  • Hey Guys,
This is a video I have made going over a moog source that is for sale by Bailey Brothers Music Co. I repaired this unit for them to get it back into fully working order so whoever buys this synth will be happy with reliability.
Here is the info to contact Bailey Brothers Music Co for those interested:
    www.baileybrothers.com/locati...
(NOTE: this unit does not have MIDI, the Cassette interface is a Din connector like used for MIDI but it is not wired as such)
If the purchaser of this unit would like it upgraded with the later inputs/outputs, I do offer installation of those additional upgrades. this upgrade also includes DIN Sync drum interface like found on Roland equipment.
    Thanks for watching,
    Sincerely,
    Jareth

@14:24 ah yes, that familiar steam locomotive cycling white noise of the dreaded MM5837. Brings back memories of my Realistic/Moog MG-1.
Everything else sounds fantastic. I think that the Moog Source might be the only Moog that comes very close to a Minimoog D in terms of fat sounds! Thanks for sharing.

You are correct. Moog used that noise source in many of their synths including the Memorymoog. There is a different chip used in the some moog which didn't have that reset. I'm tempted to build a replacement discrete noise source that plugs in place of the chip.
      Thanks Alain🙂

Sounds wonderful, nice work! I never realized TRS stood for tip, ring, sleeve, so glad you mentioned that.

Thank you very much!! I'm happy my video helped with the TRS term...just to add to this TRS is also referred to as stereo in some cases and then you have TS, (Tip, Sleeve) which is mono.
      Thanks for watching.

Wow, that parameter knob has some fine grain control. Unique design.

It's a very interesting design for sure. This uses an optical encoding design where there is actually a clear disc with stripes and two different optical sensors which picks up the phase differences of the encoder. It was fairly advance for the time.

I love these synths so much. So underrated and very funky machines. I have a late one.
I’ve never had any luck with the cv. Interesting you mention the trs. Any way I can get my Arturia keystep pro which has eurorack mini jacks to work with it? They’re mono jacks but the Moog uses stereo as you pointed out. I would love to be integrate this with the rest of my set up. Thanks

    • @synthpro
      @synthpro  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Dan,
Does the keystep send CV? Not familiar with modern controllers. If it does send CV what you can do is get a cable that goes from TRS to two TS splits, (this would typically be a Left/Right channel split cable from a TRS) one of the splits would be CV in and the other will be CV out.
In order to make a keystep pro to work, you would need to use this cable and add a 10k pot in series(carbon track from keystep and wiper to source).
You would hit the lowest note on the keystep and hit the same note reference on the moog source and then use the sources fine tune knob to match frequency reference.
Then hit highest note on the keystep and use the added 10k pot for correct frequency from the source.
Repeate these last two steps until you have perfect tracking of frequency.
(NOTE: for best results, use only oscillator 1 during this process)
If this doesn't track correctly in this configuration, you may either have the wrong V/Oct from the keystep or it may require a extra circuit.
      Hope this helps.

@@synthpro thanks so much for your response. Yes the Keystep sends out cv and gate via mini jack. These use ts jacks, so I would need to get ts to trs? Thanks again. I love all your videos.
Best wishes from across the pond.

@@theoriginaldanalogue Your welcome. You are correct, if you had to you can get a mini TRS to mini TS split and then use a converter from mini TRS to 1/4" TRS like what most headphones require.

@@synthpro yes the Keystep Pro does send CV on 3.5mm mini plugs....... i have one, and a Beatstep Pro.......
do you do the CV mods for Prodigy's ?????
my Prodigy is a very low serial number and no i/o(cv/vtrig/strig/etc)..... we can go over this when i call yall on Monday Feb20 2021.

You will have to check with Bailey Bro's Music Co. To see if it's still available, I just serviced it and shipped it back to them.

Awesome video! Would love to pick it up if I wasn't so broke, always thought the source was real neat!
Was also just wondering if you were based in Bama since you were doing work for Bailey Brothers. I'm in Bham myself.

I'd rather buy one with battle scars then pristine.
It's a musical tool, not a museum piece. Yet
