Great video, I admire people who have the means and ability to pull something like this off. If only sets like this were made today, over some of the high price crowd funding stuff from big companies, that would be amazing fun sets with a feel of vintage, but expand the original lines relatively cheaply.

I had the original cardboard playset. Fun in its own way. My GI Joe team stopped Cobra from launching that missile almost every week. Even when I played Doctor Who with my figures, Cobra failed in their launch attempts.
Your custom looks great. Fantastic job. I am envious of this community's ability to work with paint and glue. I work with printed tab and slot assembly cardstock paper models because I can print it out in color and not get glue or paint a over me. (Like I always do)

I really enjoyed this video. The discussion of your thought processes as you worked through the build were really excellent. I've been stacking up stuff to customize into JOE vehicles and playsets for a while, but I wouldn't have thought to look for this set. So many of the cheap items have great sculpts, but use such cheap, shampoo-bottle plastic that I shy away from them. You've convinced me to order this playset and add yet another project to my already too-long to-do list.

i was 10 in 82 when the G.I. Joe 3 3/4" toy line came out, personally i always loved those late 70s/early 80s cardboard playsets. but i literally never even knew this set existed until the early 2000s when i got my first computer, there were A LOT of Sears and others exclusives i had no idea existed when i was a kid. i remember my friend in the early 80s had the famous Blue Snaggletooth and i use to marvel at it because it was the only one i had ever seen and he had no memory of where it had come from, it was like the mid 90s after i had become a collector that i learned about it and solved that old mystery.

Yeah. 👍🏼 it’s just not a world-building scale. So all the stuff from other playsets that just plugs right in with this wouldn’t apply. But would be cool to see 1:12 people get something.

Alright I must admit when I first saw that Wal Mart playset at the beginning of this video I did not like it at all. I thought to myself "no way would I have chosen that one". That ssaid, I hung in there to watch the full video. Once the primer was on & I saw how the missile would work I started to change my thoughts a little. Seeing it finished I have to admit that I too would like to do one. You did great.

I use the same craft/dollar store paint when I'm painting terrain. I just add a little water or paint thinner and it goes on much smoother. Any that set looks fantastic.
Have you thought about doing a light black or brown wash followed by a white or grey dray wash to help bring out the details while add some more grung to the piece? Its what I do. Its simple and quick and I'm very happy with the results. Especialy since its great for hiding tiny f**k ups my old hands just arent up to anymore. A lot of people do a wash last but I like to do a second dry brush last to cover up any staining from the wash on the high areas. I get a little too heavy doing washes sometimes. 😂😂
I love your use of magnets btw. I got to try that in the future. I use toyhax as well.

I use Army painter's primer on everything. I've tried the automotive primers and they work fine for course terrain if you got stuff with fine detail its my goto. I like tamiya too but its too expensive and its questionable if its better then army IMO. I do use Tamiya paints though as they make awesome stuff you just cant get anywhere else like clear gel color paints I use for see through items like gelatinous cub monsters and elementals (like fire or ice see see through models) that I paint for D and D. They also make awesome shades and washers you can water down a little bit to get even more use out of. I also like their paint pots as unlike gamers workshop pot the keep a good seal. Just make sure to keep those lid threads clean or you'll go back to a paint a year later and its like its welded shut. I've had to use vice grips to get the lids off. This is where drip bottles like Vallejo or Raper are fantastic.

Hasbro getting out performed by a $20 Wal-Mart branded play set is pathetic(double irony as it looks to be superior in plastic quality as well as fit and finish😂😂😂)!
Did you ever get the same line's military play set with the flip out launch platform?
