Sonor does it right.always missed having built in tone controls on modern day drums. This is a beautiful concept that Sonor has invented. I will own one of these, for sure.

I was lucky enough to be able to play both versions of this snare, and I'm with Steve on this one. Brass shell has the edge on the birch - though both are fantastic! But playing that brass shell...it was just such a beautiful drum - sound and looks!

I agree. I typically prefer a wood drum over brass, mostly because of the fundamental differences in the sound. Wood usually has a bit more warmth and character. But, brass can have nice warmth and character as well, and in this case, the internal tone controls let you dial that in perfectly. My favorite ‘set up’ for the Benny brass is a) wide open for big band or rock, and b) the hard felt for combo jazz. I love the fleece muffler as well and sometimes use both together. As in the demo video, using both together does not kill the sound or sensitivity, which is not what you’d normally expect. Typically two mufflers would make a drum very one-dimensional, meaning it would be great for a dry back beat but would lose all the articulation. That is NOT the case with the brass Benny Greb. Great drum.

I really enjoyed watching and listening as you played this snare with your Mellow-Yellow kit. Nice pairing Steve!

Birch?? I thought it is beechwood! Just found out the answer to my comment. The material is beech, the finish, is Scandinavian birch veneer.

    I wish So or offered
Those tone controls for sale separately, but I suppose I could just install two Canopus ones and put lambs wool on one of them.

It’s amazing how bronze and brass, sound very similar on some brands.

Great video, but I thought that the wood shell was beech, not Scandinavian birch.

The shell is beech, but it’s a Scandinavian birch finish :)

The benny greb 2.0 is made of beech shell. The 1.0 is made with Scandinavian birch

Inside of shell is beech on both versions. The outside finish is called Scandinavian birch.
