- Waacking preliminary at a hip hop jam called Step Ya Game Up. Battles in wacking (whacking), popping, locking, hip hop and house all took place directly after this. This jam happened in New York City on July 25th from 2:00pm to 4:00am. Very cool and rare dance style to see in battle. Battles judged by Tyrone Proctor! Enjoy the footage :)
PLEASE HELP ME NAME THE DANCERS:
1.) Prince Aus Ninja
2.)
3.) Sofiabulous
4.)
5.) Foxy Lou
6.)
7.)
8.) Waackesha
9.)
10.)
I respect anybody who does waacking because if you dont do it correctly it just looks like your throwing your arms around. I requires such control and these people in the video have my full respect. I started learning waacking several months a go and im not close mastering it yet so props to these dancers
I love watching this very dramatic style of dance, but can't help thinking about people dancing like this in clubs and getting WAACKED in the head by those flying arm movements. I'm guessing that's where it gets that name? LOL!
Everytime I feel sad I come back here.
Every time I come here I feel sad!
DAMN! GREEN dress, Zebra print and Air Hostess Stripes KILLED it!!!! :) so amazing!
Green dress: Sofiabulous, Zebra: Ebony a.k.a Axelle, air hostess stripe: Waackeisha.
I have first watched this vid in 2009 at the time when it was posted. I don't know what is going on in US, but waacking scene in East Asia (including Korea, Japan, China) has grown so big that it is almost as big as that of popping and locking now. It is getting recognized as a disdinct style under the umbrella of funk styles, as popping and locking do. You can see Pop&Lock events are transitioning to Pop&Lock&Waack events nowadays. As a locker my self, it's nice that Funk Style is flourishing
I'm sorry but I've just found about this dance style from a few STREETSTAR competition videos and this video and I MUST say that this looks like the most fun, enjoyable street dance I've ever witnessed and I would honestly *MUCH* prefer to learn how to do this over vogueing so SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME THANK YOU I LOVE YOU!!! MWAH!!!
How I feel when I'm doing a Z-move in Pokémon Moon
God, this was beautiful. Very passionate. I could feel the energy just from this video. I can't imagine what it must've been to actually be there.
Wacking was in the birth place in Los Angeles (west coast). Voguing was in the birth place in New York (east coast). Pretty much both styles are uniquely awesome and everyone does it! #WerQ!
and what is the difference between them.? as much as I've been trying to find the difference, it looks like both voguing and wacking foundation, dictionary, style, uniquenes, musicality and meaning are exsectly te same.
so could someone please explain me the difference, I would apreciate it a lot :)
Andraž Prokofjev
Both dances emerged from gay club culture in the 70s, both women and men dance both waacking and vogue, although vogue is a lot more common now among gay men.
If you want a layman's difference, waacking is based more on Hollywood and character posing, it's about imitating the styles of Hollywood stars and posing to film in a very animated way. Vogue is more cosmopolitan, so it's about posing for the camera, It's more still and catwalk like, you know (Madonna) Strike a Pose.
Both styles are unique but also very interchangeable. If you watch this video and then concentrate on guy #20 near the end, he is using a bigger mixture of vogue in his waacking than everyone else, compared to especially the black women who are a lot more soulful and fluid, he's accentuating the pose and striking lot more.
The dances are very different today, but you can essentially go from waacking to vogue no problems, they have very similar concepts and foundations, but their features are quite distinguishable.
@@classicmail8239 Thank you for this answer. :)
@@classicmail8239 Waacking refers to the flailing of the arms, as if whacking at things.
@@SKY_art_dancer idk i see the difference pretty clearly, the element hand performance from vogue seems similar to wacking but there is a more femme energy in the movements compared to what your seeing here. Voguing also includes duck walking spins and dips and some other elements that really don't appear in wacking. both wacking and hand performance rely on structured movements with clear silhouettes and posing and all that stuff, but old way vouging didnt move at the same speed as wacking as it was more about the posing, while new way hand performance is a bit closer since its much faster then old way but the movements still have more of a femme energy too them. Idk i can see it, like even the girls wacking here aren't doing it as femme as the people who vogue hand performance since its not just in the hand movements but also the body. Voguing has a lot of over exaggeration of the hips. i would just watch the fennty rihanna video of leiomy and just see how much more femme she moves and all the movement types she implements that arent present in this video(namely spins, hair flips, dips) the last go tho is deff dipping into some vogue esque movements
Ms. Zebra Coat is fierce as Hell!!!!
This old! My girls and I used to do these moves in the 80's
shut up
How cool!
they went hard, nobody's going home
Man that 6th dancer! I felt her dancing through the screen. She dances so passionately!
4:09 Dude tore it the fuck up!
yes, in every style - this is the prelims / selections for the battles.
Tecktonik actually comes from a mixture of waacking and vougeing :)
do you maybe know which tehnique comes from what style.? :)
The name is Waacking, and the first guy is me my name is Aus Hello lol, Im from the imperial house of waacking our website will be up very soon so stay tuned
Kill 'em Garnet!
OMG YES
I've started to learn waacking just because of her!!!!❤💙
I remember the first time I saw a waacking video...I just thought the dance was weird. And now I think it's amazing. I want to learn lol
Wacking is way harder than it looks, love it XD
Still watching in 2018!
"Paris Is Burning" is a documentary about the NY ballroom scene. The dance you can see there is Voguing. This is Waacking. It's not to be mixed up. Peace
This dancing reminds me of blends of voguing and 80 dancing in ny york clubs, only new yorkers understand that kind of dancing
Tia Atwell waaking was made in LA tho
Voguing came more than a decade after Waacking and was made in LA like Luis stated
@@Ell.06 Wrong, voguing began long ago.
As others have stated- waacking began in LA in disco era clubs, meanwhile vogueing was happening in balls in nyc in the same era. Do we think those two blurred and borrowed from each other? You bet- but do only New Yorkers understand? No.
the first guy is Prince Aus Ninja, and number 8 is Waackeisha, both from the Imperial House of Waacking
Ok get it dancing that looks classy. I love it. ❤️❤️❤️
@4iiii word. Its hard to post up these clips because most people don't get it :(
interesting. i have never heard or seen this kind of dance before. it is pretty sick.
Cheryl Lynn - star love
Mr T got some Waacking skills!
"Star Love" by Cheryl Lynn.
Big ups to Papadakis and Cizeron for reminding me of this OG Westcoast "Vogue."
Everyone in ths vid was awesome. Much respect. Peace and Love.
Thanks for uploading this onto youtube, the song sounds like a Cheryl Lynn song
o yea and for the guy who said they took vogue, Waacking was way before the vogue became a dance, waacking already was being done on the west coast, lets do our history deeper, the history along with videos from the original waack dancers from the early 70s will be on the website
Me at 3 am after eating all the Shreeded Cheese in the house
no problem - its rare to see waacking in battle yet at all, so just givin a little window to the world to see what does dowwn :)
I was not feeling that 2nd girl, but when that bitch with the fringe came out after her, slammed her sequined beanie down, I was brought back to LIFE. *RESURRECTED*.
I FINALLY found out the reason behind that second girl. She went in there with some damn _sneakers_. Bitch what are you, a *man*!? At least grab a pair of pumps and wear them, it's only for like 3 minutes!
👏👏👏 life.
the dancer who dance from 3:41 to 4:09 is so fierce, so strong and determined! LOVE IT!
Thank you! Finally somebody who is making sense :) people who know vogue only from ABDC and think they can state something about the history/influence/whatever of Waacking and Voguing are a little disturbing to me... btw I love your videos!!
Legit. I'm a Bboy,
Music is Music
and
Dancing is Dancing
However way you do it, just kill that beat!. Dope.
waacking is a necessity
Star Love by Cheryl Lynn...my grandma used to play it all the time when i was little lol.
believe it or not, waacking is a dance developed by men for men. Women do it too, but it originally was started by men. Both straight and gay men do this dance. It just means that they are very comfortable and confident in their own skin, since that is what waacking is all about.
Steven Universe brought me here
Haha same here
GARNET RULES
The Chefette lol same
OMGoodness same! Channel Frederator mentioned this being Garnet's dance style so I googled it and this was the second result! I'm absolutely in love with this dance style now :D
fuck you
This dance started out in the gay dance clubs in LA/Hollywood. It's really similar to locking in a way.
oh no!! i accidentally clicked the 1 star but i really liked it!
The first and last girl I liked the best. They were all good and I'm inpressed that most of the girls could do that in heels. But the heels did seem to impair some of them though, like their feet had to be planted. Still that last girl was a beast.
100% YAAAAAAAS! I got my life with this video!
waacking started before voguing.
It's a totally different style of dance.
Both have different origins, waacking came from a style called posing in the 1970's, voguing originated from reading, shade and runway in the 1980's.
Really looks like he's guiding an aeroplane into land :D
@thebrianianday They can't waack but they can whack. There shouldn't be haters. This is pure elegance!
hobi likes when girls dance waaking
***** yes same😂
me tooo😂😂
Literally the reason why I looked up wacking XD
wooooow...the second guy is kid boogie from machine gone funk...I knew that he could pop(amazingly) and lock but wacking...I had no freaking idea:)
That guys has MOVES!
Never heard of Waacking. Cool stuff.
that girl from 2:40 ROCKED!
@Sw88tie Actually gays where the first to do this dance style in cali back in the 70s. Soul Train started in chi town then moved to cali. So that explains why you seen alot of simular moves. Also some locking moves where taken from wacking and made to look more masculine.
HAHAHAHAHA never seen this style of dancing, but the ladies look good doing it.
looks so classy, like contemporary mixed with tecktonik ahahahah
my favorite was the girl in the black shorts and tied button up! =)
That's really cool, but I just don't understand it.. Is there like a form involved or are they just improvising?
Is this what they did down the soul train lines? It looks very similar.
no, its waacking :)
haha i like how almost everyone in the background has a serious pose with the hands on their hips.
looks like tectonic mixed with a lil vogue
thanks for the load bro
@4iiii wacking is like the sister dance to pop locking me personally i prefer it over pop locking though cause its puts more speed power and movement into it
I once walked too close to a person Waacking Dancing.. Long story short I ended up in a wheelchair with major bruises on my face and side.
