Trust me, I know. I know so well that every year when I go to Alabama to visit my family, I drive all the way from Brooklyn so I can bring my catfish, brim and fresh peas back in my cooler. I can't get anything close to it up north.

On the Nueces River, we would catfish with lard we would render from pig fat. The water was so merky we would use the scent to attract them. We would cut the lard which was pretty much soap at that point, into cubes to bait the hooks. You are bringing back good memories.

I appreciate you cleaning your fish for us because you taught me how to fillet with the quickness now. I use to get frustrated trying to filet I started eating them jokers with skin on! I’ll be watching this again to get the spices right next time I bring home some catfish but next time, black eye peas going down with them!! Great looking catfish. I lived in Philly for a few years as a kid and caught catfish out of the Wissahickon. They were small but real tasty!

Bro, I HATED catfish for years until I let go of my ego and kept a couple of smaller ones. Actually, the same size as those shown in the video. The taste is completely different. Now I love them. Being in Ohio, catfish are caught easily, so anytime I feel like frying up a few, I head to the river down the street and go to work. They hit my lures at the damn too when I'm White Bass and Walleye/Saugeye fishing.
