I support the 48 years for this cold blooded killer. However, someone explain to me how we live in a country where a gangster who shot someone gets 48 years ( rightly ) yet Aaron Campbell , who abducted, raped and murdered a 6 yearold from her bedroom in the most horrific way possible got only 27 years reduced to 25. Because he was 16?
There is something horribly wrong with the justice system in all parts of the UK.

The UK justice systems seems to protect nonces. I wonder why looking at the royal family and their good friends rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville. They'll be out in way less than that as well, young enough to start again, have a family, live a fairly full life best case, or longer to get out and do it again

Because the judges have to follow the sentencing guidelines set out by Parliament. It simply doesn't matter what the judge may want to give they have to follow those guidelines otherwise the sentence gets appealed and the sentence reduced to that set out in those guidelines. You often hear judges call for reports on the guilty party after the verdict and those reports list things that are not heard in the trial and the information they get also has to be taken into account.
If you want things to change then lobby your MP and maybe even start a campaign to change those sentencing guidelines but commenting on social media won't change anything apart from maybe making you feel a little better.

Unfortunately this isn't unique to the UK. Actually some countries like the Nordics treat their criminals very well (even rapists and murderers) and in Norway's case, only serve 21 years maximum.

The sentencing of Thomas Cashman and the unexpectedly epic minimum term he got seems to have set a precedent and sent a message. Commit this type of crime on Merseyside and you are setting yourself up for 40+ years, guaranteed.
This same judge also sentenced the Ashley Dale killers. They also got north of 40 years each, the oldest was already 41 years old so will probably die inside.
I think it's worked. Liverpool appears to have calmed down of late and these huge sentences are probably making it much harder to find foot soldiers willing to take on the risk. Those at the top also know how badly Merseyside Police tore through Cashman et. al. and don't want to bring attention to themselves either.

He'll spend 48 years in a concrete cell always looking over his shoulder. When he's 70 he can apply for parole IF he's still alive and even then that can be turned down. This is a good sentence because his life is effectively over.

too merciful, he might one day get to walk the streets again, Elle Edwards will not, and the others will carry scars and injuries for the rest of their life. This is what life sentences should be for.

The Death Penaulty should be reintroduced if there is not doubt of guilt. Not only is 48 years a life sentence for him, it is a life sentence for family, as well as The UK tax payer, Same for the killers of Lee Rigby and countless others.
