Thank you for sharing the comparison. I play piano for decades, B&W and Yamaha are definitely amongst a few of the products on the market that replicate the sound truthfully, even in more pricier range.
Gee, I thought it was only me. I have tried a myriad of speakers some even more expensive and overall better than B&Ws (talking about high end 700/800 series). The other speakers may sound better (not always) on dance, pop, rock, blues, metal, reggae, jazz genres whatever. But when it comes to piano (especially classical) the B&Ws wipe the floor. I was listening to a Chopin Piano Concerto by Hayato Sumino a few weeks ago on the 801s (powered by Classe Audio) and I swear it felt like the piano was in the room. That day I had just come off from a practice session on a Steinway D and the tone resemblance/recreation in the room was goosebump-mind blowing. No other speaker has achieved that. Note: as a pianist myself I am think of pulling the trigger for that weird characteristic alone, even if all other instruments are not so well represented (which is not entirely true).
Interesting. Is there any room treatment? Either way one can really tell the difference in character, lots of mid-bass and "cramped" vs open and airy, and "live".
Well it's all going to be subjective. The 805 is more rolled off at the top, tones are more rounded as is the bass, fuller ! the ns3000 sharper more open top end, midrange well balanced and tighter bass but not as full as the 805 ! How did i go ? 🙂
yamaha's are a bit more natural sounding but also a bit muddier. the B&Ws have a more "sculpted" sound: faster transient attack...which is nice...but also a curse as it can be fatiguing. easier to pinpoint instruments on the B&Ws. hard to choose a clear favorite.
I found that the Bowers And Wilkins 805 D4 were more open and more clear, more natural sounding not harsh compared to the Yamaha. I also felt that the Yamaha felt more like a boxy sound.
BnW with warmer tone and more bass, Yamaha with more Hi and Mid range, sound stage BnW is much bigger, Yamaha is much closer with monitor and shaper, BnW with better live atmosphere but I'm so impressed about the yamaha's bass is not bad though!!
The 805 might need a bit more toe-in? Which means they might not be all that good off axis? The bass and midrange, albeit the muffled treble, was preferred over the Yamaha, it seems to pack more punch. Yamaha had a sweet treble, maybe a tad too much? 805 isn't known to hold back on the treble.. Maybe it's the room, but I got curious about the 805. Both are great, I would never make a decision on them with just one listening on yt. I like how both respond to the rhythm, maybe I liked the 805 a bit more. Then again, vocals on Yamaha is pretty great. Seems open and airy. Anyway, I am going Triangle.. Wish me luck :D

Both are a bit bright to me. Of the two I would get the Yamaha.

When you listen to the rimshot and snare - the Yamaha is more dynamic and faster...
Yamaha ☝️🏆👌
Yam are much more clear ! With B&W speakers, sounds seem muffled (especially bass).
A surprise to me.
Yamaha better
Jak dla mnie Yamaha lepiej, średnicę ma lepszą 👍
ale z górą nikt nie pokona bowersów
Good work
On my Monitor Audio RX8 the Yamaha sounds way better. Amp is Pioneer vsx-922 in "analog direct" mode.
Sounds all great😅 nice 👍
Super intéressant au vu de la différence de prix !

Finally somebody heard the boxy sound on the yamaha
I felt just like you!
Yamaha full spectrum sound compared to B&W.

talking about sound stage in a recorded video is just hillarious..
