Lyrics:
I was three days’ ride from Tulsa
En route to Santa Fe
And there beneath the blazing sun
My horse began to sway
Was then I heard a thunderous sound
Come risin’ up behind
The hoofbeats of twelve horsemen
Their course locked on to mine
White Rider
White Rider
Ain’t fixin’ for to join your fated line
White Rider
White Rider
Don’t come to claim me ‘fore I had my time
Was four days’ ride from Tulsa
The Riders still in tow
They were dressed in white from toe to tip
Pale horses trod below
And last among their number
A chilling sight to see
The thirteenth horse lay empty
With a saddle meant for me
White Rider
White Rider
Ain’t fixin’ for to join your fated line
White Rider
White Rider
Don’t come to claim me ‘fore I had my time
Was five day’s ride from Tulsa
When I pitched into the sand
My legs gave out, my body lacked
The strength enough to stand
The Horsemen moved upon me then
Their leader to my side
Said “Son, I think the time has come
To saddle up and Ride.”
White Rider
White Rider
Well, day will come we all will join that line
White Rider
White Rider
They come to claim me now I had my time
Now I had my time
It's crazy to think a song that sounds it could have been sung by Johnny Cash and would have a #1 hit, was made for a video game... Hats off to you sir.
Thank you for the super kind compliment! Ryan's composition on this was incredible, and I intently studied Johnny Cash's vocal style and even his posture while performing to capture his essence in delivering these parts. You'll be happy to hear this song was just nominated for Best Song by the National Association of Video Game Trade Reviews! navgtr.org/nominees
@@JoshuaDuChene I just discovered this and man, you are fantastic. Keep up the great work!
@@wessweat7161 Thank you so much for the kind words! We're so happy that the hard work we put into this album is being appreciated and recognized by so many music lovers around the world. :-D
@@JoshuaDuChene I just played this song for a bunch of old school real cowboys in the Uintah Basin, and they kept asking me "Who sang this? How have I not heard this?" I didn't know how to explain it was from a video game lol, they thought it was legit
@@andrewk9267 Ahahaha nice! That's an excellent story and a very high compliment. Thanks for sharing the song with those folks, and for sharing the story with us. :-D
Played this to my dog. He drank all my bourbon and grew a couple heads
You're welcome
See, the way I heard this is that a three-headed hell hound appears and drags you to the underworld if you drink bourbon while playing this song
Not feeling like everyone's comment
@@AnjinThomas I heard that some who hear this song are beset by a monstrous three-headed wolf, who can be bribed with bourbon to stop it from dragging you to the underworld.
@@AnjinThomas That's not quite how it happened, but I have to admit, your version's better.
In an interview Ryan Ike talked about accidentally ripping himself off when he used a guitar piece that he had written for another project as "temporary music" in West of Loathing, and the devs loved it and insisted he keep it, so he tweaked it slightly to get "Sit Fer A Spell". This must have been that track.
No wonder, those are two of my favorite tracks! But Breathe the Black sounds REALLY close to Spell now that I think about it
For those still wandering, yes the song is a metaphor of death, but if you dig deeper you can find a ghost story from Arizona called "White Riders", which describes 12 riders who come for you when it is your time, aka when you die.
My favorite, alternative Big Iron.
Patrolling the Mojave really makes you want to shoot Texas Red.
As someone who lives near Tulsa, I feel like it's the law that I need to like this song.
Still think this could be easily in the FNV soundtrack.
This song gives me the same nostalgic, fuzzy feeling I get from listening to radio new vegas songs. Kinda weird tbh
2 dislikes from people who wouldnt saddle up and ride.
well the saddle up and ride bit is a metaphor for dying, so...I don't blame in that context.
@@TheSoulknight19 I do
One of the finest songs I’ve heard in my life. Thank You for the Song.
Hats off to the singer for bringing this song to life with his mesmerizing vocals.
The whole OST is amazing, but this one is my absolute favorite! Wonderful work.
So glad you dig the OST, and especially happy to hear that White Rider is your favorite on the soundtrack - it was just nominated for Best Song by the National Association of Video Game Trade Reviews! navgtr.org/nominees
Thanks for your support!
It's close, but for me Heavy Hands just edges it out.
This song so cool. It has good bass, god vocals and beautiful solo. And the whole athmosphere is awesome. One of the most recognizable songs off the game
Hey wait a second this is just ghost riders in the sky but with different words and music
This is my favorite song. I listen to it once or twice daily
Alright, time to make a reborn fire genasi, on a quest to find out who put him in that shallow grave. And to repay the favor.
Just engagin’ with the content here, Barnes.
The whole soundtrack is amazing but this song is my favourite. Amazing composition, amazing vocals, everything feels like something a parallel universe Johnny Cash could have been famous for.
awesome !
I never was one much to cry over music. But this? THIS? god damn. perfection. I am in love
Absolutely amazing
It's a great song, keep up the good work. My favorite OST of the entire game. I wish that all the game was as good as this piece of musical art. Love and respect from Russia.
шикарное музло
This is amazing. I mean, damn
This speaks to me soul
This song consumed all my burbon
i am desperate to find other songs like this (other than those in the ost)
Ok, I just watched the the Gary Cooper 'The Hanging Tree' and this song fits the ending.
Great soundtrack man, did you produce this masterwork?
Thank you! Yeah, Ryan is the composer for all the music from the OST, and I performed all the guitars, vocals, mandolins, and a few other instruments on different songs. Glad you enjoy the tune!
I always see the riders as Wayne and the others
anyone got the words? amazing piece
Thank you! If you expand the video description, the lyrics are in there : )
Ryan Ike thank you Ike, really good job
I like Ike
I'm pretty sure the white rider and the rest of his horsemen are a metaphor for death. What do you guys think?
It is, definitely. This song is many things, subtle is not one of them.
When you met the White Rider in the game, he's pretty much presented as yet another avatar of death
Revelation 6:8 "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."
It's a reference to the fourth horseman of the apocalypse.
Revelation 6:2 (ASV) And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer.
iPhone sent his song when time and all the sudden a little frog just hopped on my shoulder
Your comics suck and I know I'm talking to myself cuz this was a different account than I made so hello me
Is this song about drug overdose or am I thinking too much into it?
The latter.
The OST is the only good thing about this pos game.
Nah the whole game is pretty good :D
this game is made a bit more interesting after Death Stranding since they can be contrasted as to how to make an open world walking simulator that works
Really good song, but "course locked on to mine" nearly ruins it for me, terrible anachronism. I also get squicked out when he sings about waters and the sea in vagrant song. I'm coastal too, but jesus man it's a cowbo game
Lock on comes from train tracks no?
@@luska5522 I thought it was from mechanical fire control systems, but I don't know for sure. I always assumed it was one of those phrases that became popular in the postwar period
@@Cassiuswasright You can "lock on" a course when you move the train track lever, changing the direction the train is going.
But i dont know for sure
@@Cassiuswasright necro post, but "locked on" means to be attached to a specified target as a lock would its latch. so locked on can simply mean focusing down a specified thing like a regular lock does focus on controlling a latch.
“Locked on” refers to actual locks, like, “seems you’ve got a lock on things” simply means you’ve got good control on this situation, or, in this case, he’s locked on and in control to get to his destination.
As for Vagrant Song, you do realize there’s more to the West than simply deserts, right? A vagrant could easily see the sea, I know it might sound crazy, but many people in the west came from other countries, from, you know, the sea?
