To be fair, this could've been more of a USC thing than it was a Wisconsin thing. USC did the same thing against LSU and Michigan(second half adjustments). That's just USC. It's clear, in order to beat USC, you need to have a pretty damn big lead before going into half.
2ndHalf football USC is destroying teams. If we would of came out the gate string against Michigan and game planned better that team would of never won. We shut Michigan out in the 2nd half badly, that team didn't get a first down until that big run at 2:20 mark of the 4th quarter, when we had made our run and took the lead. 1stHalf u guys were in it cause we figured u guys out. Also we made countless mistakes on our end in the first half that allowed yall to build momentum and get scores.
As a USC fan, we were in the same boat 2 years ago. We were 4-8 with no direction and have since been much better with a heisman trophy and so much more to cheer about. Longo has to go. It's not just the fact that we don't have the players for his scheme, his scheme sucks. What is the goal of the scheme? Get players the ball in space? What is space without blockers or leverage? Okay so throw the ball out to the receiver in the flat with no blockers and no leverage and It gets stuffed every time. Shotgun on 4th and one. Almost no pre-snap motion. What is the plan? I mean seriously what the fuck is the plan? You gain yards by either moving down the field with blockers, catching the ball downfield, or getting the ball in space WITH leverage and the only thing we can sometimes do is get a guy in the middle on a crossing route, which is not reliable considering our qb and receivers. So we maybe get one nice play and then we can't do it again because the scheme isn't helping anyone. The entire offense requires our players to go out and make great plays and we don't have those caliber of players. It just doesn't make any sense, the scheme is dog shit. I dream for an offense like the way LaFleur and the packers play especially when Arod was/Love is hurt. Pre snap motion, blockers down field, making things EASIER for your players. Giving your players blockers down field. A scheme that does not need an incredible quarterback to be effective. This is college, make things easy on your players.

Fourth and 1/2 yard and you call a running play from the shotgun to the smallest back you have and have nobody to block the backside d-end/linebacker rush? Worst fourth down call ever. Ever. Worst in college, it would be the worst in pros, worst in high school. How can you be considered an elite OC and call that play?? You can’t. Sorry Phil, can’t bless that. You’re now Phil Long(gone). Don’t see recovering from that play call. Oh well…. the good news is, nobody consults me on these decisions….

Honestly i wasnt expecting much and them having a good first half and hanging with USC is impressive and gives something to build on after the terrible Alabama game. A lot of Badgers fans expect them to win 9-10 games. I expected 6-7
Why Didn't Longo adjust to the Devensive adjustment SC made at half? SC took away the run & put their Dbacks on an Island. Thefumbled punt didn't help as Henry took his eyes off the ball. Defense played well but how do you stop 4 WR's 6'4" & above.
Soft like your Mom? Or, soft like your defense that couldn't stop a Michigan team incapable of throwing the ball? USC ain't winning SHIT in the Big Ten...ever!
The defense was acceptable. They gave up 31 points. That's not bad vs USC. They converted a bunch of 3rd downs, but the guys were usually in decent position. USC qb and weapons are simply better than WI defenders.
Why are people saying McIntosh's future is at stake if the Fickell hire doesn't work? Fickell was highly sought after, was the best hire at the time and everyone was saying this was a homerun hire. Plus McIntosh hired Hastings who has turned the Men's hockey program into a top 10 team right away.
Can we also talk about how Thomas should not be playing? Gets washed out on every run assignment, no good in coverage, incredibly dumb and untimely offsides penalties, the list goes on...
22 minutes in, no credit to USC, except for “great atmosphere” due to Badger fan attendance. Strange. My impression is that USC had to execute at an extremely high level to overcome Wisconsin’s defensive effort. Hard to think of a catch that wasn’t highly contested. Agree that the muffed punt return was a turning point, but there was more to the turnaround than that. Witness second-half vs. Michigan. Best of luck the rest of the season. ✌🏽
I think every Badger fan knew the second Henry muffed that punt, the game was over. Defense played pretty well IMO all things considered. USC made some great contested catches or had perfect throws from Moss when they really needed it, esp on a lot of those 3rd downs. Once again, Longo's "pick a play, any play" BS led to the offense never getting into rhythm and hanging the defense out to dry. Run D actually looked reasonable for once!
Michigan fan here. What I see with Wisconsin right now is reminiscent of what I saw with Rich Rod at Michigan. A team full of players recruited with one offensive identity in mind running an offense they're not suited for. Now you're in No-man's-land and aren't really good at either thing. I don't think it's quite as extreme as it was for Rich Rod and Michigan in 2008 (the portal has helped with that) but the lack of identity and the whole "square leg in round hole" vibe feels very similar.
A frustrating loss today but I think you are both right about one thing. The players are not being used with their strengths. It feels like Longo wants players to fit to his scheme rather scheme for them.
Fickells press conf is nothing but excuses and blamming players. He just blammed the players for 4th & 1. Said they missed blocks and a different run set wouldnt help. Im over it.
Yes and that is the right coaching move. There is nothing to show that the offense improves anytime soon. Next year receivers will be worse and the same qb?
This game is on the coaching staff that is creating a culture of inferiority. The players played great the first half and in the second half the coaching staff went into the classic do not lose it game. Against good competition you need to play to win in all 4 QTRS. And what lost the game was the horrific 4th and 6 inch call.... what kind of a coach would run a shotgun to get 6 inches. Trying to be the smartest coach in the building made you look like an idiot.
This conversation sounds exactly like the texting between my son and I through this game. Fickle has not brought that feeling to the Badgers that feels like progress. I agree we need to be patient but in this portal and NIL era you don't get as long.😢
Eh, there were positives. I though the D was decent actually, considering the opponent. I mean they had some pretty well covered WRs just making ridiculous plays left and right. I don't think these coaches suck, so I think there will be further improvement in the O. Thinking 7-5. Before the season I had hoped 8-4, but didn't think we'd lose our QB.
Well i suppose we can wrap this season up and try again next year.....guess thats what we deserve when the higher ups thought this was the way to go 🙄🙄😵💫
I said 2 weeks ago: " Fire Fickell and Longo. Fickell has totally destroyed the Badgers - who are now identity-less. ". This game has reinforced my opinion.
I know Fickell is a defensive guy, but how many more times are they going to go shotgun on 4th and 1 for him to realize there is a reason why NO NFL team ever does that! Longo should be fired for just that reason. How stupid and stubborn can you be! I might have to switch to rooting for Ohio State (yikes!)
I can handle losing this game, nobody expected us to win due to the large discrepancy in talent. It's the way that we lost. We were handed a victory and just crapped the bed in the second half. To me it seems like coaching is the problem
There is a clear divide between how Fickell and Longo want this offense to run, and it leads me to question why Fickell chose to hire Phil Longo to begin with. Longo is probably going to leave at the end of the year (even if he isn’t fired), Bradyn likely as well, and probably his brother too. Unsure about Mabrey. Our qb room is about to be more barren than when Fickell took over. Yikes
The reason people are saying what they are saying is, from last year to this year, there has been no improvement in the team. They appear to be worse off than they were last year. say what you want but Wisconsin is not known for sloppy football which is what we are seeing
We r who we r. I feel like off or def can play any better. Off bad def worse & worse unit on field today coaches. Normal 4th dn bs. Why we didn't kick a field goal in a 3 score game (& alumni cover **free tip 2 keep ur Alum 💰😊) This wk is the litmus test r we firmly in the bottom 4 or can we salvage something from this season. On Wisconsin
the front 7 showed how weak they were against WMU and USD. It wasn't going to get better against high quality B1G talent. This team just isn't very good, the coaching hasn't been good enough to overcome that lack of talent which has led to this mess.
Fire Longo!!! His play calling is absolutely terrible! Running a shotgun on a half-yard play was idiotic. I mean seriously. Even the announcers questioned the play calling in the game. He's got to go.
The Badgers have lost any kind of identity, mystique, hope, whatever. They're really just any meaningless program now. And with the transfer portal and the NIL catastrophe, I'm not really sure I care anymore.
Saying “USC isn’t the 13th best team in the nation” after being shutout 28-0 and being held to 81 yards in the 2nd half is crazy lmaooo.

Agree that the muffed punt return was a turning point, but there was more to the turnaround than that. Witness second-half vs. Michigan. Best of luck the rest of the season. ✌🏽
Not winning @Rutgers. Let’s put a stop to that now.
Bench Locke, run a fb dive or qb sneak on 4th and inches, stop being a loser
UW recruits and potential recruits have to be having second thoughts about coming here.
And past Badger greats are speaking up. We gotta hear what Braelon has to say
Im over it.
If Fickle fires Longo tonight - will you still support Fickell?
he would regain my support
Yes and that is the right coaching move. There is nothing to show that the offense improves anytime soon. Next year receivers will be worse and the same qb?
@@DownstreamV- it's the only way I stay on the Fickell wagon
Longo is horrendous. Please let him go
YES, but only if they fire Tressell and Grinch, too.
Looks like they covered the spread
This game is on the coaching staff that is creating a culture of inferiority. The players played great the first half and in the second half the coaching staff went into the classic do not lose it game. Against good competition you need to play to win in all 4 QTRS. And what lost the game was the horrific 4th and 6 inch call.... what kind of a coach would run a shotgun to get 6 inches. Trying to be the smartest coach in the building made you look like an idiot.
He is an idiot.
This conversation sounds exactly like the texting between my son and I through this game. Fickle has not brought that feeling to the Badgers that feels like progress. I agree we need to be patient but in this portal and NIL era you don't get as long.😢
That muffed punt reception really hurt the Badgers.
Well i suppose we can wrap this season up and try again next year.....guess thats what we deserve when the higher ups thought this was the way to go 🙄🙄😵💫
At this point fire the AD as well for hiring this crew.
I’m a usc fan and watch the usc show you were on before the game. Your d line looked a lot better than you let on.
I said 2 weeks ago: " Fire Fickell and Longo. Fickell has totally destroyed the Badgers - who are now identity-less. ". This game has reinforced my opinion.
I don’t think this is that bad. We are a 7-5 team and we lost to number 1 Bama and a better USC team with a backup QB on the road.
Don’t beat yourselves up too badly, here… The Trojans are a really good football team. Don’t be surprised if they go undefeated into the playoffs.
How are we not keeping our 4 star Wisco kids in state??? I thought Fickell was this amazing recruiter??
This is terrible. So many people are checking out on the badgers and focusing on packers
A couple Trojans beat the Packers today
I know Fickell is a defensive guy, but how many more times are they going to go shotgun on 4th and 1 for him to realize there is a reason why NO NFL team ever does that! Longo should be fired for just that reason. How stupid and stubborn can you be! I might have to switch to rooting for Ohio State (yikes!)
I can handle losing this game, nobody expected us to win due to the large discrepancy in talent. It's the way that we lost. We were handed a victory and just crapped the bed in the second half. To me it seems like coaching is the problem
Longo has to go. Defense was better...might beat a few teams.
"They are who we thought they were." Not physical enough in the trenches. 🤔🤷♂️
We need powerhouse quality coordinators. We have talent but we aren't doing anything with them.
Yikes
Do we really care if they leave? not really. B Locke is terrible and his brother already has a torn ace. That injury almost always comes back.
Fickell was a one year wonder at Cincinnati, he's not the HC that will take Wisconsin to where McIntosh wants to go
Fickel built Cincinnati before they were good enough to make it into the playoffs. He didn't just show up and all of a sudden Cincinnati was good.
Wake up. This coaching staff is awful
Everybody is a coach now days and want instant gratification. How about some patience and let Fickle build his program.
Totally agree. Based on people’s comments you would think fickell has been the coach for 3 years but he has actually been head coach for less than 2.
Call Darrell Bevell now PLEASE!!
Longo is a D3 OC
obvious new hc hire for '25 wisky should be jake dickert
If Longo departs, do Mettauer and the Lockes leave as well?
I don’t think it matters to be honest. Our offense isn’t prepared with Longo.
@Matchee71 Agree and with this new transfer portal era they can find someone.
the front 7 showed how weak they were against WMU and USD. It wasn't going to get better against high quality B1G talent. This team just isn't very good, the coaching hasn't been good enough to overcome that lack of talent which has led to this mess.
Why are you freaking out we are two years from being really good just telling you that!!!
Fire Longo!!! His play calling is absolutely terrible! Running a shotgun on a half-yard play was idiotic. I mean seriously. Even the announcers questioned the play calling in the game. He's got to go.
Chryst giggling..
The Badgers have lost any kind of identity, mystique, hope, whatever. They're really just any meaningless program now. And with the transfer portal and the NIL catastrophe, I'm not really sure I care anymore.
RB by committee = no RB
So, just start and play Dupree
