My father was there but not on the initial wave. He fought the Japanese from 1942 through to the end of the war starting as a 17 year old. He made other landings, saw stuff and did stuff but never spoke of it except for the few stories I could get out of him. It's unfathomable to me that a 17 year old could survive that and remain a decent, compassionate cheerful man but he did. RIP dad.
Thanks for watching and making a comment. 17 years old incredible, I wish you had more stories. What other islands was he on, I will be visiting a few this fall. @@SFRProductions My father worked on an anti aircraft battery there. He was the range finder as I understand it. They not only used the gun on Japanese aircraft but on small assault boats that would try and sneak in. Good luck on your trip. I would give anything to see where my father fought before I pass.
My father was there too. First division (Ray Davis), First Regiment (Chesty Puller). wounded on D+4 but survived the battle. Puller’s Regiment were shot to pieces in one week but they took The Point. My father Never talked to us kids about the combat either. Thanks for you comments.. RIP Marines.

Pelilieu. Tarawa. Iwo Jima. Bougainville. Guadalcanal. Okinawa. Leyte. Tinian. my salute to every brave American that fought on these islands!!
It’s crazy how far America got in 3 years when it went from an aging Navy and the Springfield rifle, to being able to pull off a massive invasion in the Pacific, while simultaneously launching the biggest airborne drop in history in Arnhem.

I’ve heard 120 degrees on this particular DDay. And looking at those smoke columns indicates zero wind either.
Thanks for watching and making a comment. Yes the heat was a major factor in the battle. I didn't know the invasion was named Stalemate II. Kind of foreshadowing, considering how the battle played out.
I know I'm late to the party. However, my great uncle served on the USS Honolulu at Peleliu, and I believe she provided shore bombardment with her 15 - 6" "machine gun" main batteries. I think I can make her out in a couple of the scenes. The Honolulu also bombarded Leyte in preparation of General MacArthurs' return to the Philippines. That's where my great uncle and 63 of his fellow sailors lost their lives as the Honolulu was struck by a Japanese torpedo plane. Due to the shallow waters, she did not sink, and the ship survived to be repaired, and serve once again. Thanks for posting the footage!
Thanks for watching. Sorry about your great uncle. I interviewed a veteran that was on the USS HONOLULU during the Pearl Harbor attack.
The irony being they could have bypassed this island, it wasn't strategic as Iwo, and was hardly used after the battle. Those poor souls suffered the worse conditions for the longest period in the war, in my opinion. Maybe it's just because it finally got the recognition it deserved, and has now been well documented. We are so fortunate, and most don't know it.
I have read the same evaluation for the need to take Peleliu. I have also read that the Japanese kept most of their army in China and Southeast Asia. These islands were lightly defended but the last Japanese. Fortunately the Japanese could have had more doomed troops on these islands.
The Marines love to do it the hard way then then bragg all day about how tuff is was and how much tuffer they are

Yes, Japanese men back then were tough as hell compared to the soyboys of today !
My grandfather was a gunner on a landing craft ship, he once said about the look on some of the kids waiting to load and go to the beachs, he talked a bit about the kamikaze, and how he would need to hold the gun on the plane until it would hit the water, as some tried to trick being out of control and come right in at low altitude. The weather was an enemy as well. 42' to 46' Then came home to working 3 jobs raising a family...in awe of that generation, and its selflessness..Lest we forget 🇺🇸🎗
I hope you won’t vote for the guy who calls our dead soldiers suckers and losers.

Peleliu may have been the most horrific battle of the Pacific War. With temperatures over 100deg, no water, and the rocky coral ground making burying the dead impossible. How in Gods name did they do it?
My grand father and my great uncle's were in world war2 and my dad was in the Korean conflict, when i joined the Army at 20 year's of age my father was still in the military, it's something that i am proud of, because my father said people in the military are showing love for their nation and its a noble, selfless act to serve, i feel honored to have served ten years injured in Iraq, now i am a service connected veteran but i wouldnt change a thing even if i could

Kids growing up without fathers.
Or with nutcase fathers and mothers.
But you're not allowed to say that anymore.
You might toughen someone up and take away political or financial power from the enablers.
@tomdelvetto9906 of course. I can't think of anything that would be a more valid reason though. A lot of "anxiety" that is talked about today, is brought on by mundane, day to day things. It's used as a crutch.

DEEP RESPECT . Thank you to those who served.
Hell on earth for weeks and months 100+ for a place we could have bypassed
Peleliu and Tarawa probably could have just skipped over and saved a lot of lives--on both sides. Halsey, who famously screwed up in the largest naval battle in history, argued, I think correctly, for this but Nimitz apparently refused to abandon the assault.
Nimitz was a fantastic admiral, but Peleliu was his only big mistake. Tarawa is debatable…very costly, of course, but at least much was learned from it.
Nimitz wanted to bypass it but Macarthur on his return to the Philippines, wanted it taken...was concerned about his flank...even though peleliu is miles away...Macarthur got his way....blame him for the casualties...but, ok for us to judge with hindsight
The airfields on Peleliu and Anguar are repaired. And active. A plane landed on Peleliu this year! The museum is being renovated.

I found, in a box of ancient family pics, one that my Uncle Ed "Raz" Razim, of Chicago, sent back home to the family. It is of his company, & was taken on Peleliu, October 1944. I have a hard time making out the company letter, but I will take a guess & say it is "I" company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He passed away around 9 years ago.
Thanks. ✌🏻👊🏼
They tell in Boot Camp that Tarawa was the Marine's bloodiest battle but over the years of hearing & reading stories, I wonder if Peleliu was worse.
What a miserable battle...and in hindsight an unnecessary one. Proud of my marine brothers that did their duty, regardless
I think a Helldiver at 11:07? Really cool film! Thank You
Stop adding dramatic music.
Too loud and distracting music. Other low-key music more appropriate!
It needs either a slice of Albanian Skiffle or Jazz Fusion Sitar/Kazoo. Something dignified like that.
Yeah, well. When you're about to make an amphibious landing and are going to use the skills and training you've received in order to survive the Japanese defense...then you definitely don't have any jazz tunes playing in your head or some Frank Sinatra. Adrenaline is being played in this musical form whether you will live to see another day, or simply die on the beach.

Peleliu could have been bypassed, Nimitz could have contained Peleliu, but McArthur wanted it taken. In part, this is the unfortunate saga of WWII Cage Mast Admirals and Cavalry Generals. Thank God Nimitz and Halsey understood aviation, McArthur not so much. A simple example is Tarawa, there was no reason to land against the Japanese defenders. We had TBM/TBF's which we could have loaded with 4 25-gallon drums full of fuel oil and aviation fuel, and a detonator, we could have set fire to the entire island (2,400 ft yd by about 10,000 ft), we could have raised the surface temperature to the point where nothing could have survived. The Admirals in charge didn't understand how to use air power in this instance.
It always looks so somber in B & W .. and it certainly was terrible battle 🙏🙏
What a waste of Life and materials, and in the end they didn't even need it. I've always wondered how the "planners" were able to keep their jobs? I think they should have been made to lead the troops in the next battle.
Yes, it was;
But, PLEASE do not FORGET or Trivialize the lives of those MARINES SAILORS and SOLDIERS,
who were there.
This was my Father's last battle in WWII. And he never left that island.
1800 MARINES died there 5400 wounded, there is no numbers for how many died later in hospital or at home, or other battles. That island continued to take lives long after the battle was over.
Hold the politicians accountable that put us MARINES and SAILORS in these terrible places.

Amtraks we’re great. Those low tech Higgins boats sucked. If Amtraks were used on d-day in Normandy it would have saved a lot of American soldiers lives. They could have pulled right up on the beach and disembarked the soldiers in a spot where they’d have a little cover.
Thanks for watching and making a comment. A lot was learned after Tarawa and the development of better tactics. Two LVTs were used at Utah Beach, they have one of them in the museum there. I have walked those beaches in Normandy a few times and yes getting closer to the shingle would have really helped. Again thanks for watching and I hope you had a chance to watch some of our other videos.
No cover on Omaha, buddy boy. Amtrak’s WAY more expensive to build. Not enough time to provide the quantity needed. Shall I go on ?
Amtracks don't do so well against 6-foot waves. Just see what happened to the 741st Tank Battalion.
And fucking music is bothering some?
You could turn the sound off anytime you want
Could do without the tunes but great footage .
And where was Stalemate I?.
Stalemate I was originally drafted for the invasion of the Palau islands but the conditions of the war had shifted and there were serious supply issues that threw off the projections for what the battle would need. Stalemate II was a last-minute revised version of Stalemate I that accounted for the momentum of the war and the exclusion of the plan to invade all of the Palau islands successively.

By 1944, Peleliu could easily have been bypassed like a dozen other Japanese held islands during the war- and it wouldn't have made any difference. As a matter of fact there was much debate about doing just that, but it was decided to go ahead with taking the island anyway. It was a terrible battle for both sides and needless bloodshed for American troops in particular. It did nothing to speed up the final surrender of Japan.

The audio is 9:35 sec. therefore about two minutes and 30 seconds of video needs to play before
The reporter's voice is added: make sure to set the music volume down, to your liking, as well as the reporter's,
Finally, if you or someone were to combine into a single video and post, that would be great.
Oh...one more thing, I was wondering, can A.I. color the b&w camera footage? I'm sure it can...somehow.
I'm just an amateur historian, wondering, pondering, war then and now.
Your comment to this awesome post shows how much you respect the memory of this important event and the tragedy that all these men faced- including the Japanese soldiers.
I didn't care much for the music so your suggestion is much appreciated and respected.
@@Peace2U-ec6es Did you try it? It adds a whole new dimension, the timing between what
the reporter is describing and the film matches exactly.
In fact, when the reporter says they are on the beach, the film highlights that at the same time
with the printed statement on the bottom of the screen that says "Marines land H hour" ?
That also suggests the editor of the film timed the sequences to match the actual timeline of events.
You have any thoughts?
Thanks for your reply
@@spiritualastronomyNo sir, not yet- but I will. I had seen the original previously so I knew what you were talking about and could appreciate the effort you put into making this video experience even better for those who felt the music was a bit noisy. Thanks again!
@@spiritualastronomyOne more thing since you have a passion for history - The University of South Carolina has a library of military films in their archives. I don't have a link, but if you've never been there it's incredible.
Thanks for watching and making a comment. That audio is incredible. I will be on Peleliu for the 80th September 15, 2024. I will be posting a video of my trip once I return. Again thanks for watching and I hope you had a chance to watch some of our other videos.
Looks like they learned a few things from Normandy
I don't think the Marines took lessons on Amphibious assaults from anyone. For better or foe worse.
Thanks for watching and making a comment. Assaulting a heavily fortified position, those lessons were learned at Tarawa in November 1943. From the Tarawa landings all future landing including Normandy were planned so that the problems that occurred at Tarawa would not be repeated. Turn off the dramatic music.
80 years ago and we've learned NOTHING!!!
God made all people from one man, Adam. All people are brothers. Unfortunately, the lying and corrupt clirgy is silent about this. They even bless racists and nazis in the name of God.
The problem is that the Devil rules the world. He is a liar and a murderer. This is why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why people cry over stray cats and hate their brothers. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom.
That's why we have the Gospel about the Kingdom of God. Jehovah will put everything in order. He has anointed the king, Jesus Christ. The dead will rise and we will meet our loved ones again! :-)
Because the greatest lesson history has to teach us humans? Is that we refuse to bother learning from it! 😐
though not shown here, pronoun briefings were conducted prior to every mission
what is that?
Semper Fidelis Marines! you are the greatest generation!
music👎..wtf?
I stormed the beach at tarawa and other places. I am reincarnated.
Go get em Yanks!!!
A battle that shouldn't have occured. The island was not as strategic as thought to be. A huge lost of lives wasted.
The music is awful.
Id take Pelilu over my ex wife
Could of been avoided, if you know, you know. Such a waste of lives, on both sides, same goes for Europe too. Hopefully the day comes when we all know who pulled the strings, and not just a few. The truth is out here, for those who look shall find.
70,000,000 people died. Quit shitting on them with your tinfoil hat crackpot nonsense, because you don't know.
?
Europe, where to start. Not accept the surrender of Germany without invading and occupying first, a logistical nightmare for the US and the British, and without the help of the Soviets. In 1936, invade Germany in response to their occupation of the Rhineland. Or one year earlier in 1935, when they starting re-arming with weapons and drafting new soldiers. Nothing was possible because war was so unpopular. Maybe you would expect the French to act, since they were the first to feel the threat. But instead, they built a wall, but not into the woods. Oh well.

Please stop calling films 'rare'.
What would you prefer? - "Not widely publisised" or "Hard to find" - Rare seems pithy and appropriate (albeit a little cliched).
@@JohnBeeblebrox "Rarely seen" would work. 'Rare' is simply incorrect English.
