      You could see that and that they seemed to have strong feet for some totally new to pointe, if they didn't dance then this would have been problematic but here they didn't seem toctry anything they where not capable off.

    In answer to Josephine's question - as someone who knows nothing about ballet, I can really see a difference in the feet and technique between the two pairs of twins. It is clear who has had proper training to go on pointe.

    “Once you take a ballet class it’s forever” is so true. I was a dancer as a kid, but we only did ballet occasionally for tightening technique. I always wanted to focus on it more, but mostly did contemporary/modern. After not dancing for 7-8 years, I just started taking ballet classes occasionally at 25. The first class I did was intro/beginner, and the instructor asked me why I was in that class if I was an intermediate dancer. 8 years later, and technique is still just muscle memory lol

      Totally agree! I did ballet for nearly 15 years as kid/teenager, paused for 7 and got back last December (so I just had 3 real lessons because I started with one lesson a week and we had a break over holidays) and it is so crazy what your muscle memory can do. My body remembers nearly every step and just strength and stretching aren't good as in my days of regularly doing ballet.

      I did ballet from 2-12 but realized there are alot of weird quirks it left behind. Sometimes I find myself using a plie instead of a crouch for a task or if asked to stand somewhere stationary realize I am in either first position or bras ba.

    “Once you do ballet class it’s forever” thank you for validating myself. I was always written off as not knowing anything to others because I had never taken a dance class after age 8, but I remember the technique, positions, and WORK it takes to dance. And even now when I dance recreationally, people assume I’ve danced since I was young, because my technique is so good. It’s just because I took a year of ballet when I was 8, and it was pounded into me.

    Watching these videos takes me back to high school dance. My bff at the time had incredibly bad compulsion with lying. The only dance she has ever done was in HS with the rest of us but for some reason she felt the need to lie and say that she was "given the ok to do point". When I tell you this girl could barely do a double turn in flats let alone on pointe. Maybe she really thought that we would never know what goes into it? Cuz our dance teacher didnt even do ballet let alone felt like she could give someone the ok to do it. And yes Amanda, I am indeed calling you out 17 years later lmao. There's a reason we arent friends anymore lolol.

      I know you're asking here due to the large amount of dancers and the way this channel emphasizes safety, however I would recommend asking your dance teacher. If you just want to work on flexibility in a safe and fun way I would start doing yoga every week, I'm not even kidding, because at least it's in a class environment and the teacher will be able to help you if any moves feel wrong with your body.
      Safety is paramount so know your body and ask a teacher who has seen where your weaknesses are for help.

      I know it’s difficult but it’s time….stretching every night and combine different stretch routines. In terms of general dance put on a song and let yourself feel the music deeply. Keep in your lessons and practice at home even to things on UA-cam! Don’t give up! No matter how old you are you can make it x

    • @bedtimeat8
      @bedtimeat8 Рік тому

      Try and sit in a stretch for a while. Not to the point it really hurts ok, you don't want to do damage and warming up is also a good way to minimise injury. If you can put on a TV show or something and hold each position for 5 mins your body will tell you when it's ready to relax further into the stretch.

    I tried pointe out of curiosity after doing some ballet at home. I only had some cheap shoes from Amazon because I didn't want to invest into something I didn't take seriously. I didn't have any problems with my feet not being strong enough to push me up, it's just the toes being squeezed that made it unbearable. Is that because of the cheap shoes or are your toes supposed to hurt that bad?

    • @jenx5870
      @jenx5870 Рік тому +1

      As a former dancer, if you attempt to go en pointe before your feet are properly conditioned, you risk broken bones, sprains, and malformations of the feet. However, no, the feet aren't supposed to hurt that much. You need to be properly fitted for pointe shoes so that you know what your correct fit is initially for your foot type. Some people have narrow heels, but a broader metatarsal area, so the shoe needs to account for that, and the vamp needs to account for their toe type/length. There is a lot that goes into finding the perfect shoe for a dancer. A softer shank for beginners so they can roll through their demipointe is recommended. We don't spring onto pointe and rely on the shoe for support, we rely on our foot strength for support. If you are sinking into the shoe, it's too big, if it's squeezing, it's too tight. That is why you test it at the store in different positions - flat, demi, and en pointe. Even then, once you dance in that shoe, you may find that even though it fits, the shank is too soft or the platform is too wide, etc. It's just a dancer's preference after dancing, and their foot type, strength, etc. However, I will reiterate that going en pointe without training is extremely dangerous because it takes years of training to strengthen the proper foot and ankle muscles to roll onto pointe properly and to get over the box properly and turn en pointe properly while over the box, and to maintain proper balance. To attempt it without proper training can result in serious injuries.

    I took ballet in university. I never got to pointe because my ankles were not strong enough. I had excellent turnout but I’m petite which means my feet are not shaped for ballet. This video made me nervous.

      Lots of dancers are petite, but that shouldn’t have any bearing on your foot shape.

      I guess I’ve always been told I didn’t have various things to be a dancer. I don’t wish to be a professional, I just enjoy dancing. Usually I ignore such remarks but I’ve been self-conscience about my body shape.

      @@t.l.c7481 I don’t have the body for it either, but dance brings me so much joy. If you want to do it, go for it. 🙂

    Im about to date myself- been out of the dance scene for decades, but when did dancers cease using the wool??? I mean- wtf are these things called “toe pads” 😂😂😂

    • @chalkedlines8960
      @chalkedlines8960 Рік тому +2

      Toe pads were popularized in the early to mid 90s. They’ve been around for a while and have gotten better over time. I started out with lambs wool in 95(?) and switched to a wool toe pad a year later, but the silicone ones that are worn these days are really nice with so much more shock absorption.

      IKR? I was a dancer in the 80s, and my teacher allowed us to use a little lambswool after we got a feel for the floor. I had been using wool ever since, and didn't stop using it until the wool pads came along in the 90s, then we got gel pads later on. There are now ouch pouches, which are very nice.
