  • Waacking preliminary at a hip hop jam called Step Ya Game Up. Battles in wacking (whacking), popping, locking, hip hop and house all took place directly after this. This jam happened in New York City on July 25th from 2:00pm to 4:00am. Very cool and rare dance style to see in battle. Battles judged by Tyrone Proctor! Enjoy the footage :)
PLEASE HELP ME NAME THE DANCERS:
    1.) Prince Aus Ninja
    2.)
    3.) Sofiabulous
    4.)
    5.) Foxy Lou
    6.)
    7.)
    8.) Waackesha
    9.)

I respect anybody who does waacking because if you dont do it correctly it just looks like your throwing your arms around. I requires such control and these people in the video have my full respect. I started learning waacking several months a go and im not close mastering it yet so props to these dancers

I love watching this very dramatic style of dance, but can't help thinking about people dancing like this in clubs and getting WAACKED in the head by those flying arm movements. I'm guessing that's where it gets that name? LOL!

I have first watched this vid in 2009 at the time when it was posted. I don't know what is going on in US, but waacking scene in East Asia (including Korea, Japan, China) has grown so big that it is almost as big as that of popping and locking now. It is getting recognized as a disdinct style under the umbrella of funk styles, as popping and locking do. You can see Pop&Lock events are transitioning to Pop&Lock&Waack events nowadays. As a locker my self, it's nice that Funk Style is flourishing

Wacking was in the birth place in Los Angeles (west coast). Voguing was in the birth place in New York (east coast). Pretty much both styles are uniquely awesome and everyone does it! #WerQ!

and what is the difference between them.? as much as I've been trying to find the difference, it looks like both voguing and wacking foundation, dictionary, style, uniquenes, musicality and meaning are exsectly te same.
so could someone please explain me the difference, I would apreciate it a lot :)

      Andraž Prokofjev
Both dances emerged from gay club culture in the 70s, both women and men dance both waacking and vogue, although vogue is a lot more common now among gay men.
If you want a layman's difference, waacking is based more on Hollywood and character posing, it's about imitating the styles of Hollywood stars and posing to film in a very animated way. Vogue is more cosmopolitan, so it's about posing for the camera, It's more still and catwalk like, you know (Madonna) Strike a Pose.
Both styles are unique but also very interchangeable. If you watch this video and then concentrate on guy #20 near the end, he is using a bigger mixture of vogue in his waacking than everyone else, compared to especially the black women who are a lot more soulful and fluid, he's accentuating the pose and striking lot more.
The dances are very different today, but you can essentially go from waacking to vogue no problems, they have very similar concepts and foundations, but their features are quite distinguishable.

@@SKY_art_dancer idk i see the difference pretty clearly, the element hand performance from vogue seems similar to wacking but there is a more femme energy in the movements compared to what your seeing here. Voguing also includes duck walking spins and dips and some other elements that really don't appear in wacking. both wacking and hand performance rely on structured movements with clear silhouettes and posing and all that stuff, but old way vouging didnt move at the same speed as wacking as it was more about the posing, while new way hand performance is a bit closer since its much faster then old way but the movements still have more of a femme energy too them. Idk i can see it, like even the girls wacking here aren't doing it as femme as the people who vogue hand performance since its not just in the hand movements but also the body. Voguing has a lot of over exaggeration of the hips. i would just watch the fennty rihanna video of leiomy and just see how much more femme she moves and all the movement types she implements that arent present in this video(namely spins, hair flips, dips) the last go tho is deff dipping into some vogue esque movements

believe it or not, waacking is a dance developed by men for men. Women do it too, but it originally was started by men. Both straight and gay men do this dance. It just means that they are very comfortable and confident in their own skin, since that is what waacking is all about.
