Well done. I know there are few who can appreciate what you’re doing, but it’s nice to see for those of us who do. Bravo to you for the courage to put yourself out there on video, seems like there are plenty of people ready to criticize. I guess every lock they make is under ideal conditions and they magically pilot themselves perfectly flat on the long wall every time. For the rest of us mere mortals, dealing with wind, current out draft, and draggy, mismatched tows, this will have to do.
That was really good, I was Wondering if sometimes you had to bump along The long wall until you start to get inside the short wall... This was a good viewpoint Seeing How/what you have to do compared to what’s going on Outside...!!
***** It is a great tool to use. I learned from paper charts before these electronic charts were out. I rely on them as much as any good tool. I can run without if needed.
What exactly are the deckhands reporting and how is the procedure can u explain I live up here in Cincy never been to a lock and i want to become captain on the M/v Aep Mariner so I kinda want to know what these deckhands are reporting
Lot's of indecision in and out of gear alot but just 3 barges thats pretty easy and yes the man calling out distance width and how far the short wall is done a damn good joband yes I've made J.T Myers several times in high water and high wind
Well if it's that way you do a great job of explaining flanking and yes that guy should have gotten a little deeper in the bend to flank to stay away from that dock. You do a good job I'm just making a comment not meaning to piss anyone off I've been on the river for 20 years and change so I've seen a lot and did a few things and yes I've been indecisive about a few things myself
Easy locking it looks like to me. I've been watching your vids the last week. I think you ought to tell the horsepower of each of these boats either in the title or mention it. I mean.. I have an old Inland River Record but I gotta jump UP. Ruins the show.
Keep a clean record and, in a couple of years, you could test for pilot on the lower Miss. It ain't easy, Honey: 1st question is draw, from memory, the route from entry to Miss delta to N.O. And then there's a big speed drfference: Big guys have to keep speed 16-22 kts for their rudders; of course, they all now have bow thrusters, but that won't slow you down. And there's the transfer via a ladder....
Good job Captain and crew. Enjoyed it. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️

Good job cap, come on over to the tennessee we need a relief captain lol
GREAT VIDEO!! Also would've been nice to have a top of the wheel house cam
CAPT. HE SAID (BULL NOSE) WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ????
Thanks for sharing. Can you explain what the shorter, top levers control ?
djhoosier those control flanking or backing rudders, in front of wheels/props. Lower ones are steering rudders, behind the wheels/props
marktwained Thanks
Right on the money!
Is that ol county as your mate lol
Too much reliance on the CEACT.
STC boat?

No problem. You did not witness indecision. You witnessed getting 108' wide of empties in wind inside a lock.
Not indecision, corrections. Good grief, if you don’t understand tow handling, reserve your comments for something you do comprehend.
