As a native Kentuckian, I freely declare that bluegrass music sounds *WAY WORSE* than anything here. I'd rather listen to a canine depressurizing its colon, than bluegrass. 🤮
Soooo many people who bring me things to fix think they actually know what's going on. They can be pretty convincing sometimes as well. You talking about if they knew they wouldn't be there hits hard. I gotta try and keep that in mind. It's so true too. Most of the time I get to looking at whatever it is and it is usually a simple diagnosis and repair and you can see they just replaced the first things google said to replace before replacing something was too expensive to justify it. Then they bring it here and in an hour it's going again. 😂 those are either the most cake jobs or the worst cause they fumble it and mess up everything they touch along the way. This ol gal was definitely neglected for quite the time. Good work as always. Keep it up
I enjoy the fact that you use no nonsense approach to how to repair small engine equipment. You don't use fancy specialty brand name tools like Snap-On etc. Except when required. I have learned a lot watching your videos. You have a unique way of delivering comedy with great information. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Excellent, attention-to-detail repair. That veteran snowblower still has alot of life left, and I'm glad it didn't go to the dump. Hope the owner pays attention to proper maintenance. Thanks.
At the prices of the new junk snow blowers, it's well worth putting some money in those older better made units. Especially if it has the older adjustable carbs like that one. Run the fuel out dry at the end of the season and store out of the weather and they will last forever. In my experience, run mixed fuel. The left over oil will help save the carb.
I always mix 1 oz. of Gumout per gallon of gas on my 4 stroke power equipment. Keeps the carb clean. Then drain gas at the end of the season. I dont have a problem. If you dont do anything else at the end of a usage season, you need to at least drain the gas.
Hey Taryl if you read this I have good story. I bought a new log splitter in July. Came fitted with a Krohler 6.5Hp sh series engine. Run time on engine is 1 1/2 hrs. Final time I ran was around Halloween for about 20min. Ran fine nothing weird. Shut it down drained tank and carb bowl for winter. Someone brought me rounds to split and I got the splitter out. Poured fuel in. Pulled starter cord to rotate to TDC to start it. It appeared to have zero compression. Pulled over again thinking is imagining it. Same thing. Get my compression tester out, sure enough zero compression. Pop valve cover off exhaust valve stuck open. Brand new engine. Krohler warranty these engines 2yrs residential but I had to take it to their official service center. Still waiting to hear from them. I didn't want to pull head since it was under warranty. I'm guessing the exact moment I shut it down back in October the valve spring failed and piston kissed the valve just enough to bend it to stick open. Im sure u have you experienced this?
WE got a lot of snow here this week in North GA...not practical to invest in a snow blower...it rains, then turns into slushy ice/refreeze...GA D.O.T. does clear off main S.R and Interstates...but do have some "tecumish" mowers for parts...thx foe sharing with a retired fixed income 71/75 y.o.Seniors...maybe after the 20th this mo. could get that "Z-bender", cable wire, gel-lube, etc... WOW Awesome job. Not many master mechanics like you with Honor , Honesty and Integrity around anymore. Young people should beat a path to your door to learn the correct way to repair these things .. but sadly they envy and emulate the wrong people now. Prayers and love to you and your family. Love ya brother !!
Taryl you are the best explaining in detail everything you do! I’ve rebuilt many carbs but after watching your videos I’ve learned so much more, thanks for all your detailed videos and humorous add ons !!
My 1982 Airens ST824 is still going strong. I take the belly pan off every season and grease all the fittings. Only issue is the lower part of the auger chute is rusting away due to the salty Wisconsin snow pushed on the end of the driveway. I needed to adapt a different scraper bar a few years ago.
I had a similar Ariens. It was a heavy beast, but as old as it was, it did a great job. I had it from 1988 until around 2012 , when I bought a new Honda. Taryl , you are the best teacher on the inner-screen !!!!! I watch every single video you post. BTW, I always look forward to Elk Skins...."fire it up, Fire it up, fire it up" All my friends and my Grandson too, always say ....FIRE IT UP !!!!! Thanx Taryl
The basics in this video would be great for anyone messing with old motorcycles, outboards or about anything taking gas. This guy has so much experience and well gel lubed brain gears that makes this channel a fun YT classroom.
Glad to see you're still around! I just buy a Amazon carb, and it usually runs 2-3 years! Of course we haven't had much snow here in CT in 2 years! I have a2007 yard machines and a 200s Murray! Still run! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday, and all the best for 25!
As an Ariens dealer from the Ol' 1980's, you did everything right young man! Great Video! Totally enjoyed watching this! Chuck & Bev (South Hammond Lawnmower)
Maaaaaaan! Brought my grandpa‘s trusty ST724 back to live last year, after it sat in the shed for about 3 decades. That video would have come in handy at that time. But managed it anyways. Had watched enough of your videos beforehand. Big thanks from Germany. Keep up the good work, Taryl!
Hey there Terry - I sure love your vids. You are a very good teacher and a great Credit to the repair industry. Keeping all the workable units out of the Landfill just because of some TLC is needed - Wayda go there my friend.
Howdy Cuz!! Nice job getting the ol' beast running again. I'm finally able to sit in a regular chair again and now I'm going back to watch all the videos I missed. Thanks again for checking in on me.
Same here we are getting less snow every year l only used my toro single stage once so far and my two stage l haven't used in a couple of years but I did run it dry and used your tip on spraying wd40 into the carburetor so l think it should start with no issues when and if l need it fingers crossed thanks for all the great videos I've learned so much from you guys
😂 I have 4 Arians 10/28 sitting under a tarp out back. Had 6 of them given to me by local university as junk. Fix 2 real fast and sold them but the other 4 need more work so im debating parting them out or fixing them. Love the videos get a chuckle and Learn something.
I miss these long videos likes this. Great fix! I have to clean the carb on my 5hp Tecumseh single stage tomorrow, gave $5 for it recently at an estate sale.
I miss the unique resonant tone of a Tecumish muffkin and working on them! I know the carbitrater stuff by heart, and I consider these the “small block Chevy of small engines! They kick Breaks and Scrap’em to the curb! As long as ya run ethanol free gas and a good grade of oil and NEVER over speed them so Uncle Rodney (connecting rod) doesn’t make an exit through the block they will run. Every time! Also, I like to be certain the throttle shaft isn’t gummed up because, like a Detroit diesel 2 stroke, with a stuck rack from sitting a long time, and it it is always in full fuel position, starting it might cause a nasty over speed condition, since small engines are always in full fuel position, wide open when off because of the governor spring, so a gummed, sticky throttle shaft will over speed it like the Detroit with a stuck rack. Another thing to be wary of is valve seat recession causing exhaust valves to not seat fully. They will run bad and get the muffkin red or even orange hot from combustion gases leaking past the exhaust valves to not, and this can burn the valve and seat fast! It must be addressed immediately if these symptoms above mentioned! Glad to see these increasingly collected as vintage engines still in regular use!! The Power Products division 2 strokes were awesome little engines, and sounded great! Cheers Taryl and Jr!!
That's a nice unit. It reminds me of a belt drive Allis-Chalmers snowthrower for their tractor. Ok, it is the orange color. Engine leaked, but it ran for more than 20 years. I loved the orange color and vertical, perforated orange steel grille folded with 3 or 4 channels. A shame it disappeared in 1999. Ariens snowthrowers are the only ones I recommend aisde from the big, bad, tracked, superior Hondas.
I got a Tecumseh knockoff seat tool maybe three years ago. Seats are so cheap and easy to remove/install I automatically replace every one I work on. 🔧👍
I have stopped using carb cleaner and just started using starting fluid to clean with. It will not eat up the rubber products like carb spray and only run 100% gas in my equipment helps so much on carb longevity…. You do a great job on you content keep it up!!!!!
I use Fogging Oil on my generator when I store it. I drain all the fuel from the tank and then fog it through the breather until the carbutrator runs out of fuel then remove and fog the bowl and then reinstall the bowl and spray inside the fuel tank! Tank still looks like new and when I need to use it, it will start on the first pull or two!
Taryl you need to ask each person who wants you to repair old lawn mowers /snow blowers or what ever to watch the complete video of the repairs that you do to get the repair done ; before you present them with your fair price bill for the job( SO NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT HOW HOW MUCH IT COST)! Taryl you are the most thorough small engine repair man ever; you get deep into every repair I have seen on your channel, ever small part You pick and find everthing that could ever cause a problem while doing a repair that most repair shops would never do , they will try to do the minimum work just to get paid and an get the machine or device out of the shop. Taryl, Nice vid! Hey I have a new Champion EFI 9,200/ 11,500 watt generator and when I plug in a 4 year old black torpedo heater propane fueled the generator will spit & sputter then die. It flashes 2 codes and one is for a CPS fault and other is bad fuel injection module. Unplug heater then generator fires up and runs fine. Only dies when I plug in the torpedo heater...new stuff go figure??!!
Hey Taryl, what type of cleaning fluid do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner for carbs. Many of us would love to know this? Thanks ahead of time. Even my wife loves your channel! Your the best! Been subscribed for quite awhile now to.
I have the same machine and it looks a lot better than this one. They no you need the stuff but want you to throw it away and buy new. As far as putting the seat in use the end of one of your drill sets. Grind the back flat if you want. I just used the end of the right drill size.
Yep I'll keep my early 90s Snapper as long as I can. It would cost me well over a 1k to get something comparable. It can be annoying sometimes keeping it going but I'm getting my moneys worth considering I only paid 350 for it about 8 years ago.
Taryl's channel by far beats book learnin'.
I learn a lot from Steve’s small engine saloon as well.
And Donyboy73 channel
@@markdevine929 Donyboy is good. I haven't checked him out in a long time, YT no longer suggests his videos
''Whatch u readin for?'' Bill Hicks skit. I am the only 1 that will get it probably.

Excellent point on tire sealer. I would have never thought of that.
These older ariens with the 8-10hp Tecumsehs were the best! They always chewed through all the snow and were built to last

Love the video n by the way we love the fire it up guy lol
I love that "spring" sound and "seal" LMAO gotta be the most entertaining small engine repair guy ever!
He has a guy probably a college kid taking film classes. He is probably the one that suggested the seal sound and other effects.
Tool is still available. Tons are on amazon last I looked. I have one but considering buying few as extras.
Hey Taryl, what type of cleaning fluid do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner for carbs. Many of us would love to know this? Thanks ahead of time. Even my wife loves your channel! Your the best! Been subscribed for quite awhile now to.
Taryl, What are the part numbers for the carb rebuild kit and the plastic float ? Love the video
Rebuild kit Part# 631021B
Float is a Stens part# 056-098
I am a grass rat in north east Indiana Steuben County. I am glad to see you offer some hard to find parts. I hope to see you in Portland some day.

I cleaned one of my minibike flat slide carbs today too - ultrasonic cleaner and the trusty torch tip cleaner....run better than new now
We don't get snow in Western Australia, but I sure know my way around a snow blower.
Good for another 30-40 years of work, nows there’s your dinner grass rats! Cheers.
I have 3 Ariens snowblower 7 hp and 8 hp , 1977 , all with points, still easy to find parts and work perfectly. But you have to take care of them and remove the gas at the end of the season. Montréal, Québec, Canada. Alain
Those drill bits you use are on coupon special from today through Jan 26 for $9.99. I just picked up two a couple hours ago. Cheaper and easier than sharpening.
That old machine is probably better than any of the new ones.
Good morning from Ontario, Canada!
I just repaired one of these and the thing was an absolute tank. I fixed it for my uncle. But it had a locking differential and was built so heavy duty compared to new snowblowers. I was very impressed by it.
It always amazes me how long Bowden cables last.
Like you said BACK in the day a crab kit had everything even the welch plugs for less that 4 bucks. Now they nickel and dime you to death. They no you need the stuff but want you to throw it away and buy new. As far as putting the seat in use the end of one of your drill sets. Grind the back flat if you want. I just used the end of the right drill size.
That vent hole has caused me a lot of pain. Thanks, buddy!
Holes causing men problems, what else is new.
1:55 heavy doodee?❤❤
amazon has the carpitrator tool 21.99 and aftermarket one for 3.38 go figure. love your videos
I have st824. Good machines.
That Ryobi air compressor is on sale for $25 at Home Depot right now.
Normally $40. Worth every penny.
Older Ariens?
Tecumseh Snow King?
Hell yeah! It's worth it. Seen how expensive new ones are?
Quality has gone south too.
Yep I'll keep my early 90s Snapper as long as I can. It would cost me well over a 1k to get something comparable. It can be annoying sometimes keeping it going but I'm getting my moneys worth considering I only paid 350 for it about 8 years ago.
Good morning from West Texas
I have done many of those an enjoyed fixing them.
