He didn't say he was surprised Eddie lost he was jsut saying Eddie didn't stick to any gameplan of head movement and defence he was only banking on one punch and that's why he lost
Eddie came with anger, Thor came with a plan. That's it.
Thor became a boxer, Eddie became a strongman that learned how to throw a punch. That was the difference. Eddie hoped on a knockout punch early on and when it didn't happen he gassed out and Thor took advantage of that. I said from the beginning Eddie needed an early win, otherwise Thor would drag him out to the deep end and he did. Eddie should have focused more on technique and cardio and he would have had a better chance. The whole fight exposed himself prepping for haymakers with his stance leaving Thor ready.
I dont think he was gassed out he didnt seem tired. He just kept having his right hand low like wtff has he been doing for the past 2 years. the most important rule in boxing keep ur hands up and protect urself. If he threw some punches with his left hand or learned some slipping and ducking he might have had a chance. He clearly didnt learn nothing these past 2 years (this coming from someone rooting for eddie to win the fight) im dissapointed in him tbh

Bags, training, that's all necessary to get you into fighting shape but if you're not sparring you're not ready. You need to apply those skills on someone who is out to hurt you and resisting your attempts. If you don't then you're done.
Thor impressed me a lot . He was moving well , very composed, disciplined, took some big shots and remained composed, very good stances and kept his hands up, managed his energy and didn’t burn himself out. He has improved a lot from his first two fights. If he keeps fighting and gets comfortable enough to start being aggressive he could beat some pros. He would also KO Martin Ford if they ever fought!
boxing is much harder than people think - which is why people who don't realize that, underestimate other fighters, and, why so many bet wrong in this match. eddie is strong, but he's still gotta adhere to boxing rules.
Martin Ford is a big strong guy but he makes out he's a professional fighter like a mma fighter and had fights hes not.. he can lift heavy weights... but he's not a Martial artist like he claims I thought years ago that he had faught amateur mma my 12yr old son has probably got more experience in Martial arts hes trained judo since he was 4 he's been 2 time national champion won a silver in the British but should have won gold he threw the boy just never got enough rotation.. but hes in the national development squad so his judo is free and he's trained thai boxing since he was about 6 ... hes achieved more probably has better technique in throwing and submission but hes 12 and does it for fun and it's all he knows since he was 1 aye had trained Bjj and Judo used to train thai boxing had 3 fights then got into grappling... but I'm not a fighter I like to train and compete but I don't say I'm a mma fighter... but that was Martin's thing or does he just train at a good gym like me and says he's a fighter wee arnt fighters wee just train thai boxing fights at 13 doesn't make me a fighter and competing in grappling tournaments doesn't either that's a match your not getting punched... but I have probably trained longer than him at a higher level definitely in judo and Bjj what rank is he is he a white belt

Amazing focus and sticking to the basics on Thors behalf. To his coach, his corner, and of course Thor himself. So easy to comment and critique a fight, but imagine being nearly 7ft tall and over 330 pounds. Thats ALOT of mass to pump blood to. Well done to The Mountain!!! And Eddy!!
Usually technique goes out the window toward the later rounds, but to me Hafthor seemed to get more technical towards the end, which was very impressive to see.
Yes, Thor did look more technical the longer the fight went on.
It also coincided with Eddie getting tired and less offensive and less defensive.
Well played to Thor, his technique and tactics served him well.
Having said that, I do believe if Eddie maintained cardio and stamina and was still able to throw and land his punch in the later rounds like he could the first round, Thor would not have been able to produce his technique and would have looked more ordinary.
Still, Eddie couldn't and Thor rightfully won.
@@milkshakemuncher I think Thor figured out Eddie's gameplan, so even if Eddie's cardio kept up he wouldn't keep landing those haymakers like he did in round one. Eddie did land one more at the very end but I think Thor was just running out the bell at that point since he was already up on points
I think he figured out the distance between the two and started using his jab a lot more to create space. Also helps that he is a southpaw. Made it hard for Eddie's right to reach him in later rounds

I love martyn, but yesterday he said thor was soft and eddie is going to win easy. Eddie fan here and I was disappointed in eddies ability to throw combos and keep the pressure up. However, I was incredibly impressed with his head movement for how large he is are. It was great. Both men impressed me with there ability. I think eddies lack of striking cost him the round. And Halfthors lack of being able to slip was his biggest weak spot. Both men did great though. For who they are. It was a great fight. No embarrassment here.

Would love to see Thor - Ford. But Eddie Hall's cuts on both eyes say Ford's not giving Thor's punching power enough credit. On Eddie, lots of power in his right hand but made himself too one dimensional, never looked to create openings for himself. Once Thor worked out distance management it was over.

When you are as big as Thor and Eddie, and as strong. Throwing crazy punches to try to end them with one hit is crazy, at least with the hay makers Eddie was throwing, the jabs Thor was throwing are still hard ass hits coming from a worlds strongest man, guys of that size should play it smart like Thor did and focus on landing more hits to stack up damage rather than trying to take someones head off leaning all the way sideways with your fist cocked. @@TheLozfan1000 Once as he was tripped/pushed. The other time he used the ropes which was technically a knockdown even though he didn’t hit the floor. Eddie was properly knocked down multiple times. Resounding win in Thor’s part.

it happened..... the way I expected. I watched Eddie and Thor train so differently. I believe that Eddie had a justifiable complaint about the shadow cast on his world championship by Thor. Hopefully Thor was self aware enough to mention his actions, in the center after the fight. (Hard to remember these guys are still young-ish). Until Thor says publicly that he pulled a total kanye after Eddie's win, then Eddie will probably stay sour. Arnold and Selvester rode their rivalry to the bank , so rivalry isn't always bad.

This is because A LOT of competitors, not just Eddie, questioned Thor's technique before the event.
Even during the lifting, Colin Bryce gave Thor two lifts which should have been disallowed and kept advising Thor, you must do it this way!
Thor did not listen, Eddie then lifted and once he beat Thor's number, he stopped.
Thor then says hey give me the lifts you cancelled, I did it right, Eddie only wins because you robbed me of those lifts.
Fact was, Thor used a disallowed technique and Eddie may have only beat him by 1 lift, but Eddie also could have done a few more reps if needed.
Thor was a sore loser in WSM 2017.

No Thor didn't get knocked down he fell against the ropes then slipped. Never touched the canvas even if the first one against the ropes was technically a knock down in boxing rules. You know this but you cant face the reality Eddie was well beaten. Thor took a couple of rounds to relax and start to box and when he did there was a big gap in quality. If there was a rematch thor would KO him within 2. Now he has that confidence and experience

Almost every really big boxer I’ve trained had this same attitude until he climbed in and looked across the ring at someone his own size. They just aren’t used to facing people of equal size and strength. I was surprised and impressed by Eddie and Thor, but this actor wouldn’t stand a chance. I hope they don’t set up a fight with him. It’s embarrassing watching a big man cry.
I will be honest here, I think that this man would fall to the flor just by getting hit by one of thor's jabs, he's so full of himself, literally eddie of thor could break this guy's neck if they hit him with one of their power punches, literally the day prior he was supporting Eddie and criticizing thor's movements, saying he was way too rigid or stiff or something. Thor vs Martyn? I'd give it to Thor for sure. The thing I admire about Thor is he adapts to the sport he is doing. He lost the weight, changed his training, managed his diet and put in some practise fights, very smart and a professional athlete.
