Sacred Flame is a trip. It's like playing Slay the Spire with extra elites: the early game is tough as nails, but once you get a foothold with all the extra relics, you're unstoppable late game.
I feel like this game may be making tyler realise just how goated of a tower defence game bloons is, if only the bloons odyssey mode was a functioning roguelike instead of the boring gamemode it is.
I found putting some long range flamethrower towers on "farthest" targeting can often maximize for what you were talking about The targeting adds some much-needed depth, but as you've said it's still pretty easy overall!
Tlamethrowers are best at the "end of hallways" where they just cover constant an area and the monster conga line. If they swing all the time to face the lead monster, the effective used area is low
On more tower upgrades: One benefit of a simple upgrade system is that when you get the '5 towers roll into a different tower of the same size' relic, you can more easily evaluate which upgrade is best for all the options you might roll into
youre right about uptime, but the flamethrower was not the best example for it since increased range also increased the area of effect, so it could hit far targets and near targets in one shot
I ended up getting this game, enjoyed it quite a bit! Ran out of things I wanted to do, but hopefully when they add stuff there will be more difficult and interesting content! Some ways of playing into synergies felt a bit weird and cheesey, like selling off all of your towers right as you finish a stage to benefit from both extra embers and bringing cash with you to the next stage. Between that and the randomized price relic, strategies sometimes felt less intuitive or satisfying
You can also sell towers after finishing the map, by pressing "view map" and using the G hotkey to sell when you click a tower 🫱🏻🫲🏼 Reccomens trying the Builder with sacred flame if you want a harder challenge as well, gets interesting with the big pieces
@Rubbly If you want a tower defense which is really difficult and has interesting mechanics play World tower defense (its free too) but slightly unfriendly to begginers
I can’t wait until the next episode where you create an even greater challenge for yourself by combining a new character with a new flame on the hardest available map.
24:40 missing btd6? heard they doing a big update soon adding in a rouge like mode or something crazy like that so maybe a brief return when that comes out?
I love this game, I have already gotten dozens of hours on it. I find that making mazes is the bulk of fun and many of the maps utilize their default obstacles to create massive complex mazes. You can also hold ctrl to draw paths for planning.
I played this game a little and remembered how you were manually setting towers to low hp/high hp. Right above the towers there’s a default priority setting that you can click on and change all of the towers of the same type and the little sword next to it shows tower dps so you can actually what tower is doing the best
Royal Rune is actually really strong because it increases your starting hand size by 1 in addition to guaranteeing that you start with that specific block. I never pass on royal rune.
I agree more upgrades would be dope. Also a buff to the single smiley tile would be nice, since it's clearly an intelligent life form that's just happy to help anyone with anything.
If you are able to place blocks down during a wave, there's a strat that i used in a flash tower defense game where I'd make 2 paths that'd start at the same point but on the other side of the map, so when the mobs got to a certain point in the maze, you'd just delete the wall blocking the other path, and then block the current path they were on, forcing them to double back through the maze and into the 2nd one, but I don't really know this game that well or if its even a viable/possible strategy
it could be just me, but reusing the same Thumbnail is redusing the views, i was confused why i was shown the video again... it was the 3rd time ... now i know it's actually the same thumbnail just 3 times
The sacred fire is kind of a buff since when you complete a level you gain a relic allowing you to create more synergies and you can get around the corrupted tiles since they move after every round.
Is there some kind of enemy with flat damage reduction or something? Like, there must be some mechanic that promotes high damage over attack speed. Easiest example being the basic tower. 2 upgrades, both got identical dps increase and cost, but the attack speed one randomly gets more range. Unless the balancing was just haphazard and sloppy there must be something I don't see here.
Man the dotted outline on the screen in the building phase underneath the video timeline kept making me think there were like a hundred chapters in this video. Thought the editors were getting extra sweaty.
If it is possible i think flame throwers should attack the last target so they won't turn every time and miss the aeo oppurtunity to hit the mobs behind. Ofc mobs at the behind will come to the flame path eventually but i think with that way they are making a little bit of less dps
haven't finished the vid yet so i don't know if you discovered it yet, but if you place a block at the edge of ""enemy land" before battle mode (then start battle mode) or even just during battle mode your area expands :)
I tend to build my mazes close to the fire, so I really enjoy using the Demon flame. It would probably be instant death if I ever took damage, but hey, risk and reward.
Basic tower spam is genuinely broken in this game. They're just so cheap and the blue upgrade makes them decent towers. Also, the big dice towers are like the basic blue towers on crack. The higher number they roll, the more crack they're on.
Try Heroic Mode, Bone Desert, with the Aggressive Constructive Hero (starts with 2x2 and Mega Tiles). There are maps where you can never place the mega tiles, and you can get boned (no pun intended) pretty hard early on.
Though you can't see your relics in the shop, I'm pretty sure you can back out to check, then go back into the shop! I never tested after purchasing something, but I backed out by accident once, thought I skipped the shop but it let me right back in! Still would be nice QoL to show it there, or in the backpack tab
I haven't even finished heroic forest and there's still a difficulty level more this game is only going to get better and better especially since I think on the games discord they said the third map is in the final stages of finishing
tyler your explanation of the flamethrower range and the moving enemies reminded me a lot of how i think of wings and moving fast creating lift. parachutes(big) would be similar to a huge range tower fighting a limited amount of enemies, and the flamethrower would be similar to a wing(small) flying through a lot of air, but both of them provide similar amounts of damage (lift). ik it's not actually scientific at all and it's a gross simplistic idea but it did remind me.
Tyler can you play the other classes too? You have 4 vid and 3 of them have been using the basic Novice hero. I want to see how you tackle the other heroes too.
If you want the HARDEST challenge use Chunk with Sacred/Demon flame on desert heroic mode. Sometimes you just stuck with like six mega pieces and have nowhere to spend them.
Say are you going to try World Of Goo 2? I'd say it's worth a shot, really good level design even if it is (mostly) simple, but theres definitely some hard levels in the game. Pretty much everythings been improved upon as well, really great game overall!
I bought this game because of these videos. Its a great game id recommend. But as of now its limited. The game isnt fully out. Once its fully out itll be better
him calling the meta upgrades monkey knowledge shows that he is still a btd6 channel at heart
He also said he wanted more upgrades for each tower and said “cross paths” as well

tyler return to monke
"How much harder can we get, it's Heroic mode. Bone desert, with a twist." Is a sequence of words that has me in a chokehold.
Kinky, i see.
The good straight line damage with piercing is supposed to be targeting last, cmon you're forgetting your years of bloons training
Or farthest, if that's a thing
The beginning image goes so hard
I agree
I really deserved a few more seconds of screentime
Puzzhub is really elite editing

I Reccomend trying it with the builder character as well 😬 propper challenge filling your hand with cards you can't use
@@spindetwess chunk the builder makes the early game easy since fireball and sniper towers are so busted

The 'Grease' reference at 9:16 got me laughing too hard! Love the editing!
"Send more dudes!"
"You mean noodes?"
"DUUDES, we need more men!"
I recommend getting the monkey knowledge that makes your flame deal damage, I can’t count the times it has saved not taking damage.
I think its funny seeing tyler try to justify getting range upgrades after shitting on them so much in the first episode
I might actually buy this game considering how much fun Tyler is having with it.
I highly recommend it. It’s quite fun.
$15 is a great price for this. One of the better TDs I’ve played in a while
Good game but lacks tower variety
Most towers are just X damage X fire rate X element
Same here! Unfortunately, I don't have steam. Or a PC. But when I get those things, I'll try it!
try mindustry
I feel like this game may be making tyler realise just how goated of a tower defence game bloons is, if only the bloons odyssey mode was a functioning roguelike instead of the boring gamemode it is.
Special thanks for adding these shiny sparks to draw my attention to the thing you are talking about

I just love this fieldrunners-like design of the basic towers. Takes me back a decade.
23:54 when the BTD brain takes over and crosses a wire. I don't think this game has monkey knowledge
he also says it at 9:02
it does have an 'equivalent'
All permanent progression is just different variations of monkey knowledge
9:01 Monkey Knowledge
caught this too made me chuckle
I can't believe so many people noticed this
23:50 too, he’s still a bloons player at heart
I am absolutely stoked for this game to get updated. Its potential is massive and its quickly become my favourite tower defense game
On more tower upgrades: One benefit of a simple upgrade system is that when you get the '5 towers roll into a different tower of the same size' relic, you can more easily evaluate which upgrade is best for all the options you might roll into
I enjoy these TD videos. Takes me back to when I was so into btd6
GREAT set of series right now, every upload is a banger. Loving the drive to find the most difficult challenges too, you're built to solve them all!
A jumpscare of an intro, nice work editors.

“Tyler learns to importance of range in tower defence games” - The series
Is there some kind of enemy with flat damage reduction or something?

Targeting slowing towers to most progress will slow the front guys, let the next guys catch up, and eventually hit more at once.
Nvm he figured it out
gotta love more emberward content

I like how Tyler has not once ever actually proved his point about range. Infact he does the opposite every video.
The big dice tower is actually pretty solid don't underestimate it.
this is now a snowball channel

24:10 there should be a meta-progression that allows you to pick the second path as well for double it's normal cost (for balance)
