Your right about the modules being different on dervs and petrols on some models, particularly the Bimmers. Two differences spring to mind. Aux electric heater and no Idle increase when A/C compressor turned on with the derv versions.
You almost always make the right call Luis and, let's not forget, you do more than most. I would have called a bad module after power, ground and COMM. Doesn't mean that I am always right.
As alternators age, the ripple increases. So when you jump start cars together, that's when you get issues as the regulators on both alternators try to increase / decrease together. I fitted an ultracapacitor bank to reduce ripple spikes when cranking engine and prolong life of battery. Now when you crank, voltage will drop from 12.1v to 10v, at which point alternator starts working and rather than instant 14.4v, as the ultracapacitor charges, the voltage only slowly rises up.
Majority of the newer cars, with smart charging, do that already anyway... They don't just jump straight to 14v... On older cars that might make some sense... 👍👍👍
Hi I have this same problem. But there is no voltage to the plug but the no 12 fuse isn’t blown….. Any ideas where to check next ? Or where I can locate a wiring diagram. Thanks

Since you have seen the internals of these, could you answer a quick question. Could you swap just the board from a donor without any issues.. keeping the exact part number of course. I'm asking cos most 2nd hand parts have a ton of scratches, and it would be nice if you could just quickly swap a board in.

Hello brother, I had exactly the same problem and also the maps were not used at the same time. Do you know what is the reason?
It says on the screen (no navigation module connected)
Could be just a coincidence...
But check if those two have anything in common... like a voltage supply, or something like that...

If they can’t figure out how to simply jump a battery, what makes you assume they can change one out correctly?
