I love Austin's newsletter.- it's one of the few things that I take the time to look at nearly every day. I love how he's so focused on process, and on finding different gateways to get into your process, but most of all, I love how he follows the threads of the things that interest him, and he weaves them into something completely original.
Listening to this interview is like oxygen for creating: show up and do something . . . 🙏 Mr. Kleon and Mr. Wilton have parsed out what arenas confidence truly lives in and where it isn't necessarily needed.
So on board with the "just get doing", thinking that an invisible organ is Intuition. Head for decisions and analysis, heart for feeling and empathy, hands for doing, but Inspiration as the message. We need to give attention and listen to the inspiration as it comes; obey the voice. Giving more weight to the execution of that voice before all else, staying faithful and trusting that the process will fulfill, and will touch someone with the end result.
Fantastic lesson on keeping your hands busy, staying in motion, and not overthinking the process. It’s so good to be reminded of these basic tenants of creativity. I look forward to Austin’s newsletter!
I could have listened to this discussion all day. I was in 4H!!! I had not thought about 4H for years. So true about keeping the hands busy. Thank you. 🙏💕
What a wonderful interview! Austin's hints for optimum productivity are so spot-on, aligning head, heart, hands, time, space and materials...looking back, my best work comes when all those are present. Thank you for sharing!
I seriously had to stop, rewind and pause it a few times to write down and take in what you said. I let way too many things keep me from being creative and overwhelm me. I just get to the point where I shut down and watch Psych reruns. 😂 I need a better plan to allow the creativity in, both mentally and physically. I jotted it down and will post it once a week in my planner to keep myself from being paralyzed and not creating. Thanks so much! 😁
Awesome conversation!! Austin's newsletters are so creative with great links to art, music, film and cool ideas. He always offers something fresh that is new, at least to me. Thanks!!
Thank you Austin and Nicholas! I love the head - heart - hands adaptation from 4H! My daughter & I say the pledges every month at our 4H meetings but never made the connection to art making specifically ❤️. I am also inspired to set up my workspace to take advantage of those micro-sessions and see where that leads me ✨. Thanks again!
I thank you and Austin because his tips are so out of the box that I need to buy the books . He refer one formula , follow our heart accepting our intuition, having quality time, and a space and materials .
Just the things I needed to hear! "I am a deeply lazy person"...haha, you mean I'm not the only one? Every little bit that Austin shared was encouraging, down to earth and doable. Finally, rather than fighting myself, I can use everything to my advantage. Thank you for a great interview!
AWESOME talk, it’s a Sunday morning here in NZ and it’s refreshing to hear this talk about head, heart and 🙌 . I also get accused of being lazy whilst lying on the couch with my eyes closed, my come back is “I’m working!!!” This time is very constructive to my process and without it I would be blundering through a piece without taking time to plan a little and make it mine. Thanks guys, would love a set of these books. :)) kia kaha.
Another great interview - thank you Nick and Austin! I love the focusing power of head-heart-hand. I’m one to feed my head more than heart and hand, so wise words for me as I search for balance. Or maybe “integration” is a better word for life=art=life.
very interesting interview...thank you! I have read Austin's first two books...borrowed them from our local library. I would love to have my own copies! I didn't realize he had a newsletter, and have just signed up.
Love this interview! The whole confidence thing is really interesting- as an artist you feel you have to do so many things in a certain way. Like feeling like you have to create work that galleries will want to show & that people will want to buy. But if you step away from all that & just believe in yourself, make time to create, practice what you love then you go on an incredible learning journey. I’ve learnt so much from what you both discussed & the short time I’ve been part of the A2L courses, can’t wait for the next workshop in Feb!
I completely agree with the Con in confidence, confidence is smoke and mirrors, an artifact of ego? best not to spend time on it. (my message to me in this writing.)
Thanks, Austin and Nick for creating a better understanding not only of 4H but of the joy created by living a holistic arts experience..

Super messages!! Helpful and thoughtful...thank you both!

Really appreciate the discussion on grabbing chunks of time and space that work for your life.
Reading Austin's work always inspires me.

Art and life ARE interwoven. I woke up this morning remembering my dream of painting. I love how my art is part of my Life's Tapestry.
Great stuff! I have Steal and Show but not Keep Going. Will sign up for newsletter for sure! Thanks to you both for this interview! 🙂
Austin’s books practice what he preaches. They are great to flip open read a page or 10 and then get moving!!

Oh, I also had to laugh at the idea of work/life "balance"!
Wonderful!
Love this!! What good advice: head, hands & heart.

Very interesting. Looks like I need to purchase a new book.

such inspiring words, thanks .
Thank you.
For me it's not about confidence in my.art, but in how to get it seen and purchased
