  • In this Whiteboard session we'll go through what controls the FIP. Fuel system is very comparable to the standard 300tdi engine with a Bosch VE pump except it has a brain to help to get more power.

    Thanks Chris, you are great at explaining complex systems clearly. Very Helpful, Thanks again.

    And every single bit you pointed out is currently sitting in a box in the shed. Hateful system because it is also linked to alarm system and immobilizer.

    I have a Rover 400 with the L series Diesel in it, its an early one that has an almost completely mechanical controlled Bosch VE pump but the timing is ECU controlled. Has a lift sensor on number one injector, crank position and maf (egr has been removed), and a timing solenoid underneath the pump exactly like the VP30 EDC. Its started to play up now after 185k miles with really bad blue white smoke on cold startup, with light missing and bogs when you try and rev through it. After say 2-3 mins if you pull away hard and give it WOT it clears and its mostly driveable when warm, but with intermittent full power when at WOT. Lately after watching the engine idle i can hear the timing wandering around from quiet diesel knock and slight smoke to normal running diesel knock. I can definitely hear a buzz coming from the bottom of the pump intermittently from the timing solenoid area. Is my timing solenoid giving up? So far i've changed the fuel filter and ran injector cleaner through it, and had the Relief valve out and made sure its free moving, the retaining collar on the bottom was sticking out abit so i've tapped that back in so its level with the bottom of the valve although i doubt it will change much. ANY ideas? as the forums i've been on haven't a clue and its mainly the vp30 that has the solenoid failure ending tractor syndrome....which this isn't having atm.

    Hi, I am a bit worried having seen this video, I have a RRC with the VM2.5 good old motor but it's got just under 300 k on it, so I have purchased a 96 disco 300 tdi to swap motors and boxes .
    this 300 has the same pump as my wife's 200 tdi disco except it has wires coming out of the top, there are no wires on any of the injectors, Has my swap just got a lot more involved i.e. ECM sensors etc. I went the TDI route because of cost of rebuild the VM parts are a fortune, And being an old truck driver I prefer to have least tech as possible. Thank for all the great video's hope you get things sorted out soon. Steve an Englishman in France.

      the wires on the top of the pump is the position sensor for the EGR . It is the as close as damnit to the 200tdi pump but with the addition on the top of the throttle spindle

      It'll run perfectly well if you cut the wires and remove the EGR.

    Thank you for that, it's confirmed mine does NOT have this. But it does have a electronic part on top of the FIP & a small ECU under the middle seat. What is this & what does it do please?

    Hi does the 300 tdi edc use the sensor on the top of the head ?

    This is a very interesting clip! But maybe it's a stupid question, but can you advance the timing by mounting the so called boost ring? I have a 300Tdi Auto with EDC pump

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  4 роки тому

      It is not is much advancing the timing but lets more travel occur in part of the pump that will allow you fuel.... Neil @

    I'm glad I don't have any of that electronic shit. Standard mechanical FIP with no electronic control to go upside down!
