I work with a lot of older guys its nice to see real tool makers having fun not being so serious all the time and still being very informative and fun at the same time.you dont realize your learning at the time your being entertained and it all just sinks in. thank you guys for what you are doing you know the trade is dying but I think guys my age(kids) who see its alot better then getting screamed at and being called a dumbass because you dont have 40 years under your belt thanks you keep it up and ill keep coming back to learn!!! this show should be in every tool and die class hands down !!!!!!!!
I think they have been smoking a little weed before they made the video... They guy with longer hair and an ear ring supplies the "Gear" every week. Funny that the "Grumpy" guy that normally runs their jig grinders wouldn't tell them how to use it … The "egg beater" set up cracked me up …
In the 80s we used these to make cams. I did the programming for a couple of years for our analog CNC setup with paper tape. Ted, the owner always said these were the machines that won the war (II)
This isn't the quality I've come to expect from STI videos. The verbal teaching content was low, and the humor content was excessive. A little is good, and until this video, I think you've managed it well. That said, I did learn a bit about the Jig Grinder..but it was mostly through observing what it did during the short moment(s) it was in operation. I suggest a bit of a re-group is in order and to have a plan going forward. Maybe take a look at some older content and make a comparison. There are comments about the lack of new and dwindling supply of experienced machinists. As a new hobbyist I'm trying to learn as much as I can, so I'm reading what I can and watching video's on UA-cam is a fair-to-good source, depending on who is delivering the content. In another attempt to broaden my learning, I've also went as far to check the local vocational schools. The wait list for classes is over 7 months, so I think the with a lot of trades, might be suffering from a lack of a place to learn.
Tool makers are often depicted as too serious. We don't think it has to be that way. So we injected humor in an attempt to make learning a fun experience. Learning does not have to be always serious. Thank you for your comment.
This is the cool machine DON ,Im very happy when i watch your clips . I've got moore model 3 and that is only one in VN i keep it allmost 10year and dont know how to use that ,and now i can im super happy and thank again DON !
Moore makes arguably the most precision Jig Bores and Jig Grinders in the world .It was some thing to see you scraping the ways ...I have been a tool die gage maker for 30 yrs. I would never attempt to scrape the head slide ways on a Moore Jig Grinder ..My hats off to you..
At 15:00, the little guys that hold the cover. If you remove this cover you will discover a round rail that should have adjustable stoppers that enable you to set the limits of the C-axis, your oscillating head. In case you doing partial circle. So the operator is not the hard stop like you mentioned.
That`s a great machine Don, I have a job for it right now I have to machine a bearing cap from a Dana differential and your grinder would do it in "jig time" I am torn between the Bridgeport and rotary table or a face plate setup on the lathe I really need a Moore Jig Grinder!!!! I noticed the Moore tool cabinet on the left. Does that bad boy come with the Moore 1 2 3 blocks, Moore rotab, and Moore Sin Plate...complete with all the goodies?
You know, If you participate in engineering forums etc it can all get real stiff. Everyone 'knows' it all and the egos can be grey and huge. You cant please everyone all the time eh. I like the laughs and I learnt something about how this fine piece of machinery works. Simples.
At 1:30, thats a good one, there is no water. This gage shows the temperature of the rotating head. 5 degrees Fahrenheit increase = .0001 per side bigger. On the right side of the head there are 2 heaters that suppose to hold the temperature stable.

Even the 50 year old machines will accurately grind a taper, increasing or decreasing up to 1.25°. There is a double lock knuckle that controls this. It takes a nice granite square and a tenth indicator to get it back to almost vertical. Most guys will always set a bit of a taper, maybe a half tenth at the bottom of a

We have a Moore no2 from the early 70's.. still the most accurate machine in the shop

WE have 6 of those and a cnc more jig grinder with 40 by 24 inch travel ----all are over 40 years old!!!!!!
Forgot --also have 2 jig borers build on the same frame .

I can see how you can make the diameter of the hole very precise, but what about location?
has ways and handwheels like a mill, however much more accurate.
Is the plastic consistent enough in thickness to not throw that stand off a few tenths having it under the mounts?
We dont beleive so, however we have a 50 millionth readout. If it moved at all it would show up there and we would make our correction.
