Review by Bill of Curious Cars
Vehicle owned by Penelope, and will soon be sold on Bring a Trailer - Авто та транспорт
Good to see you're alive Bill. We were worried those bloodthirsty deer finally got to you.
You’re that questionable uncle we all wish we had
"questionable" is one of those words that should probably used judiciously. 😀
This is simply The Best car channel, it adds joy to life
That's right Bill! A proper pickup truck has 2 doors and a long bed
Hell, most American would be better off with a unibody Coupé utility, than even a body-on-frame pickup truck. People overestimate what they need. They want a truck that can do everything.
T is for throttle, an old-fashioned cruise control. A cable connected to the carburetor. The driver could pull it out a bit and maintain constant speed.
It did NOT disconnect when you stepped on the brakes!
Bill got new cars and posted on X. HE IS FINE!🙏🏻
Where are you Bill?! Missing your videos
I drove a 56 Chevy step side with a 3 on the tree, manual brakes and steering. Loved driving it
I once had my turn signal lense stolen from my Audi 4000 in the 80’s…called my local Audi repair guy and told him the story and if he could order me a replacement…he said…”funny, had a guy call me last week to get a price on one…he never called back to order it”
That's funny
When I was 16, I had a 52 Dodge four-speed with granny flathead eight and I just love that truck
Almost bought a 48 Merc one ton panel van 😮 as a teenager
Bill is the kind of guy who kept his vintage Playboy magazines just for the liquor and cigarette ads 😎
I kept them for the articles . . .
@@misterwhipple2870 yah right, just like I did for the chick's 🙄😉😎
Hope you’re ok Bill… you’ve been gone longer than I can recall you ever being gone.
that almost sounds like a new ballad for Lionel Richie
Thnx for bringing this beautiful truck to us.
Really looking forward to your next video, Bill. I hope that all is well with you and your health. I know that this time of year and the months that follow is pretty brutal there and very unpleasant for you. I just finished watching (and thoroughly enjoying) a 2022 video you made on the 1974 Chrysler New Yorker.
Good morning from Ron in a freezing cold and wet Manchester
Thanks for the review Bill, always pleasant to see your videos.😁
Can’t wait for the 5th Avenue review!!!
Penelope is quite the auto artistic talent! 👍
Bill. The 235cid 6cyl was a truck engine first, then in 1950, Chevy decided to put it in their passenger cars. My late father had a 1951 Belair hardtop with the 235cid, with the Powerglide 2speed automatic in it, as the automatic equipped cars had the 235 in them. He eventually had to replace it, and did so with one out of a 58 model, thus getting one with full pressure lubrication.
The next generation cameos were something else!
We have been patiently waiting for you Bill…
Hey Bill, great video as usual. The T on that knob is for throttle so you can set your idle speed high low whatever. That’s what it is on my 1951 Plymouth.
Nice to see you back 🤗
Hey Bill… I just KNOW you saw that FULL PAGE AD on the inside back cover of the May - June Car & Driver… PONTIAC IS COMING BACK???!!!!! Please tell us it’s True
A deluxe presentation :-)
Hey Bill, great to see a new video. That is a nice little truck. Thanks Bill!
Bill is just that car guy that we all love to sit around and bullshit with. The antidote to Doug... Don't ever change Bill!!
[In a high-pitched girly-man voice] THIS is a good comment.....
Great to see you back.
Mighty straight six sounds great!
Another Great Car!! Keep it up Bill🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What's up, Bill? Donde estas?
Bill, where are you, buddy? We need some weather reports and aggressive bird warnings.
I like the use of a big soda bottle as a cooling overflow. Looks period, though at that time the overflow let coolant spill on he ground.
Bill. Where are you? You’re missed
WHERE'S BILL? WE HAVEN'T SEEN A NEW CURIOUS CAR IN MONTHS. PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!
Look forward to the Fifth Avenue video. Those were tanks!!!
That is absolutely what I see when I think classic truck. Good to hear from you! Good luck with the auction, it should do well as nice as it is.
Thank you bill!
Only 23 minutes, but we'll take it for our love and addiction to uncle Bill.
Wondered where you've been. Welcome back!
I think the T knob is the hand-operated throttle.
Love the comment the stip club or the farmers market ! No one does a better reveiw than Bill !!!
How's it going Bill, hope you've been keeping well, Have you tried the anti our great Ally whiskey yet? 😂
Thanks for this one, Bill.. Congratulations on getting the video to clock in under 25 minutes, although honestly I prefer the longer ones... Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top might like this truck..
Nice piece
Should we send a search party out for Bill?
Good review, Bill. Most of those old pickups were driven into the ground. In my old neighborhood on the southwest side of Detroit in the 50s & 60s lived a junk/handy man that owned a '54 similar to this one. Of course, it was all beat to hell from overloading everything on it imaginable. Yet with all the abuse, it seemed to run regardless of weather & was one tough mother. Something about those Chevy 235 sixes & I bought a '54 210 4-door in '67 when I was in the Army stationed near Pueblo Colorado for $200. It also ran great & was very reliable. Thanks for the great memories.
My first truck was a 1950 Chevrolet 3100. It had the split windshield & a stovebolt 216 straight 6, with 3 on the tree & Babbit bearings (cast bearings). Had it around 1980. Not a speed demon, but it would go 75mph on the expressway, no problem. Had a funny enclosed driveshaft. I can't remember, what that type of driveshaft was called?
Anyway, it was a beat to Hell rust bucket like so many others.
@@sparky6086 Sounds like the internal shaft bearings or couplers were worn out causing a wobbling noise or vibration which could damage the rear main seal or at the other end, a leaky rear end seal. When I bought my '54 the odometer said 93k. I doubt if it had 193K, back in those days odometers only went to 99,999.9 & then went back to zero. The only problem I had was it idled a little rough & I found a moonlighting GM mechanic in Colorado Springs to rebuild the head. He spent 2 nights working on it, charged me $40 parts included to do it & even in '68 that was a helluva deal. After that it was whisper quiet & was super smooth. I drove it home to Detroit numerous times without any issues. Great, reliable car & had some fun times in it.
@robertchristie9434 It didn't have a mechanical problem. The driveshaft went through a pipe on it's way to the differential, so it was completely enclosed from the transmission to the differential. I was asking, what the name of that system was.
Wanna see that Chrysler!!
The type of person that bought this truck new didn’t need a glovebox for weapons, they’d just have their guns on a rack in the back window or laying on the seat beside them. Although it’s a great place to store some extra ammunition
Bill the weather isnt that bad. I just got back from Cincinnati last night after watching the eclipse last week and the weather there was horrible. Rained almost every day except last Monday.
Rain = not hot. I’ll take that any day over sweltering
@@jcmarple
Its not that bad to me. There is almost always a breeze especially if you are within a couple miles of the beach. I will say August can be rough but I remember Cincinnati weather was miserable in August as well. I'll take this over the winters as well!!!🤣
The dash knob marked "T" could possibly be a throttle which would act as a primitive cruise control like the military jeeps I drove in the seventies. Just a thought.
No. While the T is for throttle, it is used to manually set a fast idle while warming up.
Hey Bill, you okay?
Not a truck guy either Bill. But will watch you review a stroller man. Now the Mopar Fifth Avenue - can't wait. Had the pleasure of owning a Diplomat SE ... the only non cop white sedan in town. People would always slow down when they saw the Mopar.😅
Canadians put Bill in a very uncomfortable back seat to see how "chipper" he feels!
Bill, what you do in that case, tell him to come 4x farther away to rescue you. When he calls pissed you’re not there say ohh I just got it going bye bye.Mike the Greek
Bill must be in Bangkok again!!!!!
Oh for the love of God.... a month and a half with no videos since this thing?! I'm worried the birds or those homicidal deer with their front-facing eyes got him! Hope Bill and everyone is staying safe. 🤙🥃🥴
Scary having the fuel tank inside the cab behind the passenger seat😵💫
Fantastic!
Is Bill ok?? It's been a month. Do we need to send a search party after him???
Nice old truck! It looks tiny next to the Z-71.
I know! That's half of what's wrong with this country!
Amen
The "T" is for 'throttle'- You pull it out to keep the idle a little higher while it warms up.
the babbit rod six didnt do it any justice till the 235
Hey Bill. Let us know if you're alive. Thx
Bill the kind of guy who goes to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve so he can get loaded early.
You, the kinda guy that's clever

Right? Enough with the same old schtick.
@@rudolphguarnacci197 Mostly I dislike the line because it reminds me of Doug Demuro from way back. He got old. It got old. New material would be good.
That's right. I don't even hardly see any 90s cars like mine. On the road, including my 1983 Mercedes, 240 diesel. You don't see no 70s 80s 90s vehicles. The last time I saw on 1970s L. T d was back in 1989.
I can't even take a picture of my car on a nice day. Because of the paper wasp I can just get a bug spray instead of a car collection. Have someone have a dead wasp collection So I can continue doing what I could do by fixing up my car on a nice day. Thanks for the update on the video Bill That's gotta be at uncle Johnny's truck, right.. I wish I could find a model 1/18 scale to put in my room on top of my shelf along with my Ferrari collection.
Thief at a truck stop? No big stretch. Thief at a truck stop that needs Chrysler Fifth Avenue parts? That's somewhat unlikely. Thief at a truck stop who was at one time hauled away in a cop car that looked like a Fifth Avenue and wanted a souvenir? Well, there you go.
Nice Truck ❤ ITTTTTT
Bill, review the Triumph TR8 at AutoHaus!
Downshift braking works well on these trucks.
The headlight trim hooded rings improve the look a lot. Reminds me of a period dodge.
I’m not a pickup truck guy, by any means. But this was a really cool video! Can a review of a 1970’s moped be far behind?
I like that 72 LTD
Where’s another video??? It’s like going through Bills desert, no videos 😢
Bill. How are you? We are missing your inspiring video's.
WHERE ARE YOU BILL??????????? I miss my weekly dose of curmudgeonly humor, wit and cool car videos.COME BACK BILL,COME BACK???!!!...
🎉🎉
Where are you Bill? Hope you’re ok!
That knob with the T on it is supposedly the throttle cable.
Is the love of pickup trucks come from the dust bowl?
Long live Dalton
Bill?!!!!! Make another video. We're getting a little upset
So where is Bill heading to?
My mom had an LTD like that.
👏👏
Farmer's market, strip club, haha good stuff! What a solid ride!
I hope with changes adorable Dalton is back. Edit: My comment was in the beginning when you mentioned "changes", then somewhere after 19:00 A MENTION OF DALTON with the shitty windshield...I felt of warmth of the way it was when you bitched about Daltons windshields all the time, and all other kinds of shit...like him not airing up the spares, or not getting the trash out from behind the front seats, or not cleaning out the console...which pushed your buttons in a big way and you'd fall to pieces. But cars are big, and all that's a lot to do, all those nooks and crannies, and Dalton was adorable. And like when a pic of Dalton 🥵and you'd say his stupid shades on and his stupid beard, wow Dalton was HOT...yeah I'm gay, and have a major crush on Dalton, still do apparently, especially when he went all-boy and hauled ass from the law on that crotch rocket that time and got put in jail....hot! Enough of me wanting to marry Dalton, I wish he would jump the fence, but all those right turns a right out of Peters driveway and the morning sun hit the windshields and there it was...looked like Dalton had cleaned the windshield with a raw piece of chicken and you losing your shit. Good times. Hope Dalton is well, wherever he is💔....and tell him Ken said hi, and if there's anything he wants...like a new motorcycle or something. 💪
Nomenclature is very good with Chevy trucks.
That is pretty
Well shit Bill you should’ve give me a quick call. I’m in Southwest Missouri, but I would have come and showed up. You could’ve been back home having dinner going to bed. Woke up the next day and going on with life but now I just showed up.
And by the way Homer and Peter are Tawny Kittane in “stolen car wash “
Maybe I should give Chris the wasp collection🐝 Since he has a yellow Simpson shirt👕😂

@willydavid 75 miles per hour, not miles per gallon. Sorry 'bout that. Autocorrect must have gotten the best of me again!
@@willydavid I know. Thanks for the correction!
I wouldn't want to mislead anyone.
Torque-Tube.
@@misterwhipple2870 Yes. That's it. Thanks!
Also worth noting, Chevy made this generation of truck up until early '55, which means you could get a small block 265 V-8 in it from the factory. Only available in this generation for a very short time. Most people back in the day wanted the snazzy new redesigned late '55 version, however, which was one of my favorite pickups from the '50's. The first Fords from the post war generation of F-1's may not have looked quite as nice as this Chevy, but by '53 Ford had tweaked the styling enough to make it the ultimate classic pickup from the 1950's. The '53 to '56 Fords put this '54 Chevy to shame in the looks department, making it look pretty pedestrian by comparison. I remember tons of these Chevy's running around as a kid, but everyone wanted the '55-7 Chevy's and '53-6 Fords instead.
Hated the new '55 Task Force trucks, and missed this series terribly! Starting with that God-Awful '55-'59 Pie-Wedge speedometer! Even this speedometer is a bump up from the older 80 MPH version, which is where they should have quit! Chevy went BACK to 80 speedos in '77, so why did they ever leave?
Ok this is getting serious....Bill, just come on and say your good even if there's no car vid.
He just posted on Twitter. He’s alive thank goodness lol.
@@JamesKonopasek-so2qf thank you.
