Astrophotography While Battling Cancer

  • This is a summery of my current state as I battle cancer. I will win this fight and I think it will make me a better person. It in some ways already has. I have lost an immense amount of weight. Total of 50lbs since last year, and it is not something I was trying to do either as I had little to no fat to loose in the first place.
If you are wondering what type of cancer it is it is upper GI. The fluid they took from me had cancerous cells in it and there is also a spot on my Colin as well as some caking on the inside of my abdomen.
Overall I feel really week. This morning, as I write this, I put my scopes away and was put out of breath by that. Something that has not ever happened in the past. I can still do 25 pushups but then again I am pushing up 50 less pounds.
The first chemo was ruff. I lost 6lbs in just three days because I could not eat at all. I have never in my life experienced nausea, but since this chemo I have experienced a lot of it, both during the the treatment and also the following 8 days afterwards. My Chemo is a blend called FOLFOX If your are curious.

Thank you Nico. It was great meeting you at NEAF. I wish I had had the energy to interview you there. Looks like the reason I was so exhausted there was this cancer. I really look forward to the future though. Keep up the great work on your channel. I learned how to stretch stuff finally in Siril thanks to you.

You can do this. In 2005 I was diagnosed with a GI bleed coming from a tumor in my colon which had spread to my lymph nodes. I am still kicking today with no signs of the cancer. Never give up. Wishing you the best for you and your family.

I discovered your channel earlier this year after falling off a mountain and breaking both of my arms. I decided to finally get into backyard astrophotography after years of procrastinating for time/financial reasons. What I like about your channel is that it is sensitive to the learning needs of the beginner and gave me the confidence needed to take the plunge and begin my journey. Thank you!
Incidentally I'm also an Oncology Research Nurse. Currently I work in Scottsdale, AZ, but I started my career at the Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh. If FOLFOX ever runs out of gas or the side effects get to be too much you may want to check out the doctors and treatments they have available there. Anyway, I just wanted to say again that I appreciate everything you do, and sincerely hope to be enjoying your videos for a long time to come!

Sorry to hear this. I am a stage 4 survivor. You can get through this, keep up the positive attitude and your support network will be immensely helpful in lifting you up on the days you're down. As for appetite, I'm not sure which state you're in, but herbal extracts, gummies, vape helped me get hungry enough to eat and keep the nausea at bay. Good luck, we're all pulling for you!

I came to your channel looking for reviews on a OSC dual sensor. I found that then I found this video. I'm dealing with my own life changing issues and at this time lying in a bed with Dr's helping me fight off an infection. We are winning.. Whilst family and friends will always be first and foremost in our lives we must still keep and nurture our own personal goals. Your attitude is right, your positivity is inspiring and your inner strength admirable. I've had the idea for imaging for a number of years lying here for the last few days made me realise I need to make a start. You've helped convince me of this today. So even though we don't know each other I've never seen your channel before, your right even in this moment something positive and good has come about from your sharing and openness which can only make our lives however long or short more fulfilling.

Ho! Sorry to hear this. You are courageous and have a family that will help you in the future weeks as you battle this monster. We, amateur astronomers, look at the heavens in search of it's beauties and mysteries, catching only a small glimp of it. We know that the explosion of light is not an end but the beginning of something new! The darkness that is invading your world will not prevail! I truly wish you the best of luck and please, take one day at a time, and if it is too much, take one minute at a time. And if you can, keep in touch on this channel as we can send you some energy through our words! I send you light! ☀

I had a very aggressive cancer also 4th stage. After 3 chemos it was almost out. It had spread all over my lymph system but I took a lot of ayurvedic medicine for the liver so that helped. The chemo had lots of side effects but I had the mindset of total focus & trying to decode why the cells went rogue. I too lost 20kilos of weight. Long story short the cancer was out within 3 months from taking the chemo. I refused to take any additional chemo as it damages the body more than it protects. Instead I saved the money and bought my dream camera. This happened when I was 58 & I am 62 now with more zest for life than ever.. I wish you all the best & am sure you will come out of it better than before

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It sounds like mine though I am a bit younger. I cannot wait to beat this and in two treatment I seam to be showing signs of remission but will have to wait a at least two more months to really know. Keep taking pictures and using that dream camera!

@@TheNarrowbandChannel You will feel it - you will eat and sleep better. The key is to stay focused - take good rest. For me the first healing symptoms was pain came down & could eat without feeling I was burning & could sleep more - I threw out the painkillers and anti acid subsequently. I kept my liver levels up with the ayurvedic medicine . I wish you again the very best & may you recover very soon & all the best for the new life on its way.

Your enthusiasm and positive outlook always come through in your camera and astrophotography posts, and I believe ultimately all that comes from a good place. I was saddened to discover this when you first posted the video. I've had family and close friends that have dealt with such battles (everyone has, I suppose)... Keep that great attitude, for I think that is what makes the biggest difference. There's nothing easy about it, of course. I am not sure I would have such a positive outlook, even though I know it does make a huge difference in the end. You set an excellent example and I hope that even when it's at its worst, you can continue to keep your chin up. Just know that everyone appreciates the knowledge and opinions you share here in such no-nonsense fashion, for I've no doubt it's helped many along the way. Best wishes and keep us posted occasionally as you find the time and energy. Thanks, from North Dakota and eastern Montana.

    So sorry.
I have 2 cancers that I was informed of last year.So I am saddened by your news. My interest in Astrophotography has been latent since 1983 until I decided to get into something that I might be able to do to keep my mind off a bone marrow transplant hopefully early spring. I have prostate cancer and a blood cancer called Primary myelo Fibrosis. Both were caught early.
If it helps the U of R Wilmot Cancer institute at Strong memorial in Rochester N.Y. seems like a very good place my Dr in Syracuse recommended. My bone marrow T cell transplant will be done there. They found 2 acceptable donors for me. Oct 19th hopefully will be the date that they set a date for my procedure. I tailored my lightweight equipment around my recovery weakness ability when my procedure happens.
In the meantime, I hope to get first light with my equipment before Haven and Black Forest star parties this fall to accumulate data to use when I am recovering homebound for most of next year.
If you can think of a way that I can help let me know.

    • @TheNarrowbandChannel
      @TheNarrowbandChannel  Рік тому +1

You should always try to practice with equipment before a star party. This last year I took to much but I was also sick to with this cancer though I did not know it. I hope your transplant goes well. My cousin had that done and it saved his life.

I then will hook up my filter drawer, rotator ,field flattener and 533mc camera. If I can figure out the back focus I will practice with my asi air plus. I was able to play with the AM5 a bit for visual. The rest will be a first for me.
