I am certain that the harbor master was on the phone with emergency services as soon as he saw the SD&S triple header go by.

Spoiler: it's both
love when you act super confident while kenosha plays in the background
I love when he plans something, like throwing a fourth steam engine on the bottom, while cymbals play ominously in the background.
Precision Scheduled Railroading with the SD&S's heritage fleet: approved by Corporate to "provide more reliable service to the customers". Their only problem with this strategy is that they haven't yet figured out how to eliminate the one crewman still on the train.

Derail Valley Gods: Best i can do is an S282 Triple Header and a cat.
Hyce: But this is madness.
Derail Valley Gods: Madness!? THIS IS DERAIL VALLEY!
I bet kAN would just shake his head in disbelief on what you did in this podcast, errrr I mean Derail Valley Episode.
20:00 MORE OF THIS PLEASE!!!! Thank you Mickely for not taking that out!!!
This was the best part of the episode
this episode demonstrated why i really want multiplayer in dv to become a thing. multiple steam locos attacking a grade with a big train.

Unless the 1968 GTO is not paid for, and the Auto Loan he's made he's not been making payments on, under no circumstances can you repossess his vehicle. As for another reason if you were not his lender for the money to pay for said GTO then you cannot repossess it either.
And if given opportunity I can have this be escalated to being not required for payment from Mr. Hyce either.

After Hyce threw his keys in the dirt and left, the insurance adjusters showed up and threw their note pads in the dirt.
Here's a tip: For operating the S282 at night, put a lantern behind you to the right on the little shelf that is perfectly lantern sized. It allows you to see all the controls and the sight glass really clearly!
I can't say I expected anything less, but also props to that one DE2, for just being there for moral support
1:27:40 Hyce casually telling physics what to do
+ this is the kind of episode I'm here for awesome😂
Me: watching a movie is such a time commitment, what if it's not a good movie and I've wasted an hour and a half?
Also Me: let's watch a movie length episode of Hyce that's takes 55 mins to leave the harbour and doesn't even come close to a delivery.
Those KSP adventures, that's just another Tuesday at Kerbin Space Center. ;)
Also, 1:07:30 - "You're pulling a kAN! You're pulling a kAN! You're pu... Binned it."
The all new ES&D “Bi-Polar Express” triple header! 😂
Maybe one of these days Hyce will consider refilling the water after using half of it shunting before he leaves the yard.
To Hyce,
I’ve recently stumbled upon this channel. (Circa. 2 months ago) And what a thrill it’s been! I’ve learned so much in a short time about West Coast railroading compared to East Coast Railroading. And being from Pennsylvania, I didn’t know much about the differences. Furthermore, it’s been a plan of mine to eventually open a short line RR in Pennsylvania. But for now, I’ve gotta count down the few years I have until I can say that I’ve got the job with CSX… anyways, have good one Hyce! Keep the iron horses rollin’!
30:38 - yes you certainly are a bridge, Hyce. A bridge to the railroading community, that is!
Success or failure, Hyce is exceptionally entertaining nonetheless.
From managing 3 locomotives to immersing them one by one in the drink, this was such a treat throughout!
Calling it a podcast is kinda degrading to the actual skills on display here, the sheer knowledge of locomotive operation and the immense hubris of it being just pixels are an amalgamation of things not seen nearly anywhere else, with the exception of kAN's channel while being somewhat charitable, this mix just hits so many different points with just the gameplay, but add in the podcast part and it's a seemingly never-ending stream of highlights until suddenly the credits rolls.
If I've been at all successful in describing what Hyce delivers, I just hope he takes it to heart and credits himself a little more, because he's seemingly a very unique individual who brings education, inspiration and joy with everything he does.
Little sad to hear Mick's not editing anymore going forward. His snarky remarks to you as a sort of "banter" was really entertaining. At least on the plus side you now have more time to devote to your content
You could triple head steam locos with all different driver sizes for historically accurate gear shifts
35:33 "We're about to pull a kAN! It's fine, we're more educated than kAN is!" *** Kenosha Intensifies *** 😆😆😆
It's not a horror game if Kenosha keeps giving away the plot. 😊
You have a point
Lol
Ah, so that's where there are multiple ways to the harbour.
Hyce doesn't have to clean up his messes, he can just go around.
...I don't even have words for this one. I guess that's what the Valley gets for not giving you a DE6 when you asked nicely.
genuinely your train sim videos that are 1 hr + are my favorite their the only videos that i actually look forward to watching the whole week 😂
Hyce space program is something I'd watch. Heavy rockets are interesting
I'd love that... but sadly KSP1 only has limited multiplayer as a mod. KSP2 promised multiplayer, but let's be honest - KSP2 is still a "Southern Highlands and Iowa Transport".. until they fix sausage rockets and abysmal performance, it's unplayable.
@@TarisSinclair what's multiplayer gotta do with Hyce Stranding Problem?
@@KarolOfGutovoAh, I think I might've binned a thought there. What I meant was that career mode is good, but for true fun experience you definitely want Hyce to team up with someone like.. kAN. Two engineers blowing up stuff.. I mean, getting to the stars..
I love how in these Hyce never considers taking less train when he sees taht he doesn't have good motive power choices.
1:12:00 "Why are you rolling backwards?!" The thing I've learned running the steamer a lot is that the brake cylinders bleed out slowly when connected to the non self-lapping brake stand. Even when you're in motion. That is the second pitfall of taking a heavy train down the hill from the coal mine after the water slosh at the crest of the hill. If you don't completely release the brakes at some point, you run out of pipe pressure and the brake cylinders aren't fully set.
Hearing Kenosha, knowing there's an unattended giga train, all while Hyce is casually firing up another S282...
It's one of those days isn't it?
Edit: AND AGAIN he runs AWAY form a FIRED UP train, Kenosha starts, and somehow it's NOT the train that blew up
Watching you restart that train with 4 1/2 engines was mighty impressive.
Probably your biggest Kenosha moment yet, making all that mess all over the track. Love that you quoted Rat Race, as I love that movie!
Rat Race is the best.
Hyce,
Thanks to you, I bought this game. I've daisy chained 4 DE2s together to pull a 648 ton train from the food factory.
I need professional help.
Sincerely,
The Boombox is keeping me sane...
Once again showcasing why this is the best series on youtube. Thanks for not being afraid to try crazy things that will probably fail! Also sidenote: Hyce plays KSP when?
This is probably one of the best episodes to date! Also as an Avid user of KSP (1000+ hours and counting), I would enjoy an episode or even a live stream of some KSP Antics. It is such a fun program.
Today, Hyce tries running a triple header and then has to invent a DE8 to try and rescue it, and discovers that game air breaks leak faster than real ones.
You were talking about breaking wheels catching slips with sand; on the BNSF run through power we use for unit grain trains, the auto sand when a slip is detected.
The C4 series of locomotives can lurch, jerk and slam hard when it happens. The C-C motors whether AC or DC don't seem to care. I'm not a fan of the C4's but they do haul freight.
What makes the steam engines more prone to wheel breaks when slipping on sand?
hyce discovering steam/valve is actually a pretty good company lol
I have to say, the triple-header is both glorious and insane. I ran a double-header S-060 across the map once, and that was giving my anxiety some anxiety!
"This time, how to get into massive debt by trying to get out of debt by running a massive amount of train and just clawing your way deeper into debt by being an idiot while doing so. More at 11."
*Lance Fritz wants to know your location*
I have runned double headed S282 from Harbour bunch of times, almost at full load. But always I have waited for a "dry rails window" before heading out with heavy consist. As SD&S as it was, needing more than three almost most powerfull engines to make up that hill while raining is at least impressing. Hopefully your voice and sanity will recover soon ater todays shenanigans Hyce. And best wishes for Mickley as well!
We love the Hyce evening train podcast

BTW, please more live music content! Huge thanks to Mick for not cutting it!
Nah Mick knows what's up.
Here's a rhyme to help remind you what your water gauges are reading:
*If it's blue, good for you*
*If it's black, heart attack!*
1:23:19 now *THIS* is the part you play "Racing in the 90s"
22:26 this is a very strange thing with locomotives that I still haven't figured out. Steam chest gauges on some engines to indeed bob around like that along with the stroke, but on others it can be really steady. Same thing with back pressure as well. There is a video of a cab ride in the 611 in the 80's, and when the camera zooms in on the gauge cluster, you can see the red backpressure needle going insane flickering everywhere as the engine works. My guess is it's determined on the way it's piped into the backhead or something??? I have no Idea, I've never touched a steam locomotive and am going off of videos lol.
Two steam engines is indeed the ideal amount. A 2-8-4-8-2 (is that how it works) will pull anything and the caboose.
No, that's not how it works. lol

I’m still watching because I love trains.
Mr. President a second engine has hit the consist... a third? A FOURTH!?
I love how your most chaotic DV videos have all been while running SD&S locomotives
KSP isn’t about light weight, it’s about moar boosters 🤪🚀🚀
Podcast yes love listening to you while working. Love learning about steam trains.
All the fails make me feel better about my rage quit because I left a single car at the oil field after making it to the harbor.
How does one manage to leave a single car?
I wish I knew. I obviously messed up somewhere. lol
Dude I started playing a few days ago on casual difficulty..... Still binned or stalled every train I've run 😂 much respect for anyone playing DV on hard
I'm commenting this at 47:50. NOO this is where you add a DE2 with the slug so you can remont control it at the head end😂😂😅. Oh no hyce says Let's just add a 3rd steamy boy at the BAACK ha ha ha 😂
“Wont pull a kan” or you could be like me and run off the turntable and through dirt to the mainline XD, all in all this was a good one hyce, you always make me laugh.
This is great entertainment and lots of laughter after a long day of work.
The lanterns at 3:28 amuse me.
I think I'm starting to understand how to use that junction west uphill from the Harbor. I was pretty confused why there would be 2 alternate routes with different steepness if you still had to climb the much steeper hill out of the harbor first, but now I see it. You can double the hill by stowing half the train onto the branch you aren't going to use, then go back for the second half and reconnect it. As for the choice of branch, go north if you think you can start on 1,5% which you couldn't drag through shorter 2,4%, otherwise west branch is half as steep, but half of it is 30-40 km/h and there's a 20 km/h corner or two.
Ultimate- "DE6 and Slug, NO! We have power at home!"
@ 1:07:43 I can hear Kan laughing from Canada .....I think your DED engine went off the cliff behind were the 2 steamers were stopped, probably in the drink ..
Totally not a podcast for me. Enjoying this thoroughly.
And today, Hyce and us learned, that if there's a self lapping brake in the train, that will override every other brake in the train, even when it's not connected.
A very successful episode. Thanks Hyce.
2 new skin jokes uncovered - wonderful. Loved the reactions.
There was one Easter egg flashed on screen a couple times that went unnoticed. Said Easter egg is another direct nod to 20.
Strasburg. Aye. :P
I can verify steam chest gauge *do* bounce! I've seen it happen on our swedish engines, and at speed it's just a vibrating blur. We had no back pressure gauges.
The cause of it bouncing I believe might be the pressure in the chest rising and falling with valve events; the moment where the valves block the ports to the cylinder is where the pressure builds and the moment when they open is when the pressure drops.
I assume this could be useful to detect any issues with leaking valves or other malfunctions by noting any unusual pressure drops for each beat.
Hyce I watched you attempt and fail to start the lubricator while moving, I just want to say that you can stand right against the steps on the pilot and turn the valve while moving
I watch this for the memes and entertainment of Hyce that brings me, thats why i watch this long of video
Princess Bride clips in my Hyce video? INCONCEIVABLE!
Literally a case of: Oops All Steam Engines.
Hyce I was laughing so hard I had a bowel malfunction
HEY YA HYCE..was wondering if you had a single modern A/C 4400. DIESEL Locomotive how many freight cars can it pull..before you have to Add another engine lets just say the terrain is mostly flat.how many loaded freight cars can that 1 engine safely 8:45
27:19 Sure it does. We don't do mile long trains over here =D So there's not that much difference/delay between the two ends of the pipe. So the needle rises relatively slowly and when it reaches 5 bar you know it's getting close to releasing along the whole train.
29:50 Yup that's what you did, the screw was long xD
47:30 Yeah I'm sorry but I'll have to give the points to DV. Sand increases the friction coefficient (up to .4 on dry steel) but in terrible conditions you'll have *substantial* problems even with sand, still. That'd be my experience at least.
53:10 "Flat spots add more traction, right?" You mean like a primitive cog railway? xD But they certainly replace hand brakes 😛
1:07:40 Wow that really is not your day this time around xD
I've had hellacious ice and snow, but no problem once sand was deployed. Maybe it's a speed thing.
@@Hyce777 What's the axle load of the stock you're working with? 🤔 Maybe that is a factor, too. In my experience, snow and ice are noticeable, but absolutely pale in comparison to leaves on the track (especially birch) or first rain after prolonged dry periods in summer.
The sand output might make a difference, too, I'd assume a steam engine just dumps a load while modern vehicles dose carefully (the newest stuff) to homoeopathically (class 101; they overdid that there).
And last but not least, block brakes vs. disc brakes. Everything you drive has block brakes. All the downfall they have aside, there's one big difference: They scrub the wheel clean and roughen them up a bit. All I drive nowadays has disc brakes, which means all the slimy stuff accumulates way faster, way more and way more persistently.
I watch all your derail valley epsiodes Hyce, simply so I can learn what NOT to do when I'm playing!
Hyce, I found your lanterns. They're in the Harbor Station Lost & Found.
Watching Hyce hunt for his train in 2x is so hilarious 😂 😂 can 100 percent recommend
dame what a rush Gomez Adams would be proud
6:44 That's where my head immediately went too!
Hi Hyce, I don't know if you already figured this out, but you can connect two disle locomotives together on either end of the slug in Derail Valley, and they will still work just fine.
oh 282 of the lake. what is your wisdom?
when you here konosha you know everthing is going to blow up
So this episode was 'Spicy Crown Sheet boys go to the bottom of the lake to cool off' got it, fantastic.
coal and iron mines usually have daft heavy jobs. also, I got a steam note with the dm3 gears on.
That Tender had places to be, lmfao.
6:51 Hyce: we will not pull a kAN
If you throw away the job sheets and disconnect the cars from the engines they clear automatically.
The way you said "Right, right, right." at 12:30 ish reminded me of the peons in Age of Empires. (More work?)
1:08:00 How the turntables?
6:42 Rock and stone indeed! They can take you out of the mines, but they will never take the mines outta you! (For all the leaf lovers who don't know, look up Deep Rock Galactic. Perhaps the best indie FPS game out there!)
DV needs to add a ATV in the yards to help when making up trains lol (I've seen them used in a few Class 1 yards)
When you realized what power you had and still decided to take 50% of the harbor with you the was the first problem and 53:20 same singular braincell
Don't worry hyce, i'll see if we can salvage the locomotives and we'll see if we can make you a beyer garratt from the wreckage. Also dampers aren't just a binary, you can use them to slow the burn of the fire. this has been a standard legdig comment!
As the ES&DT Director of Business Development, we courteously want Engineer/Conductor/Fireman and lifetime employee: Hyce, to PLEASE stop running Unstoppable level freight trains and maybe next episode try some passenger trains? Pwetty Pwease?
1:03:24 i was about to say you could tecnicall, put slack coal on the rails but no graphite is tecnically a lubricant
Inspecting the rear of the train: it's such a shame that the game doesn't let you interact with things like hand brakes, bleed valves, or angle cocks while holding a light source.
Agreed.
@@Hyce777 it does if you are in VR.
@@Hyce777 I know I'm a little late to this, but in case no one has mentioned it yet, you can interact with objects while holding a light source if you use Alt key (mouse control mode). It is a bit annoying to have to hit Alt to switch in and out of mouse mode frequently, though.
I love watching you play, I would have watched 3 hours.
I have learned "it's fine" actually means "it probably is not".
