  • Recurve men's semifinal match between Lee Seungyun of Korea and Brady Ellison of USA at the 2019 Olympic Test Event in Tokyo, Japan. Recurve archers shoot at a target 70 metres away, 122cm in diameter and the central 10-ring measures just 12.2 centimetres in diameter (about the size of a DVD).

    Brady not shooting that one he let down is one of the most impressive things in archery I've ever seen. To have that mental control to not shoot because you know you weren't ready for the clicker to go off and to know you don't have time to reset the clicker is insane.

    Why is no one praising the Korean?

    Just to give everyone perspective, if you put one of these archers at the goal line of an American football field, the DVD-sized bullseye would be 70 yards away on the opponent 30 yard line.
    Imagine being on the goal line and shooting an arrow at a tiny DVD target on the opponent 30 yard line. Field goal kickers miss a HUGE upright goal post from 30-40-50 yards out, let alone a DVD from 70 yards out.
    They are insanely accurate.

      I love watching this!! I grew up shooting recurve but I can't imagine HITTING the target at that range...
      The WHOLE TARGET let alone the ,as you aptly put it, DVD sized bullseye.... AWESOME stuff!!

      They are indeed! (Tho, to nitpick a bit, 70m would translate to 76.55 yds).

    With how tilted Brady gets by his opponents results, I'm surprised he doesn't wear earbuds to block out the noise, so he can just focus on his own game.

    Can you not let down in Olympic recurve?

      You can - if there is enough time. With only 20s for one arrow this is quite tough...

    don't you have to close one eye to target the target (Noob here!)

    • @csuvikg
      @csuvikg 2 роки тому

      Depends, some can learn to target with the dominant eye with both eyes open, for others closing the non-dominant eye is the way to go.

    Ellison needs to ease up on the Budweiser and bags of Doritos. And pick up a Gillette every few days. Doesn’t represent my country well on the international stage.
