- Triumph's 2024 Scrambler 900 is rowdy without being unrefined, beautiful without being gaudy, and thoroughly modern without being untrue to its heritage. So what's the problem?
I just hit 3000 miles and it took me only a few weeks. To say I can't stop riding it is an understatement. I'm addicted. But there's one small issue I just can't seem to get resolved...

I have a scrambler 900. It prefers premium unleaded fuel. Mine didn’t start first time before I used premium unleaded. You get better mpg with it too. It starts first time every time now.
Another fantastic video Bug and again triggering my fascination with the 900 Scrambler. I recently turned 70 and my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I texted her a picture of the Scrambler. She laughed but she didn't say no. I could buy one if I wanted but have hesitated. In part because I already have three motorcycles and two scooters. And in part because I don't need one. I'm just lusting after the beauty.
Your description of why you love it makes perfect sense to me. And all those minor annoyances are merely asking to accept the universe isn't perfect...
Regarding starting in the morning... you should borrow my W650 for awhile. Without fuel injection you'll be fiddling with the choke and waiting a bit for the engine to warm up!
I remember, and kind of miss, those days. At least we KNEW why it wouldn't start right up... :)
Bug and everyone else ... It is NOT your cycles fault ... it is the Lithium Ion battery! The battery, when it sits for any length of time, becomes 'cold.' This has nothing to do with the outside temp. My T1200GTPro sits inside my basement where it is 65-70°.
Before I throw a leg over, I toggle the ignition (up) to start waking up the battery. Then, as I throw a leg over, hit the switch to activate the fuel pump and gauges. While I put on my gloves and the fuel gauge climbs to show the level, then she is ready to fire! Ya, the battery saves weight, but I would prefer a good old closed cell AGM!

Hmm, I don't think the 2024 Scrambler 900 ships with a Lithium battery, does it? Regardless, I'm gonna plug it in tonight and see what happens in the morning...
Nice report. My current ride is a '23 Road King Special, but I've always had a soft spot for the Triumph Scrambler 900s.
I wanted to make the headlight LED but i wanted to retain the Triumph Headlight grill i bought for it but I found it to be too much of a PITA trying to find an LED that would fit the bucket. So i just went with a superwhite halogen bulb. Its whiter, thankfully not bluish. A 9003 bulb will take care of it but youll need a matching position light on the bottom. Id make that bulb more on the bluish end. I did get the large pannier bag. Really fills in the left side. Agreed that the bike isnt a speed demon. In fact, 80 seems to be where to bike gives up on going faster. Its not a highway bike for sure with 5 gears. But she handles nearly as good as my sportbike and has great pull. At first i love the look of the bikes stock exhaust but the shotgun look is starting to grow on me and it really is quiet beyond a few feet past the rider. I love the bar end mirrors, i do want that too.
I have a Tiger Sport 660 and it never starts first time, but always 2nd time. I put it down to the angle it sits on the side stand, because if you straighten it and wait 30 secs it will start first time…I found it odd at first, but learned to live with it, not as a flaw, but a quirk.
I'm absolutely gonna try this. Will leave it on the center stand overnight!

Pulling to the right and exhaust weight causing it… thank you for saying that , I was starting to wonder if my forks were twisted,
While coasting I took my hands off to check the balance and it pulled to the right otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed it,
[if you lean the bike to the left it runs straight] So iv’e been eyeing up the fork alinement thinking something was wrong.
But then I notice when I have the pannier bag on the left side loaded up the pull to the right eases up or disappears.
As you say it must be a weight issue.
But as mentioned above if I hadn’t taken my hands off of the bars I wouldn’t have noticed it.
My first thought on hearing your start up was that the battery is weak .I see others are saying the same thing .. Maybe try a new battery .. SO I got a left over 2017 Street Scrambler in 2018 for $1500.00 off at $9500.00 . I added a center stand , heated grips larger Tiger adventure dirt foot pegs and a pannier rack for a wooden box to hold my winter and rain gear .. 19K miles so far and I love the thing .. I am on my third chain and my second sprocket and my third set of tires.. Lots of dirt and winter riding here in New England .56 MPG and low test fuel .I wish the gas tank was a littel bigger .170 miles range being carefull .. All the best , Guy
PS I have never had a problem with mine starting .. Earlier this season I went into the coffee shop and forgot and left the key in the bike and the light on ..The battery was dead when I came out .. I tried charging the battery and decided to get a new one at the next oil change .. That said except my own mistake I have never had a moment when the bike didn't start first thing .Even at 35 degrees in the winter with it living outside under a snow covered bag ... Yours Guy
It’s it such a good looking bike, when I ride through my city I get people looking up and smiling at me as I cruise past, when I park it up in car parks I get 80 year old guys coming up wanting to talk about it and rely their history of bikes when they were young.
Today I parked it up at the beach for a coffee at the sea front and I had 2 Old Aged Pensioners [husband and wife] stop and talk to me admiring it.
Hey you’re not alone. So as you may remember, I have the 2024 Speed Twin 900. Just got the first service. And now I also notice it doesn’t fire up right away. Second try yes. But for the first 600 miles new never had an issue. Guess what? I always plug in the bike with a battery tender so when I unplug it and fire it up then first shot. But lately I’m being lazy since I use it a lot and just don’t think I need to plug it in after a ride. So a couple days later, I take her out and won’t start at first push. Second it does. And then I need to give it a few seconds to warm up or it stalls. I think someone said the battery. And I think they are right. Not a biggie tho.
Next. Fuel tank. Agree. Wish I had more range.
I have tubeless tires so I’m ok. lol
Windshield. Forget it. More turbulent wind noise with one than without. If wind fatigues you then get one and put up with the excess wind noise. Basically I say if anyone wants to chomp up thousands of miles on an interstate then buy a touring bike. I prefer the Bonneville for its purest motorcycle feel. And I’ll put up with 500 mile days in the saddle even at 65 years of age lol.
My only complaint initially of the Speed 900 is that it felt small for me. Somewhat cramped. Not an issue on the Scrambler. But I truly got used to it after about 15 minutes into the first ride home from the dealership and now I don’t even think about it. My last bike was Vstrom 1000 so lots of big bike to hang on to lol. I actually find the speed 900 comfortable?!?

Thank you! And agreed about the turbulence. I'm not sure I've ever ridden a bike that had a windscreen I felt did the job, except if they're ungodly big. Then you might as well just be in a car.
I had my Speedie 900 stock seat increased by and inch 2cm by an auto upholstery cost me £120 - helps make it same height as T100/120

As for range... I ended up buying a Giant Loop Armadillo Bag. The one I have will store a gallon, and will fit easily and neatly into my rear bag. I took it on my trip and didn't fill it. Figured if the worst happened, I'd send one of my fellow riders along to fetch me some gas.
That said, with this bag (it's like $125 but really, super well made) I've now got a theoretical 200+ mile range. I've decided I can live with that.
As for the tubed tires... I bit the bullet and bought some nice tire spoons, and at some point I'll rip a tire off and give a tube replacement a try, just so I know whether or not I could do it on the road, in a pinch. I have also been reading about things like Slime, which if what I've read is correct, could potentially provide a way to limp off to a proper fix if needed. It's all a big hassle though and if I could find a reasonably-priced and good-quality set of tubeless rims, I'd snap them up.
92°F in London yesterday, and mine still needed a little bit of gas to get it to fire up.
It's a Scrambler thing I think, to make it sound even better on start up.
I'm expecting to see an updated Scrambler 900 for 2025, it's now the oldest bike on the modern side of Triumph's Bonneville range, so it wouldn't surprise me if there aren't a few little tweaks to bring it in line with both the 400 and 1200 ranges.
And don't forget, almost everything that fits on a Bonnie can fit on the Scrambler, even the bigger tank (although personally I think it looks better slimmer).
I've been looking at getting one of these as my secondary bike to use when I want a different style than my cruiser. The Scrambler 900 is nearly perfect already in my eyes, but if they did update it the only thing I'd hope for is better stock suspension
Agreed, I think the tank is the perfect size for this bike. If it weren't it'd be a deal breaker for me. I'm ok trading some functionality for aesthetics on a motorcycle.
Wonderful bike. Triumph fan here too. Speedmaster 865, Tiger 1200 and Rocket 3 keep me very happy!
Hi , I had the same starting issue with my speed twin. I live in Australia, I used premium petrol 98 octane. I was told by my dealer to use the lower regular 91 octane and the issue disappeared, starts first time now 👍

I have the T120 gold line and I’m often looking for 7th or 8th gear 😳😳😳 but man I love that bike. Just makes me smile all the time I ride it.
Those Triumph 270-degree p-twins are amazing. Even bone-stock. I just wish the dual analog gauges were available on more than just the T100/T120 and the Speed Twin 1200. It's just aesthetics, and in practice it's not like I'm frequently looking at them (I have a ST1200), but when I do happen to look down it's just so pleasing.
Euro5 regulations means they run lean, give the throttle a quick blip and that usually sorts my Triumph out. Great videos - ride safe.
No idea know what the stating up issue is with yours, I’ve had mine from new a full year, used it constantly 3 or 4 times a week - every week through the coldest and hottest days.
Starts perfect every time. 🤷♂️
the only issue I’ve had was a warning light came on, took it to the dealer and it was a computer glitch where the ABS wasn’t talking to the computer.
[they plugged it into a laptop and reset the computer fixed it in 10 minutes]

I've had the same problem with not starting on my '22 street scrambler 900. Although for me in hot weather, when its 90F +, it'll die on the first start if I don't give it a little gas. Weirdly no issues in cold, I've had no problems starting it down to the high 30s

HA! No not this shirt, but I've been questioned once about my hat, and once about my black shirt. I didn't even think about the red... It's just a matter of time.
The T-100 has been on my radar for my second motorcycle later this year or early next. Looks like I'll have to look at the Scrambler as well.
The 2023 T100 in orange/light blue screams to me. I think it's my favorite color combination of any Triumph I've seen.
What it all really comes down to is character. What kind of character are you looking for in a bike. They both have lots of character, just different. At least for me.
Have had a bunch of triumph classics and the T100 is the one I’ve kept as a second bike, even though it has less power. It’s a great all rounder and looks gorgeous. The 900 scrambler seems quite similar to the t100. I guess it depends on which you like the look of.

Have you considered the tracking right "issue" might be road camber?
I just blip the throttle twice when I cold start and it doesn't die out. Also, after getting the rugged pannier and loading it up, I'm wondering if the stock pipe is that heavy to counter balance if you're using one.
I have a 2024 1200 scrambler and mine does the same thing. If I do take it off the stand and wait for a few seconds, it’ll fire up right away.
you should have taken it to the dealer they might be able to adjust the idle or do a software flash to get it to start
Would this be a good all weather commuter bike?
Mine did the same thing for awhile. Do you have the Booster Plug? My starting problems began after I installed it and cleared up for the most part after I disconnected it. You can also try resetting the learning function on the ECU if you haven't already. Doing that seemed to help too.
I don't have a booster plug. I considered putting one in my T120 to see if it helped with low-speed lurching, but haven't found a reason for one in the new bike... I did try the 12-minute reset. I'm gonna give that a go again...
Nice bike but I say that about all bikes. I recently fitted the Dart Marlin screen on my Honda CB1100EX. I'd previously had it on my Interceptor 650. It's a great screen. Looks good and quite inexpensive. They ship free world wide and have a kit for the scrambler 900. Check them out.
I think these bikes are highly strung to meet emissions.. I've seen many people have their bikes mapped to get the emissions hand cuff off...

Did you check Dart in the UK? They have nice fly screens. I got one for my Speed 400. Also, that cruise control... what is it?
i have the same in khaki green. I was looking to buy british custom slashcut for my scrambler but just curious how difficult it is to install and if we need to tune it or sum?
What's your height? And does the wider handlebar (compared to t120) make it more difficult to handle or tire you out on long drives?
How often do you clean and lubricate the chain
I really try and do it every 500 or so miles, but it's gone a bit longer than that at times... I'm pretty good about it though, and oddly kind of enjoy doing it.
Do you ride the scrambler with passenger?
I have not. in fact i've removed the pillion seat and put a rack back there.
had you looked at the 900 speed twin?
I didn't, but if I were to go back to a Bonneville-styled bike, I think that'd be high on the list.
