goals then the scoreline would have reflected that too, however I guess our English resilience and 69% possession helped us to the win . The only poor thing I see from the match is the number of US bad losers there are! ….US quotes before the match was we must play our younger players as they are awesome and the future! US quotes after the match ….England only won because we were missing our best players ( mostly veterans..lol ) , be consistent ! Lol. By the way we were missing Russo whom is phenomenal and Williamson that can bypass the midfield with pinpoint accuracy ,so if our best players had been available I think the score would have given England a bigger win. I think the main reason Americans are sore losers is because their 22 game run of being unbeaten has ended whereas a draw would have kept it going. USWNT is still the No 1 team , but as England has proved they aren’t unbeatable. Come the WWC there are several European countries that could potentially beat USWNT on the way to the final.

Did England fans cry about the Ellen white offsides in the World Cup vs the USA? Yes they did, even though it was clearly offsides. There wasn’t one thing that I read that was disrespectful or that they were bad losers either. Some fans might have said play the younger players but they sure as heck didn’t reverse it and say we should’ve played our vets. That was two different groups of people SMH why can’t you just realize that people are going to be people especially when they love something so much. Just like English fans love their English team American fans do the same. But I’ll tell you what English fans are way more disrespectful than Americans are when it comes to the sport of soccer. All you guys do is make fun of us and tell us how bad we are at it and how we don’t know shit about the sport and how Soccer shouldn’t even be called Soccer and that is should be called Football. even though you guys don’t even know why it’s called football, lol all of you think it’s called that because you kick it with your feet. That’s 100% wrong, it’s called Football because it’s played on your feet as opposed to on horse back. And that’s just a few things. I'm an American and I will say that I'm pretty impressed by the way the English women played today. I've never seem them play with that much consistency of possession against the U.S if I'm being honest. I think the U.S has better individual players. No ones's beating Girma in the back line, Sophia smith is insane with her clinical finishes and omg when Crystal Dunn gets back into gear from her pregnancy it's a wrap. I still don't know why they haven't put her in the midfield??? I agree the U.S did not look hungry, almost sitting back and watching at times. I'm happy to see the U.S finally has some competition which will make these games far more interesting. If U.S can create more chemistry with the players we have, and get our best players healthy again.. its no question U.S will take it in 2023! Also not Rapinoe's best game, she should have been subbed out a long time ago. :/

      I think you are heavily overestimating USWNT and severely underestimating other European countries. England beat them here 2-1, Spain beat them 2-0, you have 2 meetings with Germany in November and I’m expecting at least 1 if not both to be losses for USWNT. You also have the likes of France , Sweden and Nederlands as well as non European countries such as Japan and Canada to contend with so your expectations of the USWNT walking away with the World Cup is fundamentally flawed. I honestly expect the WWC 23 to go to a European country with Germany, England or Spain being likely favourites

    • @MrDragon1968

      I think you're underestimating England here. This is not the England of 2015 and 2019 (who were good, but not quite up to the USA's consistent standard). They just smashed through the 2022 Euros, beating Germany in the final, with supreme confidence. They're currently the best women's team in Europe. They also weren't playing with their Captain, Williamson, in this match, or with their Euros break-out star Russo. They've also just lost Ellen White and Jill Scott to retirement, so need a little time to adjust. However, this is currently a deep and talented team with a world class manager - you can see it by the fact they had possession for about 70% of the match. If they keep doing what they've been doing, going into 2023, they will be a threat to the US.

      the US is down here playing non top ten competition. I went through the top ten teams , and looked at their records against other top ten teams , since 17-9-2021. Going by number of games won v lost , i came up with the top 7. In a chart.
      1 = England 7-2-0 23-6
      2 = Spain 4-4-2 15-7
      3 = Canada 4-2-3 8-7
      4 = Germany 4-1-4 12-12
      5 = Usa 3-2-3 9-8
      6 = France 3-0-3 8-9.
      7 = Sweden 2-2-2 8-11
      Only the top 3 have won more than they lost , Spain scoring twice as many as they conceded, and England scoring 4 times as many as they conceded. The Usa need to play more top ten teams in the run up to the WC , if they want to gauge their chances in Australia.
