I came to both of your channels separately I love them both I even save them on my same playlist. It's great to see that you guys know each other and get along so so great!
i just discovered this video and it has helped me A LOT i think anyone looking to make variations in boring 3 chord songs should follow these tricks its really useful thank u
Bugger, bugger, bugger..... I'm keeping a word doc with clips I HAVE to go back to, this one now pops the list into the second page. I keep telling myself I need to stop watching these vid's and practice, practice, practice. But I hear them calling me, every time I sit down to do my emails at night. Thanks so much, I learn so much every time.
I actually play the Major 7 the way Ian showed instinctively. Its also really easy to access and its a familiar shape if you do barre chords its pretty easy to get down quickly. I have learned the other ways of playing it, but its my favorite way to play it.
Cool instructional! I just found the Ab add 9 @ 6th fret that seems to fit the theme of this vid. Can you guys do a video about “climbing” up the neck holding a shape, and where the chord shape needs to change a bit to suit the progression.
These videos make it seem like you have the best time hanging out with each other. Hard to believe you're actually sworn enemies who stalk off to their separate trailers the minute the red light winks out. But contracts have to be honored, I guess.
Ian- that was an amazing Sean Daniels impersonation! I did a double take when the video started, thinking you were miming the motions as he spoke (but his lips weren't moving...)
😎 lesson.happy to say I knew most of these.from my resent chord study.lol.the first chord Sean did the CSus could also be a fmaj9 if you throw in the a also
Good advice on giving the bass player room. I've never played or jammed on stage yet so that's going to matter when I do get confident enough to get out there.
Wow Sean, way to hold in the laughter. Lmao. The look on your face was awesome. Lmao. Ian, love the pipe, nice touch with using the prop. The voice was funny, sounded like a snooty/salty thing going on. Anyway, great stuff guys
Technically you'd be looking at form 5 dorian if I understand your question correctly. If we taking D dorian (D E F G A B C), that's the same as A minor (A B C D E F G).
I’m trying too write a song. in the verse I got A and G over and over what can I use for a chorus? Am I in the key of A? Or could it be something else. It’s a mildly moody rock song trying too convey strength any advice would be greatly appreciated
Well if you're using an A and a G, you're most likely using the 5 and 4 chords in the key of D. So you're options would be D major, E minor, F# minor and B minor
Just when you think your getting a handle on this you learn you can suspend 7th chords as well... Let me guess, you can also augment these chords like a (Cb-sus2-dominant7th-add11)? Then what, you can resolve that twice with a pull-off to resolve the sus, then transitioning to an A major 7th? Screw this, I'm having an early night.
Sean Daniel Would the Mighty Dragon grant me a request? I would like a week dedication to the man that got me into music, Billy Joel. I would/could say Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey, but I know you don't know anything about Blues....
Sean Daniel you dubes rock, .I love you guys, if you don't mind, how about a tutorial on "since I don't have you" G&R style, already suscribed & rocking with you guys, thanks.
First time a clickbait title is an understatement. These are great voicings to make intermediate players believe I'm way more advanced than them. Thank you
Thanks Sean, it does make me have to think a bit, I saw a G Dorian chart and the form 4 in this chart looked alot like the full minor diatonic scale Ian showed on his Peter Green/ Santana video to solo over minor blues. Thanks for the response , I appreciate what you guys do and enjoy all your video's, I grew up in Hawaii and alot of the contemporary music there utilizes major 7th chords, I think I learned to play them before I learned any theory, you rock Brah!
The Prestige was one of those movies you thought this is going to be great, how could they possibly stuff this up. Then after I was thinking they stuffed this up!
Good thanks! :D I was watching your videos on piano/keyboard and found them interesting. I'm not very good lol! Any tips for someone just starting out?
So cool to hear! I personally think it's ALL about learning how to build/play chords. You can play a simplified version of any song with basic chords. So pick a song you like and try playing along (or singing along yourself) by just playing the simple major or minor chord along with it. Just keep practicing and you'll be rocking it in no time!
damn ian's got a 10/10 sean daniel impression
He's been practicing :)
pls more of these. i love the dynamic of u 2.
Thanks so much! Hopefully we'll get together again this week.
Your openings are always fantastic, but this one was next level, and I have no idea how to explain why.
Gotta hand it to Ian for that great impression!
I came to both of your channels separately I love them both I even save them on my same playlist. It's great to see that you guys know each other and get along so so great!
Jazz guitarists are still waiting for the unusual chords in this video.
Jazz guitarists already know :)
i just discovered this video and
it has helped me A LOT

Thanks so much, I learn so much every time.
I had to come back and watch the intro again. I can honestly say, I've never seen a more eloquent or interesting opening!
haha, I appreciate it :)

Definitely an all-timer
for me you both are legends. thanks for this awesome video. wish i can hang out with you guys one day with a guitar.
Thanks so much!

Great idea for a video Randall!
Trick at the 9:40 - you can find it in the song Chasing car by Snow Patrol, it's just that it's arpegiated.
I loved Ian's intro. Another amazing video guys
Thanks so much!
Going to have to watch that like 100 times but great content again guys! Thanks
Happy to help :)

These chords are like pipes... Ian looked like the wisest man alive with that pipe on his hand
It's a great look on him.
Yes, especially when he pointed the pipe to his forehead to emphasize a point. Tres Wise!
😎 lesson.happy to say I knew most of these.from my resent chord study.lol.the first chord Sean did the CSus could also be a fmaj9 if you throw in the a also
Right on Michael!
You guys are the best. Both channels are great
Thanks so much Ethan!
Good advice on giving the bass player room. I've never played or jammed on stage yet so that's going to matter when I do get confident enough to get out there.
Do it soon!
This is the most entertaining duo in guitar instruction. I know small world, but still.
Haha, thanks so much! Love Ian.
Wow Sean, way to hold in the laughter. Lmao. The look on your face was awesome. Lmao.
Ian, love the pipe, nice touch with using the prop.
The voice was funny, sounded like a snooty/salty thing going on.
Anyway, great stuff guys
Thanks as always Joe!
Magical. Thanks for sharing.
Always happy to suspend the belief Lee!
Dude, Karl Marx does a great impression of Sean Daniel.
Underrated comment

Thanks for your videos. Just subscribed! I need to get my theory strong on guitar!
Welcome to the party!
This one is truly MAGICAL.
You 2 have such great collabs! How close do you live to each other?
About 25 minutes away.
Very cool video but the best thing is watching Sean try not to laugh at the beginning.
It's tough :)
Thanks a lot...I can use this, so much ! Andreas from Hamburg.
Happy to help!
The funniest guitar lesson of all time! Thanks guys.
Thanks so much!!!
You guys rock..
Thanks so much Simon!
I was in such a songwriting rut until I found your channel. Thanks for all you do.
So great to hear Sarah! Thanks for watching!
If you move up the open C chord shape to the tenth fret, you get an unusual sounding Em!
Good tip!
Damn couldn't stop laughing at 8:37 guitar sound. Great Content by the way, like always.
That's the first intro by Ian actually by Sean..Watched it so many times..hilarious..those chords are hallucinatory..
Thanks for checking it out Farha :)
Great video.... cool Lacoste shirt.
Thanks so much! Gotta b stylin.
Great video! So the first chord you are showing is both a cmaj + F as a Fsus2maj7? And it can be replaced by a F but can it also replace a C?
Yes it can!
o, O, OH, It's MAGIC
You kno-o-o-ow!
Yanno!
Classic.
Ian Bairnson. Beautiful melodic solos.
Oh great. Now I have to play my guitar for three more hours. Why do you guys always have to teach such awesome stuff?
Sorry to keep ya up!
Hey Ian,
would it be safe to say that the form 4 dorian mode/scale the same as a minor diatonic scale, not sure if that makes sense?
Technically you'd be looking at form 5 dorian if I understand your question correctly. If we taking D dorian (D E F G A B C), that's the same as A minor (A B C D E F G).
seriously that was a good video guys !
Thanks so much David.
"inversion illusion"
I am using that at the next jam. :-)
ps, can you show us some of the outtakes from that intro? I don't believe you guys got through it without cracking up at least once :)
Oh we were dying just talking about the idea! But Ian actually nailed it first time I think :)
So amazing ..
Thanks for checking it out!
Wow...what wizardry is this? Awesome! Also Prestige > Memento. Thank you both for a great lesson!
It's close but I can't go that far, both great though.
Nice exit 👍

The Ed Norton movie was The Illusionist. Never saw it, just had to get that off my chest.
Good call. Thanks.
Just when you think your getting a handle on this you learn you can suspend 7th chords as well... Let me guess, you can also augment these chords like a (Cb-sus2-dominant7th-add11)? Haha, one step at a time.
Better lighting, but awesome video!!!
Thanks for watching!
Ian basically playing the intro to By The Way by RHCP at the end there.
That's how he does it!
AWEEEEEEEEEE!! Magic!!!!
:)
Sean Daniel Would the Mighty Dragon grant me a request? I would like a week dedication to the man that got me into music, Billy Joel. I would/could say Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey, but I know you don't know anything about Blues....

First time a clickbait title is an understatement. These are great voicings to make intermediate players believe I'm way more advanced than them. Thank you
Thanks so much for watching!
Def Leppard do a _heap_ of those power chord types at the end of _Woman_ - ua-cam.com/video/GUd3LAFXt5g/v-deo.htmlm7s
They definitely use that a lot :)
044100 in standard tuning
Definitely a good one.
i see the comment and i am shock that people actually understand what they are talking about. its freaking rocket science to me
Wait... yah... cool I just had a thought! A light bulb moment. Thx.
So cool to hear!
Ok so big take away
Cheap is good?
How did you guys learn my method of finding the women in my life?
Oooooooooooo
Hey oh!
Trick, Ian. An illusion is something a guitar player does for money... Or candy!
THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
1:40 sean:this is a C major chord
ian: C major chord I can C that lol thats corny
its The Illusionist for Ed norton not the Magician bro.
Got it! I've never seen that actually.
Dude! You remind me of Jerry Garcia with that beard. How about a grateful dead vid?
I can C that 😂 1:41
No man. No...
Hey oh
Didn't C the time reference. Peace and love. Love u Sean. Love u Atul
I had to edit it for people to get the joke 😂 cool man 😉
9:41 Red Hot Chili Peppers haha
You know it!
Please make Ian say smell, just, one, more, time. +:>
I'll do what I can!
and btw that was an amazing, super human effort keeping a straight face there at 0:15s
I definitely see why you get compared to Chris pratt
Haha, yeah.
Ian, I think it's illegal to own a pipe in Florida . Be careful dude :/
Haha, he keeps it under wraps :)
Interesting, Stich is a pipe smoker!
You could've guessed :)
meathead is pretty good
:)
These are so 90s lol
That's how we do.
Sorry Sean, the question was for you as well.
Thanks Sean, it does make me have to think a bit, I saw a G Dorian chart and the form 4 in this chart looked alot like the full minor diatonic scale Ian showed on his Peter Green/ Santana video to solo over minor blues. talks like hes from Austin
The Prestige was one of those movies you thought this is going to be great, how could they possibly stuff this up. Then after I was thinking they stuffed this up!
I respectfully disagree. I love that movie.
Hey, probably won’t notice me but I love your stuff. Would like to msg. :)
What up Bonnie? How's it going :)
Damn, Sean, you reply to the hottie in seconds while the rest of us loyal subscribers have to wait days. WTF?! :-)
Good thanks! :D I was watching your videos on piano/keyboard and found them interesting. I'm not very good lol! Any tips for someone just starting out?

Pretty cheesy 😉
It's what we do best :)
I liked this so you could move past 666 likes.
Phew, thanks!
😂😂
Thanks for checking it out :)
U look annoyed by him
Always :)
I can tell Ian rarely plays acoustic
First five frets are the money -- open ringy and clean
You know it ;)
F/c right first chord
