You could rig up a magnetic brake or fluid brake so you can use a smaller counterweight which doesn’t pull you up as much. Maybe with a Wild Country Revo belay device as backup in case the self made brake fails.

Good for safety but from what I understand it pulls you up so it’s easier to climb?

Yes, same as a standard auto belay. I’m sure I could rig an additional device to create less tension on the accents
