Wow, this game brought back a lot of memories. I must say that out of all the Cluefinders games, this one was the creepiest mostly because of Malicia. She used to scare the crap out of me as a kid and she still gives me the creeps to a certain degree just how creepy and frightening she looks. So not the best childhood experience but it sure was a dark, suspensful and creepy one.
Yeah, it was a pretty dark one. The other thing I remember was the time on the gate challenge where there was four letters. I eventually exhausted so many guesses I ran out. When it changed I just got mad and typed "Fuck". "There are three correct letters in the right places." "There are no correct letters in the wrong places." The password was "Tuck".
Giving the amulet to their dog to bury? Not a bad idea. It's a good thing there isn't anybody underground that would have a chance of being exposed to the amulet. Like, I don't know, an underground empire of plant-people led by their next-door neighbor.
I both loved and hated this game when I was a kid. While I always liked the puzzles and music in the game, the atmosphere and setting (not to mention the CREEPY map screen) always made me question playing it. Looking at it now, I think it along with the 6th grade adventures may be the darkest game in the series.
This game is scary as hell. Got it when I was about 14 and to this day parts are freaking disturbing. Worst is when you search for the lava rock things and the monsters that come by...gives me the creeps
I just thought of a nice theory as to why they split up the Cluefinders this way: normally they do Owen and Leslie, and Joni and Santiago right? Well Leslie and Santiago have been shown to be the 'brains' of the team with Leslie and Owen being the 'brawn'. So this game shows that even though Leslie and Owen are the 'brawn' of the team they're still very smart. Even if it wasn't intentional I think that's a really nice thing The Learning Company did, especially since it proves that you can be both 'brain' and 'brawn' even if you favor one over the other.
Got scared a lot as a kid playing this game! Lots of scary moments and faces! Watching this play through after many years of not playing the game and I am still freaked out!
Are we going to ignore the fact that the evil princess was really about to burn Leslie and Santiago to death, by dropping them in boiling lava? Kids game right
***** thanks i was thinking of doing a LP of the cluefinders series but unfortunately i have a mac and the software plugins i get don't really help much
I wish they did too, 6th grade had level 4 be 7th grade level but that was it I don't know why they didn't do one for 7th and 8th.....maybe it's because the kids in the game WERE middle schoolers
I was 10 when I got this game along with 5th grade adventures. I loved it... not gonna lie it was pretty hard. But the relaxing atmosphere and music was what kept me playing
this is by far the hardest ClueFinders Game I ever played (The Gates of Mt Valdrock is where I always get stuck attempting to decipher the password similar to Mastermind only that you use letters instead of colours)
Chris Koraltan at least the acts of villainy in Search n Solvee are performed by orre realistically possible beings like man-made robots and humans themselves, rather than ALIENS, Humanoid/Plants and creatures from another planet! S&S may have had the spookiest n most complicated levels (hello Haunted House Maze!) but setting, characters, story n motive-wise they seem pretty sensible to me
actually, if you have a piece of paper, it's not as hard as it seems. have all the letters written down on the paper, and cross out the ones you know are wrong. if a 4-letter word gives you [0,0], then you already know that these are 4 letters you won't need (if you are completely guessing, that narrows your search from 26 letters to 22 letters) also all words use vowels, so if you can figure out which 1-3 of five vowels you need, that narrows your list of words further down. basic logic...these are just a few tips on how to find the right word easily
I don't really remember seeing the end of this game. I only remember up to the point where the word puzzle gate and the creepy talking goblin statues are.
The Learning Company made some amazing games!! Seriously, they are what I remember from my childhood - from Reader Rabbit to to Fisher Price to Carmen Sandiago to Cluefinders and everything in between. Really unfortunate that it ran into the ground after Kevin O'Leary bought out the company...
Owen: How do we free the Doldreks & Sorrens? Malveera: To free them, you must take on the challenges that lie there & you will gain a clue for each of the challenges you take on. Donga: But how many clues do we have to collect from them? Malveera: 20! You must collect all 20 of their clues in order to find the amulet. Donga: 20 clues!! That'll take forever! Owen: Don't worry, Donga! Relax! We're gonna collect 10 each from them. Joni: Owen's right! In fact, we'll collect those clues 5 at a time. LapTrap: 5 clues at a time! Wow! That sounds easy! Donga: Really easy, LapTrap! Oh-man, thought I was a worry dog after all! But can't we um---! Joni: No, Donga! We need those clues to find the amulet & save our friends! Malveera: And save this planet!
The developers always went with different settings for each game and I guess they chose a mountain setting and this game was also intended for older kids instead of the traditional grade school levels.
To bad there was not a real princess to. It would be nice for the princess and the cluefinders to team up together to defeat the evil sorceress malica.

Heaving Protoceratops!🐕
Finally found this! I must have gotten a flawed version of the game, since I never heard anything but music in the cut scenes. This was one of my favorite computer games as a kid, though one of the final levels did take me (and my mother) WAY too long.
OK, um...this might be awkward in retrospect, but for a Learning Games freak like me through grade school...did anyboy else think Joni got cuter as the games went on? I mean...dang. Of course, speaking as a mature adult, I respectfully adhere to the social and moral boundaries that schism any inappropriate desires towards not only a fictional, but potentially vastly underage female. Did they ever disclose her age?
+erictrygh Now, even though she and Santiago are in the same grade and the same age, Santiago's actually a bit taller than her. So, if they were older, Joni being 17 and Santiago being 18, then they'd be in college by now.
Desiree Purnell-Sandi Considering that these games were released in the 90s and that the kids were supposed to be 11 or 12, his would make them *well* beyond college age by now, actually... ;'( ahhhhh it's hard for me to think of my cluefinders all grown up.
+erictrygh Sorry, didn't mean to skip ahead grades. By college, I meant to say "high school". Besides, they've already found their own niche, and that's all grown-up in my case.
Been fucking years!!!! I finally found it, I thought It was just a fever dream, I miss this game so much, even now I consider this quite advanced considering when I played this back in elementary school
The series was losing steam with this game, but the English language activities were decently programmed and structured. I like the Math Adventure 9-12 better though.
You know, there is another breakout-style game in this game's counterpart 'ClueFinders Math Adventures', which has the exact same rules like in this game's.

Set wasn't really a surprise at that stage either, seeing as how you'd already met Isis, Horus, Bast, and Sobek. The fifth grade one had a great impact on the feelings. That was the surprise, and again, they foreshadowed it with the holes and the random loss of people. In six, the surprise that the plants were morally gray and trying to protect themselves from us was pretty awesome. I loved working with the people who we started off seeing as the Baddies. Set wasn't really a surprise at that stage either, seeing as how you'd already met Isis, Horus, Bast, and Sobek.
The fifth grade one had a great impact on the feelings. The Aliens were creepy and cannibalistic. The reunion was great. Knowing that the Island was a spaceship? That was the surprise, and again, they foreshadowed it with the holes and the random loss of people.
In six, the surprise that the plants were morally gray and trying to protect themselves from us was pretty awesome. I loved working with the people who we started off seeing as the Baddies. It was wonderful.
oh my god i'm so nostalgic for this, but it won't play on my 64 bit even in compatibility mode :(
