With the WWF attracting a wider age demographic during the early 90s, WCW felt they had to begin appealing to a more youthful audience. The WWF had characters such as Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior; larger than life characters who looked like they were ripped straight from a comic book. WCW, in many ways, had appealed to an older demographic during the 80s with a more "no nonsense" style of professional wrestling. At Captial Combat 1990 however, WCW would get a little whacky when RoboCop made an appearance. Yes, RoboCop in WCW.
Sting had joined the Four Horsemen in late 1989 but when the Stinger wouldn't give up his title shot against Ric Flair, he was ejected from the group. Sting also suffered an injury that would keep him on the shelf for a little while.. so backup was needed. A few phone calls from the heads of Turner Entertainment resulted in RoboCop coming to save Sting at the Captial Combat show. This video covers RoboCop's appearance on this WCW PPV event.

I'd buy that for a dollar
Not me! I wouldn't even buy that for a Nickel...or even a Penny!!!😵🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂
A 160000 people did. Buy it just not not for a doller
I still use that line today
Might as well go all in then...
"Can you fly Bobbie...??"
@@ronaldshank7589 im guessing youve never seen the movie
"Dead or Alive you're wrestling with me"
..nice !!
Genius.
Well done lol
"DIVAS, LEAVE!"
That's a good one!
ED-209 should’ve came out and obliterated everybody.
You have 20 seconds to comply.

A robot police officer and a surfer wrestler vs the 4 horsemen
I wanna see that
ok how about we repackage Eddie and Doug Gilbert as Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers and we also have Terry Funk wrestle Corporal Kichener dressed up as Leatherface?
True stories.
LOL @ ‘surfist’
@Big Al Hah, so true. It really does.
Sting
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m surprised WCW didn’t have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Power Rangers wrestle.
Pretty sure there was a WWF match featuring Turtles once or maybe it was a WCW match.
ua-cam.com/video/QR0YSq9cskk/v-deo.html
But at least they had "Arachna-Man" or something like that.
Thank God Jim herd didn't stay in the company for very long to do that because most likely he would have gotten the idea to come up with something like that
WCW did have a Terminator rip off beginning for WCW Saturday Night.
I think I speak for all of us when I say Robocop is LONG overdue for a WWE HOF induction.
This here .Peter Weller can be brought in and this can be used to get a new movie made.
"No pulling out a gun to blow up ole anderson."
Best quote.
Oh boy, we're getting into that good aged CHEESE now 😂
Yum yum "Koff Koff" yummy! That means that I find this whole idea of "Robocop" appearing with Sting back in 1990 to be another one of those "Red Herrings", forced on us by "President Pizza"-Jim Herd. No thanks! Not for me! Why was Jim Herd even made President of WCW? That "Man", if ya wanna call him that, nearly sank WCW, with stupid ideas such as The Ding-Dongs, Robocop, and even wanting Ric Flair to cut his hair, wear a Gold Earring, and call himself "Spartacus". Good grief! Give me a break! If I was Ric Flair, I'd of gone to the WWF, too!
You mean WrestleCrap.
It was a good Book!
Cheese is better aged

Alex D same, I was proper into wrestling during the 90s and it’s great watching this channel and reliving some memories.
I know, I was just thinking "This channel is a goldmine for anyone wanting to relive and expand their knowledge of 90s wrestling. I love the frequency and quality of uploads, too. You must be working 24/7. Big thanks"
At least RoboCop didn’t fall over upon entrance... Ring any bells ?

That would have been a great shock
Yup. Your comment sir, was *ahem* a SHOCKINGLY amusing. 😏😁
Bob dole falling off stage
Shock master!! Lol with the glittered stormtrooper helmet 😂
As a wrestling fan this was one of the more embarrassing moments. How the hell were you supposed to explain it to a friend?
It’s right up there with Halloween havoc (Hogan/giant/yeti) and the macho man dropping an elbow on his friend Hogan to help him hulk up.
*Yetay ;;)
@GBProductions84 then his new friends will think wrestling is stupid too lol
As a wrestling fan, you can either (1) have no shame and not notice what people think (2) have no shame and not care what people think
Damn that elbow drop 🤣🤣🤣
How can you forget the Chucky/Rick Steiner face off?
.....Just gonna wait for that "Story of Chucky from Child's Play in WCW" video..... or the KISS Demon.
I love these mini-docs on the whacky moments in wrestling.
Rick Steiner talking to Chucky on the big screen🤣🤣🤣
YES! I hope Wrestling Bios sees this or has already planned to these at some point (if it hasn’t happened already).
Lol the kiss demon 🤣 why wcw why
@@benwatkins85 Why not?
Or the armless knight from Quest For Camelot.
Since Ted Turner owned WCW i'm surprised Captain Planet never showed up.

RoboCop? In WCW?
I’d buy that for a dollar!
According to Tony Schivane it’s not Peter Weller in the Robocop suit, it’s a stuntman who stood in for Weller
I feel for poor JR having to call it like it wasn't ridiculous. "Here comes RoboCop!"
Gordon Solie too. God, Jim Herd was such a moron.
No worse than what hes had to call in AEW lately
@@Smokey1419 yeah he just had to call chuck taylor going throw an arcade video game system to set up a silly Miro matchup
@@hulklogan2756 dont get me wrong, im a huge gamer, but that was silly. Miro looks like a beast, why do they insist on making him look so dumb?
I remember that even as a kid, I thought it was so dumb having Robocop in WCW
I was laughing my ass off when he ripped the door off the small cage as a kid.
Since his name was brought up a couple times I wouldn't mind seeing you do a full video on Jim Herd's run in WCW.
That's a great idea.

No I don't believe so, but the man himself talks about it here;
www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2020/02/ric-flair-talks-wcw-wanting-to-repackage-him-666963/
I loved Robocop, but damn... the appearance in WCW was more cheesier than Chester the cheetah.
It ain't easy being cheesy...but Robocop in WCW made it look that way
He is a Robot,
He is a Cop
He is a RoboCop
They shot his head in,
And now he's dead-in,
Now he's a RoboCop.
Not just me then 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂
He also does this and he also does that.
An excellent comment.
That is what you sing to the main part of his theme.
I was too young to see that in person, but I don't know man, even now, that looked pretty sweet. Seeing RoboCop for any reason is awesome. They should have gotten the Terminator next.
One of the most absurd, ridiculous stories in pro wrestling history being given the documentary-style treatment by one of the best wrestling channels on UA-cam? Sign me right the hell up. This was an absolute joy to watch, thanks so much for everything you do.
I saw “Wrestling Bios” and “ Story of Robocop” and got super excited!!
This is cool because I always wondered what this whole thing was about. I mean I know about the match and I saw the match but...
He is a Robert. He is a cop. HE IS A ROBERT COP.
That should have been in 2000 with Russo
@@Joecbg100 I dunno if he's worthy of such Scythelord goodness.

Robocop was in WCW & Mortal Kombat! Just like how Terminator's in WWE 2K16 & Mortal Kombat!
@Benjamin Volk I know that too
@Benjamin Volk
We need a current gen RoboCop VS Terminator game... I played the Hell outta the MegaDrive cart!
Robocop in WCW, to quote Tony Schiavone, "Yeah right, that'll put asses in the seats!"
How does this not have more likes?! 😅😂🤣
Sting called the cops wow
I remember watching WCW back in 1990 eating a bowl of cereal
You didn't see this segment, and end up spitting your Cereal all over the place, did ya? I would have! Either that, or I'd of probably choked on my cereal. Who was the absolute DUNCE that ever put Jim Herd in power? They regretted that decision very quickly, I'll bet!!!
@@ronaldshank7589 I agree looking back the segment was trash but I was only 8 years old at the time
A salad bowl of frosted flakes...... it was a lot of our childhoods brother. I was 10.
That RoboCop suit is awesome. It looks better and moved better than I had imagined it would.
"Here comes Robocop, Bob!" You could feel part of Jim Ross' wrestling soul dying with those words.
"No pulling out a gun and blowing up Ole Anderson..."
That caught me off guard and now I can't stop laughing!
Jim Heard: How can we make wcw kid friendly?
How about we introduce Robo Cop?
Herd didn’t think that one through
If Vince was really a genius, he would've booked Judge Dreed to save the Undertaker from DX.
Good idea but the filmed bombed, but robo cop was a huge hit.
@Dr. Loomis nah I was a kid when robo cop came out. Everybody in the entire city was talking about him, and even though the movie was rated r, every kid in my school saw the movie and had the toys, including myself. And robocop was on every bill board, poster, tv channel and rental vhs tape. Everyone was always hype when they saw the robocop preview. He was a huge hit!!
Judge Dredd to The Undertaker: I AM THE LAWL!
@Dr. Loomis The Movie made back four times what was spent, had 2 more sequels (not counting the remake) a cartoon series and a short lived tv show. What is your definition of huge hit? Jurassic park? That's a mega hit, not a huge hit.
I’m really impressed with all this old footage you can find. Best series on wrestling I’ve seen.
*Leaves out David Arquette, WCW’s biggest celebrity blunder, when talking about celebrities in wrestling*
Master P ftw.
Let's forget that and pretend never happened .Ready to Rumble was good but Arquette winning title was cringe
Dennis Rodman.😏
If they waited 2 years and brought out Ahnold as the Terminator then it would've been a much better cheese fest.
At least it wasn't a nothing burger like Chucky The Killer Doll or that cringy armless knight from Quest For Camelot.
Arnie could actually move around as the Terminator. Maybe go with a fully flesh-covered appearance for easiness.
You catch the lighthearted zeitgeist of the 90s with your productions like no one else. Thank you for those time capsules!!
My life is this simple: I see a new video from Wrestling Bios.... I click "like" and THEN I watch the video....
This is only saved by the Shockmaster going through the set a few years later :D
They shouldve just put an altered costume with a mask he could wrestle in, and robotic looking shoulder pads to wear out to the ring. And just put it on an actual wrestler for the match. They could've showed some wcw scientist altering him for "close combat" lol
They could've just done it like in the movie, where people hurt themselves trying to hit him and he throws them around.
@@MrNegativecreep07 oh so you mean Roman Reigns🤣
i laughed way longer than i should have at "wcw scientist"
@@ComicBookGuy420 Bruh 💀💀💀🤣
@@outsiderzzzz Paul Heyman had that early gimmick where they used a computer to predict match outcomes
You know, I always assumed that Robocop in WCW happened during the Vince Russo era and was surprised to learn that it actually occurred several years before that.
We definitely need a video on the Great Muta. Some of us don't know much about Muta and his WCW career
These videos are amazing. Nostalgia at its best. Well done on these you can tell you enjoy your work. Keep it up and keep going.
Before i knew you were releasing a video today, I was humming the Robocop theme. Thank you for reading my mind and thank you for another awesome video.
Best wrestling channel on the internet. Thank you.
Thanks for posting dude. You're the man.
I enjoyed the Muppets on Raw. The Beaker and Sheamus segment was very memorable
Would’ve loved to see this referenced in his Mk11 intros lol
YES! That would've been great. Imagine if The Crow was in MK11 and was facing RoboCop. I could imagine Murphy saying "You remind me of someone I saved" or something.
That was definitely not Peter Weller in the suit. That guy couldn't do the walk right at all. Also his face is too small for the chinguard.
I read it was Rob Van Damme
@Ivan Alexander Nah it wasn't.
Tony Schavione said on his podcast it was his stunt double, Russell Towery.
30 years later and people are still talking about it.
Love this concept so much. It's like the Monday Night War of the early 90s. Please do more of this. Maybe even stories on old territories wars.
I needed this. Thank you
"So that means it's now time for Robocop." I don't know why, but this broke me.
That Sting makeup variations back then 🔥
Peter Weller...I hope the boat you brought was the best damn boat ever!
If Robocop showed up 8-9 years later, maybe we could've seen him challenge Goldberg and his streak
I just watched the first Robocop movie recently (great movie by the way) and, weirdly enough you uploaded a video about Robocop in WCW.
Just when I need something good to watch, you come through with this epic video.
Robocop has infinitie rewatch potential.
Great video keep up awesome work
These are amazing, thank you so much for these videos
Hi, the man in the Robocop suit is the stuntman from all 3 Robocop movies, Russell Towery.
I havent tuned into your channel for a while, didn't realise how much I missed it
WCW Heavyeight Champion:
Robocop: Drop it.
To be fair, Robocop is pretty sweet.
Thank you for another great video

Repeating it won't lead to same results
@@DaileyShorts kind of like the Robocop sequels I suppose

Exciting to catch an upload in the first 45 seconds!
Interesting to note that the Four Horseman were the inspiration for Evolution and they even share similar story beats. With how Sting got kicked out of the stable for taking a title shot with Flair, like Randy Orton was with Triple H.
God bless Arn for selling this abortion as best he could.
Sid actually thought Robocop was a real cyborg. He said in an interview with Hannibal, "He had a malfunction that day..."
Screw Hannibal. Guy is a living joke
Please, more of this! I love your videos and your straightforward/historical presentation style (Raw vs Nitro, career retrospectives), but there is always room for more rubbish like this. Great to see you cover some of Jim Herd's worst ideas like Robocop, and the Ding Dongs tag team.
He's come along way....his fighting in Mortal Kombat now
it's like in Mortal Kombat 11
"oh yeah! Robocop is in it!"
3 minutes later
"Damn it doesn't fit at all" XD
RoboCop saw the 4 Horsemen and said "come quietly or there'll be trouble."
Jim H. must have been on that "Nuke" to think that Robocop and wrestling would be a sweet combo.
Muppets RAW was one of the few watchable RAWs from that era.
I don't know about you guys, but when I was 8 this was realistic.
One of my most fondest memories. The absurdity of it all (and not just in retrospect, but at the time) just makes me smile and miss the "good old days"
Another Wrestling bios video. The wrestling Gods really do know ho to bless our souls
Was blissfully unaware of this cross over mate 🤣🙈
This is by far my favorite video you've done LOLOLOL
I'm about to send this to my siblings lolol they're gonna laugh their asses off xD
