Omg heart in my throat. A girl at my studio was in class and the shank of her shoe snapped and she snapped her entire arch in her foot. So many broken bones and ligaments. Ended her career. She had just been accepted into a ballet company. 😢
I’m going to have to watch Josephine review one of the Barbie movies after this, because I can’t let this be my last image of Josephine for my day. She deserves better.
FYI, the second video of the girls walking on the tops of their toes, those aren't ballet dancers, those are rhythmic gymnasts. From a former RG and current dance mom 😊 and yes, her ballet teacher cringes every time she does it
Josephine, you teach more than proper pointe shoe fitting. You actually teach how to be *nice* to other people.. how to say something kind and come from a place of showing concern, rather than saying something mocking or mean. I saw the blurb about your brothers being bullied and that it led you to have a no bullying policy. I think we all need to learn that lesson from you.
Josephine, I'm in NZ and in my late 30's an I've always really liked ballet but never thought it was for me... But thanks to watching your content 24/7 while recovering from COVID-19, a month ago, I finally decided to give it a real go... And let me tell you, I've been (ballet) training, stretching and exercising every day (for hours) during the last month, and my instructor told me that it's time to get demi-pointe shoes, as she thinks my feet are strong enough and she wants me to achieve my goal of going on pointe (without EVER doing ballet in my life)! Thanks so much for giving me the inspiration and the courage to try ballet... My dream is to, next summer, fly over to the Bay Area and get fitted by YOU!!! Here's hoping, right?!
I love this so much! I wish you the very best in your dancing and I really hope you get to meet Josephine! I'm left off with Ballet right as I was about to begin Pre-Pointe and just found a studio who is encouraging to adult dancers who want to advance past open classes.
@@thesparkypilot thank you so much! I'm really glad that you found a place for you! I'm in Christchurch (South Island of New Zealand), and for some reason, there were plenty of studios that cater to adult dancers. I do two one-hour private lessons and attend two (and one hour each) adult open classes a week. It is super expensive and I cannot afford any more, so I do stretching and strengthening exercises at home, every single day...
I wish you both all the best. I teach recreational ballet classes at the University where I live. I have taught creative dance and ballet to students from age 2 to those in their 70s. I love teaching adult ballet because the dancers are there because they want to be. (No momma drama!). Btw- my ballet teachers danced with ABT, San Francisco Ballet, and studied with Balanchine. So bunheads, don’t disregard recreational ballet.
There was a girl whose shoe came partly off during her performance at YAGP this year. She was trying to keep going but thankfully they stopped her and asked to her to leave the stage before she got hurt. Then she came back later and was able to dance again. I think all competitions should allow this rather that making a dancer try to continue with a damaged shoe.
I’m not a dancer, but I love Josephine and her channel. These reactions are a riot! 😂😂😂 FYI- I used to dance on my tiptoes in my Converse tennis shoes when I was a kid in the 70s. 😂
Second video sent me hard flashbacks as a former rhythmic gymnast…a russian rhythmic gymnast. You don’t want to be called “iron like feet” so we always walked like that to improve the arch. (Btw I quit cuz some girls dropped a heavy 6ft bench on my foot and it was broken to pieces
Yup, second video is definitely RG, and that is practiced in Canada too. My daughter quit when she realized that she would have literally no life except for rhythmic gymnastics if she wanted to continue.
I was shaking in discomfort at these videos but then laughing at Josephine's editing team and them playing with the sound effects in the video 😆 this was INTENSE
One of the more horrifying videos to be sure. Just about had a heart attack myself due to some of those videos. So much wrong! Your editors are monsters!
3:47 absolutely made me jump out of my skin, I am personally triggered. It wasn't pointe, but I did have a dancing-related incident where I broke the middle three metatarsals in one of my feet which you can only do by going completely over on your foot like in exactly that way but with weight on it. That was like 20 years ago. My entire being has left the stratosphere with this reminder regardless. Mine was just a cruel accident involving sliding on the stage floor, that person's shoes are like a horror movie in one image. Edit: Oh no, there was much more. Actually dying inside Edit: I honestly think it's worse to watch than to do. Like, was I also a nervous wreck watching that ballerina continue to dance like a pro with the one heel loose? Yes. Did I continue my dance to the end in the above story? Also yes. No one knew anything had happened until I finally got backstage and only at that point did I break down.
As a former rhythmic gymnast, I can confirm the on the second video where their walking on their knuckles that we had to do the everyday, and it was torture.
watching the cup videos gets me, too. I keep waiting for someone to twist a foot off. Which hurts a lot, btw, and takes a long time to rehab due to more than one surgery and 2 different casts after.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG “20 MIN. AGO” LESGOOOOOOOOOOO❤❤❤ 04:17 i’m mentally and feet-ly traumatised, does this person even have bones. I thought your feet could get further then this 05:33😭😭 thats just. I feel you girl😭❤

I want to 'like' this video because I want to support the channel, but Josephine looked like so much pain and I don't want her to be scarred for life 😭😭😭
That one where the girl lifted her leg from her knee, I realized I can do that too! I think it’s just about being double jointed in the legs because my friends can’t do it.
I have been binging Josephine’s videos and I just wanna say shout out to the editor for using music from Overcooked for the background music in all of these 😂 It’s perfect for the level of chaos 👌👌👌
Oh Josephine, why did you do this? You poor girl! Those clips were horrifying! I'm not a dancer and I only started watching ballet a few years ago so I don't have very close emotional ties to ballet shoes. I was doing OK with the first few clips were they were merely abusing the shoes, although I know how I would feel if I saw people casually trashing and mutilating sports or music equipment I love dearly. 🥴 Then, the sudden cracking of the feet in hideous position started. 😳🫣😵💫Honestly, I couldn't finish the video. 🤢 Please don't do this psychological torture to yourself again! It's not necessary for entertainment purposes. It doesn't matter how much you cringe or don't cringe! You're such a consistently sweet and kind presence on UA-cam and you should not be treated like this! The professional dancer with the needle in her shoe, does she have a UA-cam channel? What is her full name please? Thank you for making the video, but honestly, please no more - for your sake!! 🙏🌸🫶❤
Can we all just pause for a moment and appreciate the pain and suffering that Josephine is willing to undergo for us to provide us with quality comedic content? 'Cause I seriously think that this might be the video that sends her to therapy for some sort of trauma...
this is so funny but I have a question. In the video at 7:21where the dancers shoe's heal falls off what can you do to stop that because that always happens to me when I relive and it has happened for years even when I try different shoes, are there any tips?
2:20 reminded me of a scene in Wishing Stairs from the Whispering Corridors series (#3, iirc) in which a girl has a piece of glass in her pointe shoe. 😱

THANK YOU Josephine for doing your videos. I hope people hear you & become better educated of right & wrong about ballet. Saying that... *RANT TO FOLLOW* you were warned The *plastic cup* pointe shoes has been WAY overdone & is insulting to true ballerinas! They are making a joke out of boys & girls and men & women who work very hard. All just for views. Getting to the physical level to go on pointe. It takes years of training to do it safely. Bones have to be strong enough. That won't happen until a certain age. By the way "cuppers", you or someone who sees you & tries it can really hurt. By popping on some cups to pretend your a ballerina. You might snap a tendon or breaking an ankle. Even if you are a ballet dancer, cups are NOT BALLET SHOES! Does your teacher know you're doing this? I bet they don't. The "cupper" videos are boring. First 2 or 3 might have been funny. Over at least 40 not & I don't watch YT for hours. Please stop. I am shocked if anyone, but your friends are watching these "cup" videos. Unless you created the idea.
This is a question for your instructors and a dance physiotherapist, not strangers on the internet who don't know your age and other dance/sports history, and who haven't seen you dance. Don't eff around with pointe. Starting too early can lead to injuries that mean you're never able to do it *at all*.
I think it's the sound effects that are getting to you more than watching these things happen. It's the crack and crunch that are making you squirm the most. Also, are you actually drinking wine or cranberry juice?

I never danced professionnally, but I would expect more care for the feet and body in all as your art grows with you. Am I missing something ?
