    This makes me happy that I'm not the only person who makes totally random and painstaking projects.

    omg! No wonder! I got onto your site via the small car conversion and commented on how accurate your woodworking was. No wonder! when I saw this, I was floored. You are a master carpenter of a level very few people attain even in their old age!

    Great job, great project. May I offer a gentle suggestion? You have a well designed push-stick, that will allow enough control to work it through with your right hand. The left hand can push sideways (like a human featherboard), but only until it nears the leading edge of the sawblade. After that, you are pushing INTO the blade, not the fence. Wood being wood, mother nature sometimes offers her bounties with unusual stresses, moisture contents, grain patterns etc. and an unsuspecting piece may react differently than expected once the binding fibres are cut away. Add to that, a blind cut where you are 99.9% sure where the blade will emerge. a dull blade that needs a bit of umph, repetition, and the fact that our 2 eyes tend to steer in only one direction. Once the big piece becomes two, they can be tricky to keep track of. Sorry, I don't mean to but in, but.....

    Nice vid and some cool machines you have there. I'm just starting out with woodworking myself. Was that really safe practice with your table saw? Your thumbs seemed pretty close to where the blade would be going through the wood at times.

    Question: around the one minute mark 1:00 what is the t-shirt arm hole function on the surface planer ... (to reduce the throw of the debris, or ...) ??

    Such an amazing piece of work. And even crazier that it took only five minutes! What's your secret?

    came across your site while researching a Honda Element... nice set up with the bed and table.
    But, please, wear proper respiratory protection while working with dust particles(N95), especially if you don't have a negative ventilation system. When I did medical school, it was a common thing for my area to see wood workers or people who worked with metal to get Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) from inhaling wood or metal dust... And unfortunately, ILD is irreversible.

      I’m better about it these days, but the reminder is good. Thanks for looking out!

      @@AmyMakesStuff great. In this chrisfix video he shows how he uses a negative pressure and a stronger mask, than a N95, when he's working on metal. Alternatively, I saw some machinist create a negative pressure environment in their shop to prevent ILD.

    Aren't rolling pins cylindrical? (no taper) so you can flatten things equally? With a convex rolling pin how do you ever get consistent thickness?

    • @KarlBunker
      @KarlBunker 2 роки тому +1

      This style of rolling pin is called a tapered French rolling pin. A lot of them have less taper than this one, but this amount of taper isn't unheard of. As for how you flatten dough evenly with it, I've never used one and I don't know. I guess the French have secret skills.

    Comon, Amy... Beautiful work, but you know you spent at LEAST 10 minutes making that. And as someone mentioned, you really need to do something about that table saw blade.

    • @AmyMakesStuff
      @AmyMakesStuff  3 роки тому +1

      Haha! It’s true about the blade. But I also replaced the whole table saw earlier last year 😬

    Rolling pins need to be even along their length. It won’t work as a rolling pin!

    • @jameshill9325
      @jameshill9325 4 роки тому

      Rolling pins can have tapered ends along as they have a flat centre section these are called french rolling pins
      Although I agree it's does need a more consistent centre

    Thumbs down just for the 5 minutes or less. It's kind of misleading. And though it looks interesting I don't want to watch the video now. Oh well next page

    • @JDeWittDIY
      @JDeWittDIY 3 роки тому

      She meant the video was less than 5 minutes. In fact, if you stop and think about what it would entail to make a rolling pin, that's the only logical interpretation. Though I do concede that the title sounds ambiguous and misleading.
