For me it is about depression. In the first sentence she says it is NOT death. She feels dead but stands up. This is very obviously depression where standing up is already very tiring. Also, waking up at noon is a sign of depression. Also I get the feeling all her senses feel and taste like death. She is gone, shaven to a frame. She feels it is always midnight, always dark. Even breathing is difficult.
Ticked reminds of the clock that needs to be wound up by the key. She needs the key but does not have it. It is all cold, space staring at her. Ground beating, her looming death.
Believe me, this describes depression very eloquently.
Nothing to do with an after live, except maybe longing for death.

Hi, glad you found the video useful. I've been making these videos for the OCR AS spec. This year is the last time that Dickinson is examined for OCR, as the new linear A Level doesn't include Dickinson. Therefore, I probably won't be making any more Dickinson videos, but will do some for the new texts.

Thank you! Are you planning to write notes on any more of her poems??
