There''s loads of Casio fans who have to put up with sub-par tracking and sports support. I can see this being super interesting for them.
Way too expensive
Casio fan here (with a gbd h1000). Wow, you are absolutely spot on. Garmin's just way too high up there in tracking, i wish they just do a merger. 🤣
Agree with you. However, $500 is a ton of money for a plastic watch. Don't get me wrong, it is loaded with capabilities. But yowee that is expensive. If it was $299 they would sell like hotcakes. 2 years from now when it gets discounted maybe I'll pick one up.
@@shorne1111 Exactly 2 years from now this Garmin Instinct Crossover would be heavily discounted at that time.
By that time my Fēnix 6 Pro will be retired or junk then as now it has white circle-ish spot (periodically increasing in size) on its screen as moisture or water has penetrated it after I ran 100k race with 4 hours of heavy rain 🌧 in the night last July 2022.
@@shorne1111time to pick one :)
The G-Shock vibes (Gravitymaster GA1000) are strong with this one! Love the look and your videos!
Nice, I've been bugging myself to upgrade my Instinct 1 Solar to 2, but this looks right up my alley.
This feels like what G-shock (one of my favorite watch brands) should have done with their smart watches, and while they never delivered on their part, Garmin does. I know a lot of people have been wanting something like this, and it's nice to know Garmin cares about what people want.
I've always dreamed about Fenix with analogue watch hands but I have no idea how they can put display with maps on it. But this Instinct Crossover makes it a step closer. Love Garmin's idea of combining real watches with the new tech.
An absolutely must have for me! I have the instinct solar in yellow. I'm very happy with the G-shocky looks of it. But I'm obsessed with hybrid watches! I have a Tissot T touch connect solar too, but that's a big step back from Garmin. This is the watch what I was hoping for.
Enjoy!
@@DesFit I got it yesterday! It's a fantastic watch. I'm a bit sad, that here in Hungary, the release date delayed a lot. But now it's on my wrist and that's matters! 🤛
@@Memmaao how are you liking it still ? the best instinct yet?
@@mattiecreates hi! I still love it, although if you have the wrist for an instinct 2X, that's a good choice too.
I really like this watch. Being a Casio mudmaster user for years I also agree with the comments that bring up Casio really running behind in tracking and fitness. I will have to seriously consider this watch for purchase.
OMG, I am so excited about this. Even though I bought the Instinct 2 Solar when it came out earlier this year, I’m definitely getting this. It is exactly what I want.
Love it. I didn't know Garmin ever did an analog watch hybrid. This is the only thing stopping me from buying a smartwatch. I wish they would make it as pretty as Casio's and also add the flashlight.
I LOVE IT! immediately ordered it.
I already have the instinct 2 and now I'm definitely getting this one too
the cutout window of instincts are actually quite useful ie. highlighting upcoming turn on navigation, a pie chart running down on timer mode, etc... seeing a symmetrical face on this crossover and the data presentation does look kinda fresh... also it seems better to show data with this kind of screen for hybrids than the OLEDs on the likes of Vivomove Sport or Lily
Thanks, DesFit. I just started enjoying the full potential of my Instinct 2 Solar, and here you go...
But what I like about Garmin is their innovation, they are not afraid to test the market with such models. Being an Instinct fan since the beginning, this is something really interesting and out of my expectations for sure. Will wait for a full review. Keep us updated.
For sure, Igor. 👍 Thanks!
I’m in the same boat! Just started enjoying my Instinct 2 and THIS comes along! It’s beautiful!
@@chispito6986 Welcome to the team, brother 😊😊
@@igoropulas 5-8 weeks to get it here in Spain, WTF??? How's it in the US, or where you live?
@@chispito6986 bro, no! I don't have them :) Was talking about having my Instinct 2... so no worries!
This thing is taking aim squarely at my Casio Pro-Trek, which is an AMAZING watch, especially at only $200.
I love it. I have two smartwatches, a Garmin Instinct and a Fossil Hybrid. The Garmin has better features but the Fossil is easier to check the time on when it gets darker and it looks classier. So Crossover is close to perfection for me. Pricey though!
I love it! Particularly the luminescent parts, which remind me of the Luminox watches. The only downside is that it's extremely thick at 16.5 mm
I have a strange feeling that Garmin is trying to become a new (and better) Casio company when I look at this watch. 😏 Love my Instinct 2 Solar, will stay with that.
I am impressed. Combines best of my Instinct with my G-Shock.
This watch LOOKS good ... we're getting better day by day
As a G-Shock fan and user, I always wanted Casio to make something like this. As far as I'm concerned, Instinct Crossover's a perfect watch.
I personally love it but the first thing that came to mind was Casio 2100... While Casio is slow to implement smart features to its watches, along comes Garmin which implements Casio into theirs
I think it's an awesome idea that can be improved upon. Love the analog addition especially with the Swiss Luminova . Makes reading the time easier in more conditions and gives the watch a more traditional look.
However, I don't like the added thickness or aesthetic choices. I wish all the versions had the white lume like the standard version. Also, I don't like the font used for the "12" and "6". Wish those positions matched the other indices (but with the 12 o'clock position being thicker for easier nightime orientation.
Perfect review , on time as always🫡🫡
Thanks!
decided to buy Tactical edition after 2 months of researching. this watch finally end my fear towards smartwatch 'anxiety' (such as all screen, fake digital hands etc), wearing it feels like wearing a true analog watch(i mean it, not just ordinary hybrid), almost the same as my venerable Casio SGW-400. yeah its the same feeling, so good im putting my Fenix 7x in the drawer now.
Definitely the best combination of their existing technologies. Transreflective displays are just so much better for useful, everyday watch usage.
Looking forward to see the review!
Coming up!
Kinda interesting take. Liked the luminescent hands and the clock, although I wouldn't swap my instinct 2 for these.
I really really like the idea of the crossover between analogue and digital. I don't know about the physiological parameters and running metrics on this new Crossover... other than that the only thing lacking is the topo maps... otherwise I would get this instead of the Fenix 7
I used to be a big fan of analogue hands watch, dropped my Casio g-shocks because their face is always cramped and overloaded. Switched to Protreks 3000 something first (still keep it) but my go to watch is Instinct Solar (after your videos actually, mate!)
Great review good concept highly priced very thick 16.2
Wow just when I was happy with my epix and not planning on getting another watch for a few years 🤣😭
Very interesting announcement from Garmin. I'm guessing you didn't get a ton of testing time with this one? The Instinct watches have a massive following and I get it. That Instinct 2 Solar has so much going for it. Great work on this one Des! 👏🏻
This was certainly a surprise! A little shipping delay with my review unit unfortunately but soon! Thanks Matt!
@@DesFit - Honestly, I don't think you'll uncover anything crazy weird when it comes to data accuracy. Instinct 2 was solid before they added all-systems GPS. 🤷♂ Very interesting surprise from Garmin but I think it'll be popular. 🙌
I've been eyeing Casio ProTrek PRG-650 for durability and looks and while on checkout page - there you are with this video. Definitely have to reevaluate the purchase. Of course Casios are nowhere near Garmin in regards to features but analog-digital display, compass, toughness and long battery life is what I was looking for.
So did you get the crossover or the Prg ? I am confused between the prg 600/650 , 340 and the crossover..
@@bigdaddyy0882 I couldn't make a choice so I didn't. If I had the money, I would have gotten both.
I have to admit I didn't like the idea, but it looks pretty good. Sounds like a nice choice for the right buyer
I would love this in a slimmer design like the vivomove
I really find this cross over interesting. Would love to see the full indebth review.
Coming up!
I wish they bring the flaming red color back.. ALSO with every new instinct the dial is getting more modern.. The very first version was absolute perfection in terms of dial design
I’m very much an ‘analogue’ fan. Only watch I have that’s pure digital is my Fenix 3. I’m feeling like it’s time for an upgrade. I’ve been keeping an eye on the recent Fenix releases as I like the colour mapping, (for road cycling and trail walking/running), but I’m wondering whether I break the cycle and divide the two roles between a watch like the Crossover (GPS and Data) and a handheld or bar mounted unit (mapping). Between buying the latest Fenix or the CO with a handheld, no difference in price, but arguably a little more versatility.
wow that’s a winner
Hmmm. Cool, but it answers a question I’m not asking. Like where are the analog hands. Thanks Des!
You’re welcome Greg!
I think a lot of people, including myself, bought the original Instinct because it was the biggest bang for the buck. Seems the newer models are getting up there in price. Then again, I'm just a cheapa$$ 😁
I really want this watch but 500$ is a bit much for me too.
I had instinct 1. Wanted a upgrade. Recently found a Fenix 6 pro for 200bucks. I should have just purchased instinct 2. I don't use the extra features from the Fenix. I really enjoyed the instinct 1.
It was cheaper and did most of what the Fenix can do.
I'm still waiting for the Vivoactive 5... Their transflective display is just the best since I'm always outside
Sick!
It's definitely not for me, as I don't like analog watches or the rugged look. But I can definitely see why it would appeal to people that do like those things. I'm kind of hoping someone I know gets one so I can check it out up close.
I like it and I want it 😁
Sweet
Great direction; it gets more thing right than its Japanese competitior/inspiration, and does it without going over the top manga style.
WOW! Look at the bezel!! 🤣😂
Thank you so much for the videos!!
I have 2 questions though.
1. Does the standard issue have the solar for recharging?
2. Just how big is the watch hands? I'm at the age where I need glasses to read the time and it's usually better to read the time if it's a digital watch face.
I hope you see the message. I'd like to buy the standard option but I'm unsure as it doesn't specifically say 'solar' in the description
Honestly: I just sent Garmin the wish to bring this out as a "Marq Crossover", mechanical hands with Amoled: Imagine having a high quality material watch that comes along as fully analog at first glance, but with a gesture or "light"button-push you get the full Garmin features like this Instinct Crossover, which is an awesome concept that should be upgraded more...
That's pretty nice but how well does the GPS work? Is it worth the money?
I wish they release a metal/titanium instinct.
This my favorite of the instinct line up. I have the vivoactive 4s and I’m getting ready to upgrade to a primary watch. What would be your go garmin watch in the 300-500 range. Is the crossover use I connect app and can you swap bands in them.
Fast update 🤣🤣🤣 🥰🥰👍👍👍👍
I guess I’m saving up my money.😉
🙌👍
Des does this have a seconds complication that can be added to the watch face?
Nice to see something different, but I find the normal instinct better
Plenty of options for everyone 👍
Garmin Instinct Crossover is actually a cool timepieces and is a direct competition with some of Casio G-Shock watches.
This is probably my next GPS watch by the time I'll retire my Fēnix 6 Pro.
Kinda want one even though I love my forerunner 945... But $500+ I just can't. Got my forerunner on sale for under 400
Can you turn off the screen entirely when not in workout mode? I mean it collects HR, steep, etc during the day, but looks like an analogue watch.
I got the instinct 2 solar and was pretty disappointed with its durability. Took a fall on my bike and the workout functionality (rep counting) never worked properly again. Also had issues with the heart rate monitor. It’s a shame because I really like the look of their watches - and this newest Instinct is no exception! - but I’m reluctant to shell out and get another. Maybe my experience was a one-off?
It is still under warranty, right? I got screen burn in on Venu and they have replaced it with a completely new watch.
would you suggest Instinct or fenix 7
What kind of glas does the none-solar version come with? "chemically strengthened glass" - is it gorilla glas or the stuff they're using on smartphone displays? For 549 Euro (Yeah, 50€ more here in Europe) or 599 Euro (solar) - Sapphire glas would be nice like Huawei, Coros or Polar offer at the same (and lower) price point.
Will this give latitude /longitude coordinates?
does this crossover have a swipe/touch screen or buttons only?
It’s a physical button interface
Does this have the new training readiness or morning report?
That's my question too
This is what Casio should have done with the G-Shock - but Garmin got there first
you mention "all satellite systems" mode and the term "multi-gnss", but that doesn't mean multi-band GNSS (i.e. the most accurate GPS tracks) correct? Because your buddy Ray mentions in his written review that this Instinct Crossover has the new GPS chipset, but doesn't do multi-band. It's all quite confusing I must say... The 955 and the 255 series have multi-band, but the "regular" Fenix models do not, only the "Sapphire" versions, etc..
I have no idea why they rushed with the release of this one?!?! Tactical version on USA website: ready for shipping: 5-8 weeks?! It won't even come to Hungary in this year! I'm so disappointed. I would wear it yesterday!
if it had a esim also, would be perfect
For us that like the background to be reversed, I.e. light rather than dark, is that possible?
I have the instinct crossover and there does NOT appear to be an option to reverse the background to light…. believe me, I’ve tried!
Great watch...I just hope they will add more colors....right now it's a bit bland!
But why no sapphire glass.... Such a shame. The descent G1 did get sapphire glass and is a instinct based watch.. otherwise it would be a great watch!
Does this run udisc?
Would love to see a fenix 7 based watch with real hands.
Can we use Spotify app in this watch .
Just drop the instinct in the X size allready! 😀 max 4 small data fields kills the watch for me…
I'm really confused. On the garmin website it says unlimited battery with solar but only on watch mode. Smartphone mode says 71 days with solar. The instinct 2 solar says unlimited for both smartphone and watch mode... I just want a smartwatch I will never have to charge and I like this
I’m guessing the dual layer bezel obstructs the solar panel just a bit which may have an effect on solar charging.
@DesFit yeah I was thinking that. Shame as I like the crossover but I'm fed up with charging my fenix weekly so just want a wear and forget watch with most of the same features! Cheers for the quick reply pal 👍
I feel like Crossover watches are the future…. But #1. We need to dim the background display. #2. We need them to look more unique and something we would wear to dinner but still sporty. Like a more rugged automatic ulysse nardin chronograph but a crossover made by Garmin. This one looks like a Casio, which I think is a design fail. #3 I would like to see a cheaper black out version and a pricier whitegold-like and rose gold-like metal combined with carbon accents. This is a market that has huge potential and no one has done it right. Garmin has that chance to make an incredible wearable crossover with Fenix epic tech but in a watch you’d wear on a night out, and I know people will pay $750 to 2.5k pending options on the finishings. I’d give up a Rolex for this.
And how would you like that watch Mr Wick? Tactical.
Only 3 colours! Seriously!? Where is red, Orange, mint or pink? If they’ll be avaliable I’m gonna buy it. ❤ By the way its a Wonderful watch.
I think they may be aiming more for a dressed up look with the Crossover which may explain the more neutral colors.
Just signed up for a half marathon. Would you guys choose this Instinct Crossover or the Forerunner 245?
I'd look at the Forerunner 255 as its a bit more current than the 245. Good luck on your half!
I know garmin does not have to compete with Apple, but not having LTE and brighter screens is an issue. The 955 should have been lte at the least
I had condensed water inside the watch after first run in 5 degrees celcius.
I found it har to read distance, time etc and the dials are really annoying when running.
Also the lumen is really bad.
Do you know when it will be released?
Today
@@DesFit
Oh really, I’m in Australia and the website doesn’t say where it’s available.
Thank you mate.
@@DesFit
I just spoke with Garmin Australia this morning, and they said the stock in retail stores won’t be available until around mid December.
Damn, I was hoping to get one sooner. Haha.
if you like analog watch faces you definitely dont need to worry about aod/battery life issues
Casio getting some run for their money
my new instinct crossover hands and markings are NOT luminous.
if they were I might not be returning it.
correction: its luminous if you blast it but for a very short period utterly useless vs (say) a Rolex which stays good for a half the night at least. Its so useless I didn't know it was “working”
RIP Alpina Alpiner X
I would buy it .. for half of the price
Slowly sipping years of Casio's cream.
Instinct Crossover - Smartwatch: Up to 28 days/70 days with solar*
Instinct 2 - Smartwatch: Up to 28 days/Unlimited with solar*
So basically it just put something that gets in the way of being able to clearly read the data that you want the watch to display in the first place? Some people might like this or use it from a fashion standpoint I guess but... I think it's kind of stupid.
I wish garmin products didnt cost the price of a motorcycle or old car down here :(
I don't like the white hands with white text. Make the hands red or green or something.
I can only watch your videos at 0,75 speed... You're too fast for me... 😬
Yup, that’s the trick for a lot of people! The 0.75X club 👍
So disappointed. I just bought an Instinct 2 Solar on discount. They should have announced this a week earlier 😔 I like this one much better, but now stuck with an older version.
I really want to like this but I cringe at "chemically strengthed glass" and the price. Garmin's are just getting ridiculously expensive.
Again no wi-fi module, I assume. That will force me to skip this generation as well staying with first version of solar.
No sapphire screen, no buy
