Hamish Graham and Ray Getz who were growing 50 acres of Haskap also known as the Blue Honeysuckle at Birch Hills, SK. This berry crop has more than double the anti-oxidants of blueberries. It appears to be a very hardy crop and does well in the western Canadian prairie climate. View an entire harvest sequence of this unique crop. Most of the Haskap production is being shipped to Japan with some to the United States.

good industry to get into in the US, its not totally taped yet and can add much needed diversity to our corn belt in midwestren states.

Why are the rows so far apart? Seems like a heck of a lot of wasted space.

Water...water...and water...on a timer every day...only way to get them the size of a thumbnail.

I was looking into buying a farm and doing exactly this here in Alberta about 2 years ago. Did a fair amount of research over a year or two. Then the NDP got voted in with a majority. It was a rather large risk as it was, but that made it so much more risky. I've settled with sticking with my desk job and a few Haskap in my back yard. (Borealis and Aurora)
Nice to see your operation going strong. :-)
Just out of curiosity, how are you handling the storage of the berries? Oh, and the birds. Dam little buggers are a pain.

@@MrMawnster Because they are thieves. If you put money into something taxes will ensure you don't get your profits from it.

@@MrMawnster NDP killed the coal industry and hundreds lost their jobs; they did such an abyssmal job of handling natural resources that they were voted OUT at the next election; everyone was fed up with them

I've got fifteen males are higher than females this year the ones that are four years the male is seven feet and females around four they are probable going to gain a foot or more will know more about them this year they all blossomed but so far never had many only a few hope to get more berries this year I'm from southwest Nova Scotia I'm expecting more by the size of them I mean the ones that are four years old they grow very good in my back yard.

There is no such thing as a 'male' and 'female' haskap. Different varieties pollinize other varieties, based on their origins. For example, the predominantly Russian cultivar would pollinize the predominantly Japanese one. If a nursery is selling 'male and female', they are misinformed.
