I feel/hear you. My (american) wife and I are devestated after this election. Even though, it was predictable. And it will affect all of us in Europe as well. So far, we live in Germany and the States. What we are going to do in the (near?) future, we don't know yet. Live in an autogracy (US) or in a country threatend by Russia? How safe will Germany and Europe and the western world be when the guy 'deals' with Putin and other Dictators? Hard times. I share your sadness, Dereck. However, Music (and family, friends and my beloved wife) allow (s) me to not loose hope. I am following your chanel since Covid hit us (bought about 50 records you introduced me to since then) and it feels like I can visit you in your house to share the love for music and also other thoughts on an almost daily basis. That I don't agree on everything you say with you is not important. We agree on the fundamental issues about how people should treat each other and the basic values. I feel like a guest in your home, when I watch your shows. I appreciate your free spirit. And I truly hope, you and your beloved ones will be able to continue living in freedom and dignity. Where I am living now in DK everyone I have spoken to about the election result, they all have said that they are baffled and disappointed about the outcome just like I am. So much is at stake including the environment. Nature can survive and thrive without humankind, humankind cannot survive without nature.

You said something so on point and relatable that I rewound it twice. About people taking more than they say they’re going to give. It gets old. I have 3 close friends that I’ve known for decades. One I actually joke with-“I charge $20 an hour” or “my office is closed on Sundays”. He’s aware of it but still tries for some kind of therapy session every time I see him. And I was never even in the professional mental health field like you. I know there’s a word for it now- empath, or whatever. I hate labels, but the definition fits me perfectly. We are our own best friends. We can spend most days alone and enjoy it. We never get bored. We have a profound love and empathy for humanity, but when we interact with it, our cups get full very quick. People can be like psychic vampires sometimes, draining us.

I am horrified that so many fellow citizens are racist, misogynist, ignorant and stupid! But now I know! My personal delusions about Americas 'exceptionalism' have finally dissipated at the ripe age of 57. I'm now part of the resistance. Stay well, brother.
I believe we are in a fight to PRESERVE American “exceptionalism”. Despite our many problems, people around the world still want to come here to achieve the American Dream. Our secular democracy and constitutional free speech makes us a very special country. But Trump might be the end of those things if we don’t fight back.
