Thanks, Fantastic Plastic Model company isn't big on the radar screen but they make some very good quality kit's. They have some of the hard to find scifi models that aren't being made by the mainstream companies. Cool stuff.
Nice build. I'm the person that contacted Allen Ury of Fantastic Plastic about making this kit and let him know where he could find the original blue-prints for the screen used saucer.
Great model. I was thinking to make a diorama build with this one, recreating the scene in which the characters look over the crashed frozen one surrounded by ice. Wonder if anyone ever done that before
Thanks for the quick response Boyd. I'll give a try and hope that my scratch building skills are up to par. Keep up the great work you do on Trek Works and The Model Shop Guys with Sir Sandsalot.
Nice job. when I was young, I always thought that the crew of the flying saucer was killed off just like the arctic outpost. I thought the last surviving crewmen did what he could to save the earth by purposefully changing course to hit Antarctica at the last moment. It's strange the things that kids come up with to fill in the blanks.
Nice take. Yeah, I pondered the origins of this creature forever. I thought it was possible that it had been a military weapon, but that idea always bored me. The notion, however, of a planet where something like this could actually exist was far more frightening. And what if it wasn't really the dominant species on that planet? Can you imagine a world where this thing is not the top predator? Oof!
Just subd. Very nice! I'm wanting to build a scratch model of a saucer craft. I have built scratch plank on frame sailing ships and want to use the same method for a flying saucer can you suggest any materials i could use?
Hey Boyd it looks great just like all your work. When you reviewed that model I went ahead and ordered my own but it wasn't until you started building it that you discovered a flaw in it. Mine has it too, the grill that the lights revolve around was short by an inch or so and didn't go completely around. How did you correct that?
SCO Mike That's a bummer Mike. I thought that maybe this kit had that gap in the rings because it is a prototype that was put out before the production kits.I corrected the issue by scratch building the missing section from .040 sheet styreneand cutting out the slots for the outer spokes. I used putty to blend in the patch.
Sorry, I had some pictures but they got lost over time. You ust have to drill out the holes to fit the LED's in all the way around the circle. It takes some time and patience.
I used some pictures of the model they filmed for the movie for reference and I think my ship came out as close as you can get to the original although a bit smaller.
Excellent work, guys, that looks fantastic!

Did you end up creating this? I ask because I found a picture online last night where someone did. I was just wondering if it was you.
Thanks for the quick response Boyd. I'll give a try and hope that my scratch building skills are up to par. Keep up the great work you do on Trek Works and The Model Shop Guys with Sir Sandsalot.

Hi Boyd, I am working on The Thing Flying Saucer to. Do you have any pictures or video on how you put the lights in the model?
Thank you.

Do you know if this is an exact replica of the flying saucer?
I used some pictures of the model they filmed for the movie for reference and I think my ship came out as close as you can get to the original although a bit smaller.
