    Thank you for some valuable tips. I am doing my 1st Art and Crafts Market this Sunday. One error I have made is using a mixed bunch of recycled frames. I see now that it creates a lack of cohesion. I will definitely aim for more uniformity in size and presentation from here on.

    • @eclecticpapercraftart
      @eclecticpapercraftart Рік тому +1

      You could paint them all in black to create cohesion.

      @Denise Silva there are some really lovely frames so I won't go that route. I did find a set of 5 square IKEA frames that fitted my 25cmx25cm canvas boards, so I have the start of some unification.

    Better to make a sale than not to make a sale. However if you put your prices too low people will not value your work isn't it Clive?

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  Рік тому +7

      Simply put the value on our work is for us if people don’t want to buy then they are just playing with us I always add more to take away to get what I want to sell for there is no such thing as a discount it’s always in the sellers Favour I’ve sold for years and always got the price I want 👍

    Some very useful tips for beginners like myself. One question though, will these mounting boards warp and if so, how to counter it.

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  Рік тому +5

      They don’t warp if you seal them correctly you don’t need to use acrylic too wet in any case I’ll make a video on this 👍

    That’s a really useful! Thanks Clive.I’ve been looking at the water based oils as turps and oils gives me such a shocker of a headache. Any advive would be gratefully appreciated!

    • @triggerfish999
      @triggerfish999 Рік тому

      Have you tried 'odourless' mineral spirits like Sansodor? Water based oils aren’t that great. They are stickier than regular oils and you can’t wipe off and rework an underpainting once the water has dried …it leaves a sticky mess. I now just use my water based oils as regular oils….but for ease of use Clive is absolutely right. Acrylics are the thing. Or do the underpainting in acrylics then finish off with oil.

      I love them! Don't make the mistake of thinking water is your medium. But the clean-up is nothing but easy and quick.

    Today many people are noticing that their acrylic paintings are rubbing off during shipping, or storing. other notice the paint is Chipping off , because Acrylic has changed their formula. I use Flat board canvas. and use Rust-Oleum flat white Primer, sand, and add again as I turn the board, sand one last time. Dust off, then lay down a acrylic background color. I do not like the caves lines showing through my work, (just me) and I do not like working on white. After I do much of may painting in acrylic, I do use a clear coat covering, and then paint some areas in oil to give the painting more Richer quality.. Other wise it sometimes looks a bit flat. I do like Andrew Wyeth paintings though

    I'm finding that my mini paintings do very well in craft fairs. I don't bother bringing my larger paintings anymore, people aren't usually willing to spend that much at a craft fair. But the mini stuff is aways a hit.

    Craft show this weekend. Most of mine are 8X10 and 1 or 2 5X7. It's a size I'm comfortable with. The hard part is display

    Clive, how many paintings should I take to an indoor craft fair that expects 10,000 in a day? I want to offer 8 x 10, 11 x 14’s and some prints I think.

    Tip #1, don't charge so much that no one can afford it XD
    I live in KC, MO, and I go to that art fair every year. I swear to God that I see exactly the same works for sale every year. Why? Because they ask for more than an arm and a leg. They want a kidney too!

    Nobody makes money at craft fairs or shows I've tried for years the only people who make money are the organisers . They charge huge amounts to hire a stall. Stay away you'll always be out of pocket.
