  • A short HD film of the easy but classic "Bosigran Ridge" and homage to the superlative CC Count House Hut featuring kestrels, seals and sunsets in West Penwith, Cornwall. Often called Commando Ridge, it is a "mini-Alpine route by the sea" with great rock, exhilarating situations, a stunning location and surely the very best climb of its grade in the West Country. Anyway all constructive feedback or comments welcome and hopefully it will inspire a few folks to visit to this superb area, climb the route and stay in the hut! :-)

Wonderful - brings back memories of my one and only ascent of this route at the tender age of 71. The whole route is great but the first pitch, captured so well in the video, is superb.

+John Tranter thanks a million for taking the time to post your kind words and a great effort climbing Bosigran Ridge at 71 years young! Bear Grylls could learn a thing or 2 from you about how to climb the route properly... ;-) Cheers Dave

Extremely enjoyable! I did this in 78 with some uni friends, and yes, we stayed at the Count House. Also did a few easier grade Bosi main cliff climbs too. Been back many times since but for walking (I have relatives in the Zennor area) . Thank you - brought back many fond climbing memories and it is a well taken video too!

Lovely video. One for my wishlist before I get too old (though I've still got 7 years on the impressive 71 year old gentleman!). Numpty question..do you have to abseil into the start of the route?

Hi Chris I'm glad you enjoyed my wee video and the following regarding the approach (i.e. most people do a short ab) is a cut and paste from Rockfax: From the gearing-up ledge just up and left from a memorial plaque on the face of the ridge itself. Cross the ridge at the col via a short downclimb on its opposite side and follow a path down hill next to the ridge until steeper ground requires a steep downclimb or abseil from insitu slings. Continue down to sea level ledges and traverse smooth rock and ledges around the base of the ridge to a belay ledge. Cheers Dave

Great video! And a great route!
It was quite a stormy sea when I did it with my son, which added a bit of spice to P1,

Thanks a million for the positive vibes Chris and Bosi Ridge is a superb route, especially including P1 when low tide permits access! You may be interested in a BMC sea cliff safety vid featuring Bosi Ridge, in which I helped out with the aerial filming a couple of years ago:

Hi David, I'm not sure if you remember me but we crossed paths on the coastal path a number of years ago. I was hunting for yet more wild mushrooms (I know, same old jimmy), and we stopped and shared a pleasant exchange while my beloved wife wrestled a troublesome mushroom from a gnarled log. While she wrangled the tough little loafer from his hidy-hole, she happened to drop the lid of our most trustworthy of thermos, did you happen to find it? A long shot I know but that flask meant the world to our little ones. Take care!

Hi Jimmy I have a vague recollection of meeting you! I think it was a section of swcp in either North Devon near Baggy Point or maybe West Cornwall way? Anyway no sign or recollection of your thermos lid I'm afraid but happy shrooming to you! Cheers Dave
