Let's play Aven Colony! Luke and Ellen learn that governing a utopian space city isn't as easy as it sounds. Well, not when the colonists keep INSISTING on luxuries like air and food, anyway. Enjoy!
You guys are awsome! You made me want this game... Now I need this game more than anything else and my life would be complete! And Please Keep Doing Gameplays!
Just as the gods have voiced their disappointment with lightning from the sky, Oxtra noticed that they won the referendum and any lesson was promptly forgotten.
So,Oxboxford doesn't have water, and Vanaar has no food or air... You die from loss of water before food, but you die even faster from no air... Decisions, decisions.
30:03 Whilst our leaders pat themselves on the back for winning the majority vote, a lightning bolt strikes, causing a great fire. Congratulations on the win! You definitely... earned it?
The nerevarine would've spaced anyone doubting the will of their God. The nerevarine would also keep making that amalur let's play. And maybe conscript Mr.Channell to make a summercar series.
Thinking back, when I played Age of Empires 1.... I would have to have a lot of villagers to build stuff, but then I would send them out to war because the population cap was reached and I needed different units... I must not have been the nicest ruler.
The Spongy Mallard nah that's just civilization building 101. After your workers finish their job constructing, you send them off to fulfill their destiny.. By throwing themselves headlong at the enemy to make a tiny dent in their military strength, and allow room for other more useful units to take their place.
Luke making a museum for ships and dinosaurs makes sense. Dinosaurs were famously the ships of the Cretaceous, and an enthusiast like Luke would know that Admiral Nelson's most used nicknames were "the Ankylosaur of the British Navy" and "Ol' Sauropod".
It sucks for the wind turbine employees because they need to walk through the solar panel area to get to work, and it sucks for the solar panel employees because you got a bunch of "Windees" running through your work space, tracking wind everywhere!
I bought this game based on your Let's Play :) Just finished the Platinum trophy!! Great game. Challenging and fun. Only downside is once my colonies got to a certain size the game would first slow down and then eventually crash and need to be reloaded.
"If this is an Earth History Center built by Luke, there's going to be about 50% of it dedicated to ships. "And a lot of it on dinosaurs." "Yeah, dinosaurs and ships." Now we know who Dino Crisis 3 was made for...
Luke has pretty high priorities, none of them concerning the population, haha Next time Ellen should play, would certainly be a better mayor : ) Also, #letEllencontinueplayingKoA
Just platinumed this - shared a pic to the Aven Colony page on facebook. Nice simple city builder. The only really tough part was getting the 5 sol trophy on Vanaar.
3:40 Last I knew, the vertical wind turbine design was optimal. Less dangerous for birds and more compact. It was based off of schools of fish. Don't know if that research ever went anywhere.
So I just found out that "Surviving Mars" is coming out on all platforms (well, not the Switch) tomorrow (March 15th). It's another space colony sim, with a bit more Science in its Fiction than Aven Colony. I have seen a couple of previews, and it looks really interesting. Have you had a look at it?
Did anyone else notice the explosion caused by the lightning near the end. Those poor unfortunate souls protesting about the commute were zapped into oblivion. Protests did not continue as the populace believed Luke and Ellen had developed a weather weapon.
Luke: "Let's build a coliseum, that'll make the people happy and deal with the population problem!" Ellen: "Let's double check the placement of our water pump so our civilians get the most water possible." ...Well, I know who I want in charge of my colony. :P
The Westaway Terran History Museum: composed of 40% ships, 30% dinosaurs, and 30% Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You know, the important bits of our history.
Wind power, at least here in the states, sadly causes the deaths of birds and bats. So much so that carcass drop zones are marked with flags, endangered species permits required, as well as a process required to dispose of the carcasses. Hopefully the wind turbines of Aven have developed a way to divert flying animals around them, not through them.
Luke when you control a Let's Play, is it your go to tactic, in the first 5-10 seconds, to zoom in on the cutest thing you can see to get Ellen's buy in to the video?
I'm not sure if Luke and Ellen didn't notice or chose to ignore, but in the last minute that looked as if lighting struck a building and it caught fire. Clearly they are being smote for their actions.
Everyone's dying of starvation & thirst, but it's OK because with the excellent level of air filtration, you almost can't smell the decomposition of the surrounding corpses.
The part of this style of games that drive me mad is I either need all building touching with no tunnels, or no building touching and an intersection at every turn.
18:45 I was watching the range on that thing when you built it Luke and wondered why you didn't include the cargo pod, because that's what you wanted in the first place.
OutsideXtra gets told that winter is coming and farms don't produce anything in Winter but greenhouses do, proceeds to make more Farms to try to get food in winter, I like their stubbornness.
I'm pretty sure "18 Pasta" means Pasta enough for 18 people. So now we know that between them Luke and Ellen can consume enough pasta to to feed 1 1/2 basketball teams
"...we are getting the hang of this." says Luke. "oh yeah look how happy everyone is." says Ellen. 20 seconds later "oh look they are protesting." "ah just ignore the protesters"
Luke: Look at the size of it, it's amazing! Ellen: It's magnificent! Luke: It doesn't seem to matter where we stick this... Ellen: Propably don't put it in the hole Luke: People are gonna go nuts if we put it in their gardens...
I love how when it comes to municipal development Outside Xbox are the corrupt politicians building statues in honor of themselves, and Outside Xtra are just inept builders who're more focused on candy and pasta. The outcome is pretty much the same though...
I'm getting REALLY nervous now that both OutsideXbox and Ouside Xtra have shown what they'd do if they were in charge. Guess I'll be moving to wherever Luke and Ellen are in charge after the takeover.
Why was Luke's first thought about placing food storage "I need to put this far away from any people who might rise up against me"? Is this foreshadowing the dictatorship he intends to instate over this poor colony?
Let's play Aven Colony! Luke and Ellen learn that governing a utopian space city isn't as easy as it sounds. Well, not when the colonists keep INSISTING on luxuries like air and food, anyway. Enjoy!
Outside Xtra You two are so cute together.
You guys are awsome!
You made me want this game...
Now I need this game more than anything else and my life would be complete!
And Please Keep Doing Gameplays!
Noticed you cunningly placed the wind-turbine between the solar panel and the sun. Take that science!
the people should be happy they have air at all
protesters:the dust particles in the air is making me dizzy
mayor:i know how to solve the power crysis the power of nature.
The mayor was found dead later that evening
"I didn't know this was a democracy! I wouldn't have done half the things I did!"
Aeron Martin Basically the U.K. after the renaissance
The USA's current government has forgotten this lesson.... O_O
Theresa May's attittude
"Stop protesting!"-Luke Westaway, future dictator
USA isnt a democracy though.
One of my favorite channels easily
D'aw shucks!
It's Ellen attempting a south western accent.
Outsidexbox: Plays City Skylines as all powerful mayors.
Outside Xtra: Hold my tea.
Ayan Haider "Hold my tea." !!! 😂😂😂
Oxtra has a Skylines video as well now...
I come back to this video once in a while and I love re-reading this comment. This is my favourite ever comment.
"cold snap coming, everyone into the pub". One of the most British things you'll ever hear
Definitely "one of" - I figure the singing at the end is probably the MOST British.
"We're good colonists" said the Englishman :b
Benny Kwaakwah We were the best ones, apart from the Kekistanis.
Just as the gods have voiced their disappointment with lightning from the sky, Oxtra noticed that they won the referendum and any lesson was promptly forgotten.
"What does the green arrow mean?"
It means you have failed this city! : )
Well, there's a lot of Crime there so...
Luke, Ellen, you have failed this Colony!
Nice...
Eheheheheh.. very clever my friend, very clever..
Is this what the citizens of oxboxford do in the future?
Catz Rock Citizens of pcboxford are probably dead from a lack of water by now
They've evolved and are now living in Oxboxextraford.
Oh, it's funny you think they'd be allowed to leave Oxboxford to begin with.
future!?! what made you think they HAD a future/ They're probably dead by now (or worse)
Should have learned from Oxboxford Mayors - they would have crushed the protesters before at the first rumbling of discontent
And demolished their houses
Luke Westaway: "I wouldn't have been a tyrannical despot if I'd known this was a democracy!"
Really, Luke? Really?
cheesegirls now, now, he's hardly Jane. He would have been a tyrannical dictator, not a despot.
He's a fast learner though, and one day the apprentice becomes the master. Jane better keep her lightsaber handy.
Jane also better watch her six, because a maliciously giggling Ellen is waiting for her time to strike
So,Oxboxford doesn't have water, and Vanaar has no food or air... You die from loss of water before food, but you die even faster from no air... Decisions, decisions.
I love how you won when the lightning struck your colony.
"Referendum won! I take it all back, we did great! Woohoo!", says Luke, not realizing a lightning storm has just destroyed all his farms.
30:03 Whilst our leaders pat themselves on the back for winning the majority vote, a lightning bolt strikes, causing a great fire.
Congratulations on the win! You definitely... earned it?
Needs more food in the winter - builds farms that produce NOTHING in the winter. LoL
I KNOW! It's why they had no food to start with! I was like " you paid attention to the winter right????"
They also left immigration as a priority while the people they already had were starving. Not the best bit of planning, there! XD
The nerevarine would've spaced anyone doubting the will of their God.
The nerevarine would also keep making that amalur let's play.
And maybe conscript Mr.Channell to make a summercar series.

Start of video: "We're getting the hang of this aren't we?" End of video: "Lets make sure no one suffocates"
Did anybody else notice those buildings go on fire at 30:04 after the lightening hit? We'll just ignore that, shall we? xD
Dimi Asparouhova They won the election right at that moment. Lol. Totally ignored the burning building
Those colonists complaining about air quality are lucky they don't live in Oxboxford, their homes would have been destroyed immediately.
Justin Leong hehehehehehh
That's some Strong and Stable Government there! :)
When life gives you melons, trade them for porridge!
'Build some food'
Oh look its a Wellen! After almost a month of Illen its finally good to see (hear) a Wellen again
I love that Luke just casually states that he and Ellen are king and queen. So much for democracy I guess lol
Daniel Diaz well when you're from the UK you automatically think kings and queens instead of other leader types.
It sucks for the wind turbine employees because they need to walk through the solar panel area to get to work, and it sucks for the solar panel employees because you got a bunch of "Windees" running through your work space, tracking wind everywhere!
Which level of the bar is the Commander Shepard Dance School?
luke & ellen: let's build a utopia and call it oxtopia!
also luke & ellen: [does the exact oposite]
"We're really good at this! Oh look, protests!"
Don't worry about the bar's name. We can just pretend it says Kipper's Bar and Grill.
We all know that the protesters would mysteriously disappear from the colony one by one in Jane's version of the play through...
That was hilarious
"Just put on your boots and go over here"
I bought this game based on your Let's Play :) Just finished the Platinum trophy!! Great game. Challenging and fun. Only downside is once my colonies got to a certain size the game would first slow down and then eventually crash and need to be reloaded.

I'd like to trade 100 melons...for a day with Ellen playing video games!!!
im not even half way in and all i can think is "guys guys.... your water is dropping really fast... guys. man i wish they could hear me"
6:04 "So much purpose. Not much freedom" describes both Space Luke and Earth Luke.
Just platinumed this - shared a pic to the Aven Colony page on facebook. Nice simple city builder. The only really tough part was getting the 5 sol trophy on Vanaar.
It's very interesting to see how supreme dictator Luke and moral advisor Ellen run things.
Please make this a Let's Play series. This was amazing
3:40 Last I knew, the vertical wind turbine design was optimal. Less dangerous for birds and more compact. It was based off of schools of fish. Don't know if that research ever went anywhere.
"The Cheese Attic" might be the best name for a bad club ever.
When i started the video, I thought this colony would be different than Oxboxford. Boy, was I mistaken!
Video given a good laugh when I needed one! Thanks guys!
Did anyone else notice the explosion caused by the lightning near the end. Those poor unfortunate souls protesting about the commute were zapped into oblivion. Protests did not continue as the populace believed Luke and Ellen had developed a weather weapon.
8:25 I love the look of green energy.
Luke: "Let's build a coliseum, that'll make the people happy and deal with the population problem!"
Ellen: "Let's double check the placement of our water pump so our civilians get the most water possible."
...Well, I know who I want in charge of my colony. :P
The Westaway Terran History Museum: composed of 40% ships, 30% dinosaurs, and 30% Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You know, the important bits of our history.
Game Dev: what if we made Tropico, but in... SPACE! (insert space clip here-you know the one)
Guys, didn't you learn from Oxboxford? Just because you're in space doesn't mean the people won't change their whiny, illogical ways!
Create a colony that can support an Earth history center
Did Andy write that objective?
You should make this a series
'Yeah, dinosaurs and chips'
But what about ships. That's some important history.
I love Ellen and Luke... but this put my OCD in overdrive! What a mess, no wonder they were all protesting at the end!
Maybe you can put in a historical exhibit for cities that were doomed, like Jamestown, Atlantis, Pompeii, and Oxboxford.
I'm not sure if Luke and Ellen didn't notice or chose to ignore, but in the last minute that looked as if lighting struck a building and it caught fire. Clearly they are being smote for their actions.
"Hmm I think we're good colonists"
OXtra: 2017
For someone so into ships, I'm surprised you didn't find a better word for varying wind strength other than... Blowier
Luke: More cool buildings, or food? Ellen (immediately): Buildings. I can see you guys are gonna make this worse than Janesville!
"Oppressive and Totalitarian"
I would expect nothing less!
1:51 in and suddenly they're playing Sim City. Some things never change, bless them.
- 30:04 Lightning strike sets fire to part of the colony
- Luke completely ignores this... 'Referendum won!'
18:45 I was watching the range on that thing when you built it Luke and wondered why you didn't include the cargo pod, because that's what you wanted in the first place.
I would not have guessed that Luke would ever be called tyrannical in any capacity, but here we are. 🥺
I think the takeaway here is that Luke should not be world leader.
And neither Luke nor Ellen noticed that a fire broke out at 30:04 xD
Damn it, now I want the OX Crew to play Civ. I imagine Jane and Gandhi would get along rather well.
ellen: it'll be fine if we put wind turbine by solar panel
xtra: *proceeds to put massive wind turbine that casts a shadow over the solar panel*
I could watch hours of you two playing this :)
And thus, the OXtra crew learns that most dystopian regimes start as a well intentioned utopia.
I think they missed something about the farms and winter. That is why there was no food.
This reminds me of the catastrophe of a small town Mike, Jane, & Andy were the mayors of.
OXtra intro is love OXtra intro is life
Came across this video a bit late but... Totally buying it. There should be an OxtraStore or something... 10% finders fee now if you do!
"...we are getting the hang of this." says Luke. "oh yeah look how happy everyone is." says Ellen. 20 seconds later "oh look they are protesting." "ah just ignore the protesters"
At 19:41 we can observe the exact moment which scientists refer to as "everything going to hell"
10:20 Was that Ellen singing "New Mission" or in the game? Next level love if Ellen! ❤
Luke: Look at the size of it, it's amazing!
Ellen: It's magnificent!
Luke: It doesn't seem to matter where we stick this...
Ellen: Propably don't put it in the hole
Luke: People are gonna go nuts if we put it in their gardens...
Space Tropico. I love that.
Did you guys just stop at the moment the lightning struck? I saw that little tunnel blown up :(
It's so adorable how Ellen cares for the colonists...you should really play RimWorld and drive that attitude out of her.
@30:03 "It was supposed to be idyllic." As flames erupt in the background.
THIS WAS AMAZING CAN'T WAIT FOR PART 2
If my roommates traded all of the melons for porridge, I would be pretty irate, too.
I love how when it comes to municipal development Outside Xbox are the corrupt politicians building statues in honor of themselves, and Outside Xtra are just inept builders who're more focused on candy and pasta. The outcome is pretty much the same though...
I definitely heard "Eden Prime" on that intro screen. I was imagining a very different set of problems. :-P
So the main takeaway I have from this video is - Outside Xtra will work for food.
I'm getting REALLY nervous now that both OutsideXbox and Ouside Xtra have shown what they'd do if they were in charge. Guess I'll be moving to wherever Luke and Ellen are in charge after the takeover.
Am I the only one that glanced at the the title and thought it was alien colonial marines I had truly thought that oxtra had gone mad
Why was Luke's first thought about placing food storage "I need to put this far away from any people who might rise up against me"? Is this foreshadowing the dictatorship he intends to instate over this poor colony?
