    Hey I’ve got a question, I’m sorta new to diabetes and have only had my libre 2 for a few months 🥲😅. But why are people saying you can’t get your sensor too far away from your phone (or whatever device you use) and that it should be within a certain range at all times?

    From someone who is currently getting the freestyle Libre 2 free on the NHS, would the dexcom g6 be a worth while upgrade ? I would have to self fund it (my new job has health insurance which I may be able to get it paid for through that, but I’m not counting on it)

    I do calibrate but not very often. If my DG6 tells me I’m higher or lower and going out of range than I realistically think I am I will calibrate to avoid treating unnecessarily. Also I will do it so it doesn’t skew my stats on Clarity.

    Hi Tom. 've been using the G6 for just over 2 months now. I came over from FS Libre. I have relly been happy with it. I set up an alert schedule on my G6 so that I only get an alert at night if I am way out of wack. My day schedule is set much tighter because being type 2 I am trying to keep my day time highs under 145. That way if I screwup at night and my readings are a little high it doesn't wake me up. But during the day when I can be much more on top of things I can maintain a 70-130. I've also gotten used to wearing a t shirt with a pocket in it at night to hold my phone or meter to keep from getting signal loss alerts that bother my wife.
    One thing I was wondering was have you experimented placing the new sensor on a day early and not activating it till the old one expires. It might this help get through the first 24 hrs of placement so that when we activate it and insert the transmitter it will have had time to adjust to our body. Sort of like you suggested with the freestyle.
    One last thing I know that the transmitters are good for 3 months but I'm figuring that the only reason to replace them is because the transmitter battery is not powering the signal any longer. Can I just use it till it dies? and if so how long do they last, actually? I have a new transmitter change in about 3 weeks.
    Thanks for all your help!

      Putting the sensor in 24 hours in advance sounds like a good idea. But that little tab with the two contacts on it all exposed seem really fragile to me. Do you use a bandaid over it to protect it during those 24 hours of open time? Curious minds need to know!

    • @TypeOneTalks
      @TypeOneTalks  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for sharing! From my experience the transmitter lasts 110 days. I used it once till it died and the only thing is that if it dies in the middle of the sensor lifetime the sensor will not continue to work with a new transmitter. so you would need to restart the sensor when you change the transmitter. Hope this makes sense.
      I do not apply 24 hours in advance for the same reason @Dwight L mentioned. I don't want the contacts uncovered.

    Dexcom says you don’t have to calibrate. However I am using my dexcom 6 for the first time and is giving insane readings. They are 25 to 30 points off from my glocometer and are continuously changing within minutes. What is wrong.

    I got my h1c checked and my doctor was shocked to see that my numbers had dropped. I was 11.4 and now I’m 8.4. I still have to work on it some more but at this rate I will be in the normal range in the next 3 -6 months.

      Congratulations. Good for you. I’m jealous. My son has tried the g6 a few times inserting it in his arm. It caused too much pain. He won’t try it on his stomach. He’s afraid it will be too intrusive. He’s doing everything the hard way especially injections. So good for you for figuring things out. It’s such a tough road that people don’t appreciate. I hate it when people compare their type 2 with others who have type too. Done with my rant

    as a type 1 diabetic who struggles to not sneak or eat stuff im not supposed to i was looking forward to the dexcom because my mother dearst told me it would be eaiser so i wouldnt have to do the math and correction AND do the pen shot (which in my opinion is always annoying) but nah insurance was being stupid so now i gotta wait another 2 years for me to get 1 and even then idk if imma get one (im 12 btw) so pray for me 😂😂. but anyways love the content helps alot :)
    edit: if i play sports like volleyball would constant impact to the sensor damage or effect iit due to me constantly throwing myself on the floor, and since i cant carry a phone in my pocket or insulin pump throughout a game would that mean whomever has my devvice cant see my numbers cuz of the poor tracking

    Hi Tom, I just got the Dexcom G6 because of you and your vid on resetting it and was sadden to hear that now your information (using a new code) was causing in accurate readings. How in accurate do you think resetting the G6 will cause? I'm been using the Libra #1 as my way to know what my BS are and that last 14 days and the G6 only 10, maybe that new info about using an reset code to get up to 10 more days is still very close enough as these devices are about 20% accurate as a test strip and that's not 100% accurate either so maybe 30% when using a old code to reset the G6 is still acceptable? Anybody have more info as I spent much more for the G6 setup.

      I have been restarting my sensors but I always use the original code for that sensor and check it against my meter for accuracy. So far it has worked for me.

      I have a note file on my phone that I record my current sensor code in. When restarting I know the code number of the sensor I'm restarting and use that number again. I have kept that list for quite some time (since 2-4-20) and so far have come across 9 different codes in 48 new sensors. Absolutely believe that number is determined by pretesting at the factory. Also taking a picture of that code number would also suffice.

      I think it is very individual and I don't think there is an exact % for this. For me, best is to calibrate if the readings are notably off.

  • @gonefishin6004

    I don't agree with you telling people not to calibrate in the first 24 hours. I find if I do a calibration right after the sensor is activated it quickly syncs up and becomes alot more accurate within a few hours. If I don't do it then its way off for more than half the day. - I also am able to shower while my phone is charging in the adjacent room and it never looses connectivity. Upgrade to a newer model phone will provide you with a stronger more stable bluetooth signal. I also keep my phone in my back pocket and never have issues.

    I'm type 2 diabetic and what I learned from the video is Dexcom G6 is not for me. Way to complicated. In today's technology all I want to do is put it on and forget about it. All the mistakes you pointed out can easily happen and makes monitoring a pain. From your other videos the Libre 3 (when it comes out in America), seems a better option, but I not sure the technology is there yet even on that device. I want a device that gives me accurate reading (within 20%) will last for at least 30 days, will calibrate itself, and has a strong signal. I guess that is to much to ask so I'll stay with finger pricks

    • @timpedzinski230
      @timpedzinski230 2 роки тому +1

      Bob I think you may have missed the point. Al CGM's have an allowable accuracy range. After all 2 different meters can give you different numbers from he same blood sample. The Libre is no exception. I was on the 15 day and had a couple of times my Libre and meter were way apart.. I do hear you though about the state of tec we have but untill our bodies come equipted with data ports from the factory (at birth) I think we just have to use what we have available.
      I am alsp type 2 and the best thing for us is a low carb diet thst we cam live with. Most type 2's can beat diabetes if they are willing to do the work. But as Tom says "I'm not a medical professional I'm just a guy and this is my experience."

    • @robgerber9215
      @robgerber9215 2 роки тому

      @@timpedzinski230 Thank you for your response. Lets agree to disagree .
      1) Better CGM are on the horizon 2)) Silly response about until bodies have data ports. New early stage CGM's like Eversense (90 days and testing 1 year) seems leading the way to meet my future requirements .3) Your comment is not accurate about beating type 2 diabetes. If your willing top do the work you can greatly improve your numbers but in most cases not to the point of beating the disease. I wish it was that easy! But thanks for responding it is nice to talk with you.
