- Day in the life of a plumber
In todays video I swap out an old oil boiler for a new Worcester unit. I show you the draining down of the heating system, removing the old boiler, piping the plumbing and flue connections and commissioning the new boiler
As always, thanks so much for watching, all the support is greatly appreciated

I’m a licensed plumber in America (Indiana) I started watching and subbed a few weeks ago. I came to see the differences or similarities between the UK and America but have been surprised about the fact we have way more similarities in the way we do things than not. Same tools and all lol. You’re definitely a professional and glad that I came across your channel. 👍
I watch Steve lav on UA-cam and it is really nice to see how you guys do stuff, thanks for watching, I'm so pleased you are enjoying the videos
I watch the American v the Uk videos and the main difference is the regulations?
Steve lav and mickey pipes... I see alot of steam boilers and huge oil boilers still getting installed in parts of America.. Steve lav hates combination boilers... I think regs in America are alot more strict and also they use steele for gas rather than copper.
When Jacob sucked that mouse up and interrupted you made me howl !! 🤣🤣✌️✌️ Crackin' vid lad!
Thanks for the support as always mate, glad you enjoyed
Seems surprising to replace a knackered oil boiler with a new one - would’ve been ideal moment to install a heat pump - a bit more expensive to be sure, but lower running cost plus saving the planet!
Thanks for videoing this really interesting.
Thanks for the support Phil, glad you enjoyed
ground control to major Tom, the boilers flooded the heatings gone.....check ignition and may gas safes love be with you...... 🙏
Top work Tom
Thanks for the support as always James, hope you have a great weekend
Another very interesting video Tom , hope you are keeping well mate.
I am feeling much better now, hope you are well too, thanks for the support as always mate
Hi Tom get Jacob safety specs when soldering close.. one spec of solder in his eye God forbid!!!
He's got some, I should have told him to wear them, thanks for watching mate
Hi Tom, a nice job there as always, yep there are always a few problems that present them selves on most jobs.
Another nice installation Tom well done to Jacob and yourself, hope the customer was happy because their original boiler was clearly knackered.
Have a great weekend and as always take care mate. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always Chris, it's always when you think the jobs going alright, something crops up, have a great weekend 👍
Good install and good footage. What more do I need to take me into a weekend. This is compensation for 1🏴 🇩🇰 1. Glad you're winning Tom. Almost at 10k🎉 Get in
Thanks for the support as always mate, things can only get better in the football, hopefully 👍
I have seen loads of those warmflow boilers leak like that. Good job Tom
Thanks for the support as always Brian, there was certainly no saving this one, hopefully the new one lasts a good few years
Oil just seems filthy to work worth. Great video as always!
I think I prefer it to gas but I'm weird like that, thanks for watching as always Colin 👍
Great stuff, thanks
Thanks for the support as always mate
Great video Tom. Love the pet mouse 😁👍😎
Thanks for the support as always Pb, mice don't bother me, rats on the other hand give me the creeps
Hi Tom nice job as said by others, Jacob doing well leaning, one day he will be as good as you😁 nice to see you back on your feet you can tell with your voice and actions that your better😅
Thanks for the support as always mate, to be honest a lot of stuff he's better than me at, hopefully he stays as it hard to keep hold of good lads
Nice work lad’s got too watch does sharp edges on the cabinets or wear some gloves ?
👍👍👍👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👌🍺have a lovely weekend 👍
I really should wear gloves, thanks for the support as always Tom
No job ever goes smoothly does it Tom, that pump, what a pain, tidy job as always, take care. 🚽👍
Thanks for the support as always Peter, I'm never fitting another Dab pump, my supplier were selling them off cheap to get rid of them as they keep packing up, I shouldn't have taken the risk
isn't everything lovely with hindsite lol. lost track how many times thought be clever to use something cheaper, always bites you on the bum 😝
grant boilers have a push fit on top of their boilers on the flow
You are correct, they use those tecktite type fittings, I guess it all comes down to manufactures instructions, thanks for the support as always Kevin
Thanks for getting back you do a great job we got a grant combi to fit next week 4day job 👍
Gutted for you with the flue being so close. Great video as usual Tom. Like the wb oil boilers
I should have checked when I priced the job, you live and learn, thanks for watching as always mate
press fit near a boiler is probably more to do with thermal shock/sudden expansion of the pipes, could loosten the joint
It could well be, I've been meaning to check with some press manufacturers, my money's on them saying its down to the boiler manufactures, with the boiler manufactures saying it's down to the press fittings instructions, it's all about nobody wanting to take responsibility when these press fittings fail, thanks for watching as always Pete
Hey Tom, love the vids. What’s that socket set you are using?
It's just a cheap vonhaus set of Amazon, it has all the bits I need, it's lasted me a good few years so far, thanks for watching mate
🤘😎🤘
Thanks for the support as always Wayne, hope you have a great weekend
vaillant / glowworm have now said u can connect plastic directly to the boiler
Oh really, they always seem to keep changing stuff, I've seen the last couple of boilers jones the gas has done and he's soldering again. I need to check with Worcester as that's what I mainly fit, I have seen Worcester boilers done with press fit by other people, so I guess it should be ok, thanks for watching 👍
Xpress say there press fittings can stand up to 110 degrees Celsius. Who's saying that you can't install onto oil boiler?
We never stop learning Tom .those press fit may not like been to close to the boiler ..but what do the manafactorur say .
A very nice bit of work you both carried out there 👍👍👍
Can't account for everything in your quote. And then there is the extras that crop up .😯
Thanks for the support as always John, I need to check about the press fittings, my guess is they may pass the buck and say go with the boiler manufactures instructions, nobody will want to stick their head out and take responsibility incase anyone goes wrong
You get what you pay for these days ,good vid as usual
You certainly do, thanks for watching as always Tom 👍
Thats a warmflow, i can guarantee you now, thats not a leaking heat exchanger, its the way the condense runs, it backs up super easy on the secondary hex. Ive done hundreds of them like that. It usually leaks on bottom right hand corner on the outside of the boiler house
That had been checked, the condense went into a back inlet gulley outside with an air gap above the drain, as soon as you topped the pressure up water started leaking out the boiler. Like you I have seen many oil boilers with soaked burners due to condense lines backing up, particularly if they are connected into rain water, but this was definitely a split boiler, thanks for watching 👍
@@PlumbLikeTom yes but we always have an air gap, its to do the way the rubber sits on the secondary hex.
@@Purebeltersteve I see what you are saying, I didn't actually diagnose the boiler and was just asked to price for a replacement, the customer said every time they topped the boiler up water started leaking out, so I just assumed it was split
@@PlumbLikeTom your getting a new boiler out of it 😃. Woulda needed a new burner anyway and they are 200 odd quid.
I agree but I would never deliberately sell someone a new boiler if they didn't need one, I got this job lead through the Worcester site so I all did on this one is quote for a replacement.
And your one of them Tom
Thanks for the support as always Keith
heldite on oil fittings always
I used to use heldtite but every one on here moaned at me, if you look back at some of my old videos it was the thing people always had a go at me for, so I stopped using it, thanks for watching as always Dave
@@PlumbLikeTom why would they have a go about using heldite Tom? marvellous stuff which never fails
Top work once again but you do get the manky jobs
I prefer the manky jobs, I would sooner be working on stuff like this than on a nice white carpet, thanks for watching as always Darren
DAB pumps never,,,,,Tucson all the way
I'm never fitting another dab, Stuart Turner seem to be the most reliable for me, touch wood I've never been back to one and they really do shift the water
come play some xdfeiant or apex man miss you
Tom,do you know how many times you say Jacob during this video,it’s a lot, I bet he hates that,
Sorry about that, I never noticed, he probably does hate it, thanks for watching
why does everyone call vaillant 'vaillient'
I don't know, everyone round here calls them that, thanks for watching
Typical wetflow 😂
There not my favourite boilers, thanks for watching mate 👍
another good video m8t pity it cost you a flue and a pump but yes saves getting call backs 👌👌
I should have checked the thickness of the wall, normally a standard flue is fine for most jobs where they go straight out the back, thanks for watching as always 👍
