Yeeeees!! TOTP - one of the rare occasions they had someone good on!! Ok i admit i only saw them on the replays in the 80s/90s 😅 Always wondered what the hell happened to them. Love from north London 💙
Althea! 🎉 I can hardly contain my excitement seeing you again after all these years! It feels like just yesterday we were laughing our way through afternoon classes at Queen’s High. Your energy and that dazzling smile still light up the room! It's incredible that UA-cam has brought your story back to life, allowing you both to earn what you deserve! 🌟 I can't wait to hear about your next performance-keep shining, Nuff Respect my friend💖
The mere fact they remained tight friends all these years is comforting to their fans old and new. So many times winning and beloved partnerships are broken apart by rivalry or jealousy, depriving fans of what could have been more hits and fruitful collaborations.
The *"I'm Still In Love With You"* was a massive riddim in the late 70s. I would've been around 9 years old at the time but boy, it was everywhere. It was around the same time the *"Death In The Arena"* riddim made a massive comeback thanks to cuts from Johnny Clarke, Linval Thompson, Jah Buzz, etc. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I was so happy to see this tune in the UK charts and on the Top of the Pops, could not help but learn this tune word for word, even as a young child I knew history was being made, Junior Murvin - Police and Thieves was another cross over tune that was in the UK charts :)
I'm so happy for this video, never saw those girls again from high school days . Donna was my classmate from the Queens School in Kingston. I have to share this video!
I have a very large reggae collection and this record has a very special place in it. As you say they weren’t the best singers but their attitude and vibe comes through in spades, it’s well recorded and the basslines are killer. Would love to catch them live
Still gets people on the dance floor. I had a radio show called " Uptown Top Ranking " and I still love that song. Side note Alton had to sue the record company to get paid for Sean Paul's cover.
Wow ! Mrs. Althea was a neighbor of mine in the Bronx ! She was the cool Jamaican lady from the “alley “ a big building on Anderson avenue in the Bronx, right across the street from the building where they filmed the …Joker ! Glad to see them still on the scene. Big Up Ms. Althea and Ms.Donna .
Interesting and respectful tribute. I was 13 when 'Uptown too ranking' released here in the UK. I've still got my 7" vinyl copy and it sounds as exciting now as it did then. Thanks for the update.
Thank you so much RAS! Insightful look into the history and effect of Althea & Donna and their brief but significant rule of the pop charts. Glad to see them still in good vibes and giving positive energy to the people decades later, salutes.
I’ve always wondered what happened to this duo so was pleased to see such an informative video. Your appreciation of reggae music is evident. Thank you for this🙏🏾. You’ve gained a new follower who looking forward to watching all your videos once I’ve gone back and seen the previous ones🥰
Yeah loved this record My wife and I used to go to a Jamaican club in Tottenham.. would always dance in the centre of the floor.. and for a white couple , we drew enormous but delightful curiosity.. we were well practice in the reggae dancing style.. and sometimes the manager would chuck the spotlight onto us. Our little moment of fame.. but charming memories of those times.
They look like the group floetry (marsha ambrosious and natalie stewart )30 years prior to them coming out. Funny, they were born the year this group came out with their smash hit.
What it is, is what it is!! They're worth their weight in gold and more. They came out with a blast and were an attractive pair then, and still is now!! Long life to them both and continual health, strength and successes for every good things they ventures. P.S. In their earlier heyday, I heard that Jacob Miller was in a relationship with one of them but maybe wasn't completely approved because of his rebel affiliation. So I've heard.
Oh yeah, I recall the popularity of the song. Even Rank Group Plc, a British Gambling Company, got some free publicity due to the name. Everyone loved the girls.
@Reggae Appreciation could u please at least play the song msybe ar the intri of ur vids next time, had to search for the song..😂 BIG CHUNE, grew up on these songs, Kgn 13 early 1980's great good memories.
I'm at a want to actually identify another great track from these girls. One album and one notable hit, not enough to be genuine superstars much like another female Reggae ensemble, Brown Sugar from the UK...Credit to them though for making the best out of Alton Ellis' riddim and contributions in promoting Reggae internationally.
They did have another hit called “uptown ranking business and incidentally the punk group the members who had hit with sound of the suburbs did a parody of Althea and donna’s uptown ranking business and called it offshore banking business.
😹.."A sign of the times!" to achieve, what they accomplished is 100%! Genuine Superstars!💥.. There's plenty artist/groups with just "one hit" & only! one album released!🤣

I am glad they had full productive lives, unlike a lot of people in the music business.
The mere fact they remained tight friends all these years is comforting to their fans old and new.

Same. Grew up in Hackney, listening to this. Think my mum might still have the original 7", not sure. Didn't appreciate it then, but I do now.
