Anyone have any idea who the astronauts are? Must have been hired based on skateboarding skills because that's the hardest thing they had to do, and the one guy has his mask up twice but I cant figure it out
30 years ago, I was seduced by my beautiful castmate into taking her aerobics class. That gorgeous nerd used this song as part of her regular playlist, and I can't hear it now without wanting to "feel the burn!"
This was filmed at Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles, California. It's in the Encino/Van Nuys area. I recently went on a fan pilgrimage there and took some pictures with my accordion. It's in the middle of a swampy area that you have to access through a nature trail. Also happens to be surrounded on two sides by freeways. Fascinating location!

you're actually right on the money! Its called the Mojo Chessmaster. John made the original (which was cardboard) but the one in this video was made by a man named Chris Cush. You can read more about it: tmbw.net/wiki/Mojo_Chessmaster
Back in the day, I remember Flansy referring to his Mojo Chessmaster (originally a Fender Tele, if I remember rightly) as a "bastard son of a Bo Diddley" guitar.
@@annaburgooo It is really obvious from the lyrics IMO. The astronauts and planet stuff in the video makes even more so. The film is worth watching if you haven't... It is basically literature at this point... sort of required to really get a lot of common cultural references.

Such a beautiful shot too, composition-wise.

I never expected a song about worshipping a granite monolith that vaporizes people with its magical eye beams to be this much fun, but I love it

@@bonzodimduly And now you're awsome for covering it!
Update: it got worse.
One of TMBGs best
[Verse 1]
The statue got me high
The statue got me high
The monument of granite
Sent a beam into my eye
The statue made me die
The statue made me die
It took my hand it killed me
And it turned me to the sky
[Chorus]
The stone it called to me
(and now I see the things the stone has shown to me)
A rock that spoke a word
(an animated mineral it can be heard)
And though I once preferred a human being's company
They pale before the monolith that towers over me
[Verse 2]
The statue got me high
The statue got me high
The truth is where the sculptor's chisel
Chipped away the lie
The statue made me fry
The statue made me fry
My coat contained a furnace
Where there used to be a guy
[Chorus 2]
The stone it called to me
(and now I see the things the stone has shown to me)
A rock that spoke a word
(an animated mineral it can be heard)
And as the screaming fire engine siren filled the air
The evidence had vanished from my charred and smoking chair
[Bridge 1 2x]
And what they found
Was just a statue standing
Where the statue got me high
[Chorus 3]
And now it is your turn
(your turn to hear the stone and then your turn to burn)
The stone it calls to you
(you can't refuse to do the things it tells you to)
And as the screaming fire engine siren fills the air
The evidence will vanish from your charred and smoking chair
[Bridge 2]
And what they found
Was just a statue standing
Where the statue got me high
And what they'll find
Is just a statue standing
Where the statue got you
High
