That thing didnt work for me. I put it under the doorknob and unlocked the door and cracked the door a little. I went out side and tried pushing the door and after I kept pushing more and more it came loose and the door came wide open. I ended up throwing it away. This was a waste of money!
I personally find, that this security system works extremely well . I have 3 in my house, and am very pleased with the ability to secure my doors with ease.
How do you prevent the bottom from sliding on tile?
how was it defeated? The only complaint I'm seeing is that some older models have some play between the bars so the spring loaded pin can be defeated. If that's the failure point, I can easy put a pin in one of the other predrilled holes or a screw in a thick screw/bolt so if the spring loaded pin fails, The added pin or screw won't fail and allow the bar to compress.

It is a pretty good item. Couple of things though. You have to make sure the rubber pad of the blocker is clean (relatively at least), as well as the floor or else it will not hold. Also, be careful about knocking it into place to hard. I did it one too many times, ended up crimping my door handle plate and the next time I pulled on my door knob it fell off in my hand. I had to buy a similar knob to fit my door handle. Still, there are more pluses than minuses to this item. I am looking into installing a security bar though.
How do you clean the pad?

when i wedge mine in the door, it just slides on the floor and opens the door. The rubber bottom just pushes and slides when they open it.

Would be nice to know if it was strength tested and if so how many lbs. was it rated at?

This thing is not designed well. The knob that adjusts the length is supposed to lock into place but it is more of a nub that wobbles and feels like it can easily slip back into the hole. So basically the reinforcement strength of the stick relies on this little nub. Get the Buddy Bar instead. It is $80 but heavy duty.
My review is based on the product as it comes from the store. If you have make DIY changes like removing a part and extra drilling that means it is not designed well. That being said your changes would definitely improve the strength of the stick.
Does it work on smooth tile surfaces?
John, I had to use a slip-proof mouse pad under mine when I lived in a home with tile floors, then it worked perfectly, otherwise it does slip & become pretty useless. HTH.

Useless, use something everybody can use in the family and also faster too do, this you won't use in day time. Too much work. There are better ways
