    I own a 2016 Kia Soul EV and Live in Austin Texas - drone pilot and
    Photographer - I deal with lots of batteries.... This thing is a dream
    car for me , I can charge my drone , charge all my gear and I drive
    around with a Battery storage generator that helps charge my gear as
    well before using my cars juice. Love Fully Charged and I love my Kia
    Soul EV .
    I now have 12,000 miles and i purchased it at 8,000
    ... had it since October 2018. I haven't paid for Gas or Electricity
    because I charge for free around Austin and its amazing. Zero Cost.

    Thank you for the great in-depth review. I've been considering moving to an EV from my 9-year old Civic Hybrid. You review on the EV's has helped me tremendously. Looks like I'm deciding between the Golf and the KIA Soul.

      Which one did you end up deciding on? I bought a used 2016 Kia Soul EV+ in 2020 with less than 18000 miles on it for about $13000 and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned, by far.

    I got to drive a few of these the other day while offloading a car ship. I liked it so much that I might get one. Every one that I got in has roughly 65% battery ad indicated a little over 70 miles of range. The position of the drivetrain selector and option to put it in neutral to coast what a pretty big plus to me.

    I recently drove a regular Kia Soul while on a long(ish) business trip and came away surprisingly impressed at how well-made and how intelligent the layout. You're not alone in liking the styling. I wouldn't trade my diesel GLK for one, but I wouldn't be unhappy if it came to that. To the point: I have recently decided that my next car will be electric. Like everyone, I'd like a Tesla 3, however the factory isn't yet out of the ground and 400k people are ahead of me, so I thought Chevy Bolt. Then I started noticing a lot of Kia EVs on the road, so now I'm reconsidering. When the Bolt becomes available I'll be comparing it with the Soul EV. Either way, I don't think I can lose.

    By the end of 2023, this EV is going to be approaching more and more that 10K price range for the 2015 model year, but is the best 10K spent in a 100,000 and under odometer , and can you truly tell the remaining lifespan of the battery like you can using the Nissan Leaf's app ?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому +2

    What about the Mercedes Benz SLS Electric Drive?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому +3

      ***** Well, I'm limiting this to EVs that are under the price of the Tesla. It's hard to get a Tesla out the door for less than $80,000, the i8 is a hybrid and the SLS is of course more than a Rolls Royce so it's not fair to compare.

    • @givesyouthechills
      @givesyouthechills 9 років тому +2

      Ah okay, you should explain that a bit more, lol. Still I think you should also do an in depth review on all those expensive EVs as well. Your fans would love it, and it'd be a blast for you.

      @InSaN3ViSioN 9 років тому +3

      Alex on Autos Its pretty easy to get a Tesla out the door under $80k. Its called CPO. Used 85's and P85's in the low $60,000's and high $50,000's with tons of options.

    • @givesyouthechills
      @givesyouthechills 9 років тому

      ***** Yeah I'm stuck between a new Model 3 or a used Model S for my next car ATM, mostly based off of the comparison between the two when the 3 debuts next March (hopefully). I've been saving for a long time.

    • @mmanjin
      @mmanjin 8 років тому

      +The Lavender Town Project I hate to burst your bubble but the model 3 won't be on the market until late 2017 at the earliest. For Tesla to bring the model 3 to market it needs to have the Giga battery factory completed and at full capacity and that won't happen until the latter part of 2017. Also, given Tesla's track record of not delivering when they say they will I wouldn't be surprised if the model 3 becomes available in 2018.

  • @starPacific
    @starPacific 9 років тому

    Hey Alex, how do you think the more affordable EV's like this will compete with Tesla once the Model 3 is released? If it offers better performance and luxury in a similar price range (I'm guessing around $30-50k) what incentive will people have to buy something like this anymore?

    • @TheMountainGarden
      @TheMountainGarden 9 років тому +2

      sonamara997 Without details it is hard to say, but the Model 3 is unlikely to be as inexpensive as Elon is saying unless something major happens in EV cost structures. The Model S is unprofitable by a wide margin and nothing they are doing will save enough to make a Model 3 profitable at the proposed $35,000 price point according to industry analysts. You can bet that for $35K the Model 3 won't have the same level of feature functionality as this group of EVs, that's the same thing that happens in the BMW, Mercedes and Audi models at $30,0000, you get base cars that encourage option buying. I suspect the average transaction price in the Model 3 will be more along the lines of $45-50K at which point there's still a big delta between something like a Soul EV at 25K after rebates and a 35-40K Model 3 after rebates.

    I have the basic model of this car - I love it! My two teens and toddler in a car seat can fit in the back almost-comfortably. LOL It looks like we live in the same area. Wave if you see me on the road! :)

    • @Jenni208
      @Jenni208 5 років тому

      Also the Leaf had a lot LESS room in the back seat. Maybe there is more square footage somehow, but you couldn't even sit in the middle rear seat in the Leaf. We couldn't even test drive it because we couldn't fit in the car. I'm only 5'2" and did not have enough head room. There's no way we could have fit a car seat back there with two passengers - they wouldn't have been able to buckle their seat belts. That was the deal-breaker for us on the Leaf and what led us toward the Kia Soul (which like you said, had a lot more features on the basic model). We've had it 4.5 years now and the battery capacity is still pretty good!

      @Jenni208 5 років тому

      We factored the cost of rental cars for long trips into the equation when we price compared this car with gasoline options. The Kia Soul EV still came out ahead. But we're not making several long trips a year - maybe just 2-3 max.

    Hi Alex, great review as always. Just a minor point - looking at Kia's website, it appears that the front seats are ventilated, but not actually cooled:
    www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/soul-ev/2015/features
    Is this consistent with your experience?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому +2

      David Cuccia True, it's a semantics thing I suppose. Manufacturers frequently use "cooled" and "ventilated" seats interchangeable as the ventilated option is seen as the opposite of heating the seat.

    • @dcuccia
      @dcuccia 9 років тому +1

      Alex on Autos Thanks. I asked, because I recall being underwhelmed by the ventilated drivers seat in a 2014 Genesis. Any car/trim that can actually pipe AC to my butt gets a major bump in desirability.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому +1

    The Chevy Volt is the best car there is besides the Model S. Volt is a cool car, Soul is not. And my matte grey Smart ED is better and cooler. Looks matter, this is a Kia first of all, and its not good looking. Ya its an EV, but not a cool one, yawn....

    Good car, but the Trunk is a joke.
